manual available?

Is the Daggerfall manual available in game, among the materials in the download, or from some site?

No

You know, you could save yourself some effort deleting posts if you'd simply say that unauthorized links to manuals aren't allowed.

That should go without saying. We never allowed piracy on this forum, so why would people think it's ok to pirate the manuals? The DF manual hasn't been released or it would be possible to http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/manuals.htm, and piracy is a bannable offense.

Seeing as how the game is free now, I dont see how downloading the game manual would be piracy, since you know, it comes with the game and its free now.

The manual isn't the game, and hasn't been released for free.

Yes, but the manual was included with the game and the game is now free. That makes the manual free as well. Maybe beth just forgot to include it with the download or maybe they thought it was worthless to include since we have the elderscrolls wiki. Ill email beth and see what they have to say.

Don't mind Freddo. If I did his job for free for as long as he has I'd probably be pretty rude, too.

I don't expect them to release the manual, sad as that may be, but you never know. Even so, all of the needed information (and more) is covered at the http://uesp.net/.

Thats why I figured they did not release it. Its kind of pointless now that we have that site but some people just want to read it, just cause. Also, I seem to recall some of the info in the manual being incorrect, that could be another reason why they chose not to release it.

I don't see how you're slapping together this logic. By that same logic, since the original game came with the game box beth should be sending a free DF game box to everyone downloading it. But they are not, because neither makes any sense.

What?! Nobody is asking Bethesda to distribute paper manuals. What people are suggesting is that since Bethesda is no longer preventing online distribution of Daggerfall, perhaps there's no reason for Bethesda to prevent online distribution of the manual. They don't even have to create such a document themselves for that to be possible, although an officially created and distributed .PDF manual would be awfully nice.

It does seem a bit odd to allow free distribution of the game (thanks, guys!), but then say "Instructions on how to actually *use* the game? Why would you need that?".

Btw, as far as I've been able to tell today, UESP isn't working. I can't get past the title page. ("UESPWiki has a problem") And then there's all the people who find the Daggerfall download - there's an article about it on RPGamer, for example - and know nothing about UESP. So "eh, we don't need a manual, we've got the wiki" doesn't work all that well.

My best guess is that the manual wouldn't really help all that much in lieu of the internet, and they'd have to distribute it with the game, which uses up even more bandwidth. Bethesda's servers are obviously having trouble with a ton of people grabbing the game, so they probably want to slim it down as much as possible.

The UESP is very helpful, but there are other resources out there. http://www.izhtex.com/tes2/ used to be very popular, and has a ton of useful information for a Daggerfall newbie.
