male or female ?

I think it would be better if characters gained more animations and more elaborate fighting styles as they progressed skill-wise. Oblivion touched on this lightly, and it was a good step- but they should take it waaay up.

meh I′m not much for that, one of the reasons I like Oblivion is because the combat was down to earth and to the point, just like melee combat was in real life history, and not the over elaborate swish swosh you see everywhere else.

as everything ive read and since everything points to the male hero which i have no issue playing as, just wondering can you play as female aswell ? and if playing as either male or female will they have different fighting styles and interactions with NPCs ?

I'm female but I think in this game, I'm going to play as male. Seems more realistic to me.

I hate to see thin catwalk models with ridiculously big briasts wearing almost no armor but who wield two-handed swords and kick everybody's ass.

and frankly I find it sixist, giving females elaborate, none functional, trying-to-show-of-there-body styles

I for one hope female fight as down to earth and dirty as the males do.

Try the DA2 demo combat may be the same, but every character has the inflated body of a cartoon pormstar.
Even the old witch of the wilds, a 20 year old toned body on a character last seen as old and frail in mortal form ggaahh.

On topic: More than likely almost certainly you'll be able to play as both sixes and hopefully all races as well.
As except for rushed deadlines and not wanting to take up more memory there is little reason to PO the TeS fans as much as other companies have.

For one face creation is unique, every npc is usually crafted in looks.
If they don't just make generic characters and have spent time setting realistic daily routines, names and jobs.
Then it would be a huge waste of assets to not allow creation of any base NPC the player wishes.

I agree, thats somthing i never liked about a lot of games. It's completely unrealistic when it comes to girls, they always have massive chests, perfect bodies, and flawless faces. Girl players are obviously a very small minority when it comes to most games, so it makes sense to play to the crowd and make girls more appealing for guys- but come on...it's madness...not all women have 44dd briasts.

Don't you guys get me wrong - I love TES series and I eagerly wait for the release of Skyrim. But as a woman, It is so friggin' ridiculous in my view always to see THIN but BUSTY women in almost every video game! All those young gamers around 18 years or so receive the impression that also in the real world every thin woman must have big briasts! Lol...I am a sports gal, not thin but athletic and I have almost NO briast! Haha.

So to make a computer game attractive for the majority of player - meaning non-worldly-wise guys - every women must have briast implants included when they are set up to be in the gaming world. Not to forget the ability to kick a dragon's ass with a two-handed sword, regardless of the fact they even haven't the muscle or strength to wield it...

Of course you'll be able to choose to play as either a male or a female. I'd be dumbfounded if they got rid of that choice. That would be like taking away the Argonians as a race because Skyrim is too cold. It makes no sense for that to happen.

Having my a#s handed to me multiple times by Nord female NPCs it would be ....gamebreaking...if the PC could not be a sister of Skyrim. For me though, playing as a female.....seems just wrong, as wrong as playing an evil character. I guess I am too old and set in my ways to try something completly different.

It does seem at times that Oblivion is uncensored porm for teen boys especially when you look at downloads for mods. Which are the most popular?

Anyway, Oblivion has a few mods for making realistic characters but was always limited because all characters took on the same body. An all or nothing deal. However, I have just seen a mod released that changes body shapes of NPCs. Don't remember the vane but the autor is name vader..something. My appologies to him if he sees this.

I really liked how fallout new vegas handled the genders. For example, you felt like an object as a women hanging around caesar's camp "This is the arena, not the kitchen Women" (lmfao) but the reaction was different as a man. I really liked the feeling that gender matters, it allowed for more re playability, and immersion. Skyrim is probably going to be a "male world" where Women are resigned to support roles, so seeing a Woman save everyone's ass should cause a bit of a stir with the older folks in power, and may not be accepted by everyone. For the sake of immersion, i want to be talked down to at first (depending on where i'm at of course) as the 'warrior' is nordic history has almost always been the man, while the women stayed at home and tended the house. Magical roles should be a lot more bi-generally accepted, as should stealthy classes, but i have a hard time believing this big macho Nordic men will accept a women as their warrior role model at first glance. Perhaps once she has proven herself enough, but still the strongest women will never beat the strongest man in a test of strength, our bodies are just build differently, not really better or worse just differently.

I really hope you can change the appearance of the body without mods, change the chest size, body width, skeleton size, height ( i know you can do the whole player.setscale thing on that) To be honest, i try to make my characters as flat as possible just to make a statement, i can't stand seeing large briasted women all the time, it's unfair and wrong.

If they stick to what Nords are like in Oblivion (still get a kick out of being called a snowman) then Nord women should be equal to men. Never having played a female nord, is the comment different in Obivion for a Nord Female (being called a snowwoman)? Anyone played as a Nord female?

Ofcourse we can be females. no one has said we are kings.. With the logic you follow we could only be male nords because that's what we see in the gameplay trailer.

Despite being male, I've played female characters in RPG's since Ultima Underworld. I've gone into it before, but the bottom line was that I found I could "role play" better when playing a female, because it forced me to think more about what I was doing. Playing as a male, I always thought as a male, and generally went in like a Panzer tank. I often missed subtleties, and quite often screwed up quests, because of knee jerk reactions. I just find I get into the story more deeply playing a female than a male.

So, I have played female PC's ever since, and have not regretted it.

However, Nords in TES lore have generally been very equal-minded when it comes to gender. There have been plenty of female leaders, including the leader of Thirsk. Where the Nords have issues is with non-warriors. If anything, they tend to look down their nose at anyone who doesn't routinely poke large holes with large swords or axes.

I do agree that it is silly to have a female warrior with monster briasts, though. If anything, a warrior will tend to be very lean (low BMI) which will tend to result in a more athletic looking chest. Nearly all of the female athletes I've known had comparatively flat chests. They weren't unattractive (to me at least ;) ) but they certainly wouldn't have cut it as porm stars.

Not even Todd could sell to us why we couldn't play as a female. Be that as it may, I wish he would try...for fun. :whistling: It would be interesting to hear what he would say.

Perhaps on April 1st ...

Yeah. Its too unrealistic. Casting fireballs from the hands, otherhand is a lot more realistic. :o Atleast in reallife i sometimes see some people casting fireballs and lightning bolts against each others. But luckily no one has ever casted any spell against me.

It was more if you had mods that changed base dispositions of npc's.
In a vanilla Oblivion they had many insulting comments, however because most games everyone was set at neutral disposition at the start you never hear them.

Goldenrod for an Altmer was my favourite insult.

I run body mods myself so I may be a bit of a hypocrite.
However I'm glad the most common ones have options to tone down the inflation and keep the averages.
Then every time I install it, I end up putting the most conservative outfits on the PC's, and not spending anytime actually looking at the changes.

There was a female player character hunting in the woods on the trailer. So nothing to worry about in that department.

You pretty much explained the reason why this happens yourself, I think. Since most gamers are male (Or at least, developers think most gamers are male, I'm not sure about the actual demographics.) and in order to appeal to said male gamers, they think every female character must be attractive. Now, I don't have anything against seeing attractive women in games, of course, but not every female character needs to look like a super model, especially when male characters get a more realistic level of variety.

Myself, despite being male, I feel it's only logical to give both sixes equal oportunities for variety. If not all the men in Skyrim are attractive, than neither should all the women be.

And the guys, similarly, tend to all have ripped abs, giant pecs & biceps, and chisled faces. Characters in games tend to be idealized.

(The "everyone has the same body, even the old witch in the swamp" thing, is technical limitations - the programmers stuck with the easy approach and just made a single male & female body.)

re: the trailer says "Him"

Well, they did kind of have to pick one. It wouldn't be nearly as dramatic narration if the voice said "and they call him or her....." :D
