I can play female characters in like, MMOs or shooters, but I get into my characters too much in an RPG to play as a woman and Ive never been into RPing as anything but myself. /shrug

Male playing as a male first playthrough, going for the usual hero sterotype character, second playthrough probably as a female, in a different playstyle. I like to be as varied as possible from my first to second playthrough as I feel I get more out of the game, and stops it being boring, although I'll probably play it like 20 times through before I stop haha

I don't like playing female characters. I can't relate.

I tend to stick to a three-character pattern in RPGs where choice of character gender is given, with Male/Male (good) for my first, Male/Female (good or evil) for my second, and Male/Male (whatever character 2 wasn't) for my third. I suppose it's because when I first see the game I want to see it through the eyes of a male character without having to re-interpret it as a female and ruin my initial sense of discovery (which could also explain why I always play as female first in MMOs, where immersion is less important).

I'm a woman and I always play as a woman. I relate better to my own gender, at least in games.

So in real life you relate to the opposite gender or what? :o

I'm a man and will be playing as a man my first time through, because I want to do the main quest with a character based off of Thor. But I tend to play female characters in most games when that's an option - I'm a man every day of my life, why not play as a woman when I'm going for some escapism? Same thing as playing as an elf or an orc, really.

I also do tabletop roleplaying, and I play both male and female characters in that, so it's nothing new to me.

I never played a female character in games, I might try it out. They don't really have any differences do they? Do they have like a apron, cooking utensils, home made pies in their inventor automatically from the start?

I'm surprise nobody has flamed you about that statement. That sentence about woman has all the bells and whistles of a chauvinistic statement.

My first two characters will probably be men (first is guaranteed) and my third will most likely be a woman, since I like to try everything in the game. I'm a man btw.

I'm a girl, but i mostly play as a male in RPGs (or most games if i have the choice). Sometimes i'm a girl, but not often unless its my 2nd or 3rd playthrough.

The more general form of this poll ("will you play a male or female character?") has come up several times. Each time, with hundreds of responses, the general percentage has been about the same - ~81% male, ~19% female.

Interesting. And given that there isn't much bias, it's probably one of the more scientifically accurate poll statistics. Potential biases include:

1. The poll respondents are all self-selected - In this case, there's no obvious reason why one type of respondent would be more likely to self-select than another.

2. All of the poll respondents are reading the gamesas forums - No obvious reason why gamesas forum readers would respond differently than non-readers though.

Can't think of any others at the moment.

There's something wrong this poll... In the first question, there are 30 women. In the second question, there are 25 women, and in the third question, there are 26 women. Are there some operations going on mid-vote or something?
