Mammoths and Giants?!?

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 4:02 pm

So Ysolda asked me to find her a Mammoth horn , I said sure no problem.
So I head out to skyrim with Lydia on the hunt for a mammoth.
Fount one and its surrounded by Giants and if you attack one they all come after you lol
it doesn't help Lydia gets two shotted either. I am a level 13 Dark elf Archer / One Handed / Restoration.
Any tips?:)
Please and Thank you

Haha, yep messing with the big folk sure does come down hard on you.

You can get mammoth tusks from misc quests and dungeons and mines.

You don't have to take on the mammoths and giants head on friend.

Become the Ultimate stealth assassin, so you can one shot Giants and Mammoths with a Sneaks attack. Just like me!

Don't be a wuss, go at a live mammoth with two iron daggers, power-attack until it's dead, and then run like hell. :P

It will take awhile and a bunch of iron arrows, but you can shoot down a mammoth so long as you keep your distance. i killed one at level 10, but it took bloody ages.

Someone with good archer skills can take out a Mammoth, yes they are very strong but also pretty slow, if you start from long range with a powerful bow, preferably enchanted, you can usually kill them before they reach you

This. As long as it can't touch you, you can take as long as you like. Though at level 4 I did run out of Iron Arrows. :P

I had the same quest, you can find these horns in mine right near whiterun. It's full of bandits and the entrance is protected with
a palisade. I don't know the exact place, but it's near whiterun.

If you play as melee you should probably stay away from mammoths and giants early in the game, if you absolutely have to find a high vantage point and use a bow, if you find the right place they can't get to you.

I managed to get the Mammoth horn after it was dead at the hands of a wolf pack. I snuck up on the mammoth while the giant was pounding the snot out of the wolfs and took the horn back to her.

I just remember: The dungeon where you have to go to find the "family sword" of someone is the mine I and rhinoteen is talking about.

There's a poacher camp a little ways north of Whiterun. There's tons of mammoth tusks inside the cave.

Try finding a group near a high cliff and work your way around to get above them and bombard them with Arrows,
thats what i did with my.
Imperial
Arch-Mage
Campionions Champ
Master Archer
Master Smithing

Character.

PS. I lost lydia in a cave some where wnet through a door (from one map to another in cave) and I dropped
down a ledge and she didn't fo;ow so i went all the way through again and couldn't find her.

I think I'll just use the respawn ocnsole command.

A high place, Arrows and Poison are your friend here. Giants are dumb just use sprint if they get too close and get some distance.

For me the mammoths seem fast even at long range and then the giants come along and murder me , my archery is a 60% I have eagle eye and I'm using an Orcish bow

I don't understand why people are hunting giants and mammoths (unless you play an evil or ruthless character that is)
They are both pretty peaceful creatures and while mammoths seem like a good source for food, fur and ivory, there are not only plenty of alternatives when it comes to food (and why cant you harvest the tusks of mammoth skeletons?) but they are herded by the giants who protects them. Why kill giants? I don't see anyone going out and killing shepherds of other races just so you can kill and loot their herds. There should definitely be some quests where you learn to communicate and possibly trade with giants as an alternative to just killing them. (sure a couple of quest involving putting an end to some evil renegade giants on a murder and plunder spree would also be interesting).
