Mandatory HP Lovecraft reference

Oblivion had Hackdirt, Fallout 3 had the Dunwich building and Point Lookout had The Krivbeknih...

So what do you think, what kind of spooky crazy supernatural stuff we'll going to see in Skyrim?

i don't think that skyrim should be a horror game, but i do think they should pick just one cave and turn up the scare factor to amnesia status.

Well, they will have bigger more detailed monsters in this one (Giant, snow troll, dragons)
so the scare factor could easily be upped a bit in situations, imo

Yes! You're forgetting about Bethesda's Call of Cthulhu though. Something like Rats in the Walls would make a good city wide quest. Some epic mission based off a Lovecraft story would be nice. Dunwich Building was my favorite place in Fallout 3, and A Shadow Over Hackdirt is rather high in favorite mission category. Was disappointed a little though, because it didn't really take the entire Cthulhu Mythos into a mission. Took 1 section. I'd like to have to fight a Cthulhu-ish creature.

Horror can be done really well in games not specifically slated as such.

Two very prominent examples come to mind...

The scariest level ever created:
Thief 3: The Cradle

Another very well done level:
VtmB: The Seaside Hotel

Of course, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is pretty much on the level of The Cradle for much of the game.

The thing to note here is that both VtmB and TDS already have supernatural and magical components as a normal thing, yet can be very scary regardless.

Rather than just a blatant reference (which is appreciated) I would like to see them embrace the themes of Lovecraft.

Degenerate daedra worshippers hidden away in underground cults. Quests where you slowly piece together information to reveal a horrifying secret.

Although, rereading the "Case of Charles Dexter Ward" it might be cool to meet an eccentric NPC who is obsessed with learning about a long dead ancestor who dabbled in necromancy...and you know how it goes from there.

Something along the lines of Pickman's Model would be cool.

This! 'Ia Alduin, 'Ia Cthulhu! Although, It'd be cool to see something referring to The Music of Erich Zann though, I've always liked that one and its concept. The Terrible Old Man would be a simple one to refer to as well I think. Any would be great fhtagn lol

Would be interesting to have one of his city wide conspiracy stories in a town sorta like Skingrad. Actually, that would probably explain Nerastarel quite nicely. I don't know, Skingrad just seems like the perfect...Stepford city I guess. Of course Skingrad won't be in Skyrim, but a city like it would be cool.

I thought the Daedric ruins in Morrowind took their inspiration, and gave the best visual representation I've seen of architecture with "non-euclidean geometry."

I would love a quest involving an entire small town full of people like glarthir to varying extents, few even beyond his insanity.

Seaside Hotel is good, it depends on the person of course. Seaside Hotel is over-rated for you, but I and many of my friends rather enjoyed the level. It's nowhere near as good as The Cradle, but still good nonetheless.

A bottle, found deep within a dark foreboding cave, which allows me to conjure a genie (voiced by Robin Williams...obviously). It will grant me three wishes...spears, dragon riding, and the ability to morph into Todd Howard.

The Cradle wins it for me. Amnesia was very good too. Both of these and Lovecraft draw from the fear of the unknown, which is pretty underutilized these days. Too much need to keep a brisk pace in the action these days to keep an audience.

How about something smaller with no ending or consequence? Just an odd layered hissing sound that plays at the characters position now and again, maybe have it drone on for a few minutes at a time.
(not saying this is a good idea, but the forums are alight with terribad at the moment anyway)

The Outsider, The Rats in the wall.

Meet a high elf lich who somehow forgot he turned himself into one and is trying to break inside a banquet and meet some people from his former life.

Or have some dungeon with piles and piles of bones everywhere with tons of different sized rats, I mean 10x the ratio to average dungeons. Underneath an old renovated castle.

Or meet an Erich Zann like character, some bard who has been obsessed with a strange music.

Oh, no. None of that. I will never do a quest or go to a location like that level.
