Making the next a generation?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:06 pm

This has been bugging me for a while
In skyrim we can get married and I couldn't help but think of fable and how each game your playing as the next generation from the original hero. I think for the next elder scrolls we should be the dragonborns child, grand child or somthing around those lines. This would allow tons of new things
1.Shouts would become a permanate type of skill but unlike in skyrim where we just learn it by killing dragons we half to find scrolls of it and level it up.
2.We could do a wierd transfer system where what ever are highest skill was in skyrim we get a plus 5
(More to come)

I never said it was did I
Whats wrong with starting a new game with a secound generation?
it could open huge doors for elder scrolls in the long run

Why not just role-play that for yourself, instead of wishing it on everybody? :)

Because it destroys the premise of the game series. It is be whoever you want to be. NOT the son of the Dragonborn unless YOU decide YOUR hero is, and really you do not need to be the son of the Dragonborn to even be one. You are not related to Tiber Septim in the game but he also was a Dragonborn. It is not a hereditary thing. In fact if you did have a child they would have just as much of a chance of being a Dragonborn as anyone else. The problem here is you seem to not have grasped how this series' Lore operates.

And what doors would this open at all? There are many people who roleplay one character or another and automatically making even the pretext of a back-story for one of them would piss them off and is NOT what this game series is about.

As stated above that's just not how it works, dragon born are chosen by akotosh not heredity

That would be a bad idea imo. I want a fresh experience with every installment, I don't need anyone to tell me who do I get to roleplay.

'let's change something to make it like a completely different game! It doesnt fit in with the Elder Scrolls lore, but who cares?!'
And as for having your TESVI character the child of your Skyrim character ... No. I'd much rather have OPTIONS, and a NEW storyline.

@ catfish mirelurk
You can always roleplay that descendant yourself, you don't actually need the game to point you in that direction to do it and enjoy it.
I honestly hope the shouts stay specific to TES V, mechanics wise they are just spells after all and it would be better if they just improve the magic system by bringing back old spells and creating new ones and new effects.
As concerning the transfer system, what can I say... I am in favor of having the option to pick start bonuses for skills besides the racials, heck I am a fan of penalties attached to our initial choices too... but I don't think we need the descendant story for that, we just need a powerful and well thought character stat system.

It would close more doors than it'd open.

My Dragonborn is not going to have children. How can I possibly play as her descendant?
Not to mention that some people don't start the MQ and their characters never realize they're Dragonborn.

Also, it's possible that the next game will be taking place in very near future - events of the first four games happened in the span of 40 years, hardly enough time for more than one generation. 6 years between Arena and Daggerfall, 5 years between Morrowind and Oblivion! Skyrim breaks the pattern, but it doesn't mean TES VI won't follow it either.

The whole point of TES games is that your character can be anybody. It's all up to your imagination - if you want to roleplay as a descendant of one of your previous characters, nobody stops you. In fact, I've seen people who consistently play as one character through all the games (it's possible if you're an elf, or just take the Nerevarine's immortality into account).

Also, how would you explain different race of your new character? Sure, Racial Phylogeny and all that stuff, but then if you want to create, say, an Altmer, it really doesn't fit if your father was an elf-hating Nord. Not at all.

I just don't see any advantages of implemeting something like this into TES.
