To many Fusion Cores

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 8:01 am

At the start of the game:

Ah, I have found a fusion core in this basemant. I'll be able to use my power armour now.

Oh dear. Getting low on cores. Down to my last one. I hope I won't have to abandon it out here in the open.

A little while later:

Let's take a look in this suit case. 2 Fusion cores. I'll loot this chem cooler. 4 fusion cores. Killed a mole rat. Fusion core...

Wearing power armour, carelessly sprinting, gattling laser in hand and even ejecting them to detonate and I still have excess of fusion cores.

Is it just me or are there just to many? I understand that Bethesda made it with "woo yeah power armour" in mind for the players, but I seem to find way to many. 4 fusion cores in a workmans lunchbox!? Seriously?

I have the same gripe with stim packs. When you play on survival things can kill you in two hits and healing is very slow so you tend to avoid getting hit. However I end up having near 200 stim packs.

In short, harder difficulties should be harder to collect stim packs and fusion cores.

Use a game mod to have less loot. Makes the wasteland feel much better. I'm lvl 29 atm and have 4 power cores available.

Is that a nexus mod? Do you have a link? I would love to play that.

You could always sell them if you felt like you had too many. I do see your point though, there does seem to be an abundance of them. I didn't play with PA initially, but lately I've been using it a lot so I can loot things and carry more junk back to the settlement and build a bigger/better base. I think I'm more surprised by the sheer volume of PA available, I think I have 16 suits of it now between the Castle and Sanctuary.

"Woo yea! Power armour!" - Bethesda 2015

Everybody loves power armour. Let's give them power armour around every corner.

There are some available, I use this: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1486/?

It restricts not only fusion cores, so be careful. You have to buy ammo if you want to stick to a certain rarer calibre. And especially 5 mm minigun ammo is hard to get. Or, with lvl 29 I have f.e. 5 rockets and 3 mininukes. I like it but many might not.

I love stuff like this. Makes it feel more like a scavenging game rather than a, well, have everything game.

Cores were never really meant to get chewed up by power armor but rather a weapon that uses power cores as ammunition.

Most people will probably never use said weapons because who invests into heavy weapons seriously?

I currently wear power armour full time, have fully upgraded 'said weapon' and will often eject fusion cores using a certain perk and STILL find more than I need to function.

But, with this mod suggested by a fellow I will be rid of all these cores. Hehe

With the perk maxed, even said weapon will be hard pressed to spend cores fast enough. You went from 500 shots per core to 1000. Doubling their lifespan means basically turning every fusion core you find into a 2-for-1 deal, and when I find them in an ammo crate, they often come as a group of four and they only become more common as I level. A technical eight per find is beyond overkill.

It's also quite silly to pick up a perk meant to increase the lifespan of fusion cores only to turn around and bemoan having too many.

I do and I can't keep enough fusion cores on hand. My main weapon is a furious Gatling Laser that chews through practically everything.

Early on, I struggled for cores, to the point, where I just kept my power armour for dealing with anywhere that was heavy with Ghoul, supermutant or Gunner activity or somewhere that had a boss type character.

For the first 100 hours, I think I never had more than half a dozen cores at any one time, and I'd burn through them pretty quickly. I'd seek out locations in the hopes of finding a generator to pull one out of, check every trader and even boost me luck a bit to find them in loot..

Now, I think I have about forty or fifty.

ammo perk for the win!

I use 2 X01 suits constantly. have over 150 cores.

edit: but you are correct. perks and higher levels make all kind of stuff way easier to get.

I wonder why you guys are finding all these cores.

I'm lvl 27 and have 4 cores but a couple of them are pretty well used up.

Is there a list of where to find them?

I was in the same boat at that level. got the ammo perk that lets you find more ammo in containers and hit like level 40ish, then they were everywhere!

Agreed that they give you a lot of them, but at the same time I want to be able to use my PA jump jets constantly and equip my followers with gatling lasers when I am very late in the game =)

Yah, I think that it must be the ammo-Scrounger perk that nets the large number of cores. Finding one in the basemant of every hospital or police station or whatever makes sense as you get ONE from their generator. The ones you find out in the wild, in someone's lunch box, are likely a result of the perk.

I have lots of fusion cores primarily because I do not use power armor.

From time to time I would get more than one fusion cores from Behemoths; one time I got 4 of them. My Luck is only 4 so I was quite surprised I got that many.

How much of that leveling was spent exploring and looting? If your exploring be sure to search EVERYTHING!

I've found maybe 40 or 50 and I'm level 61 with 2 luck. Guess it's worth noting I've looted and sold enough to have about 40k caps too. No charisma or luck perks. Natural charisma of 2 lol. I pick/hack everything, don't loot things that only result in wood/steel, or weigh too much for what they give. Almost never loot weapons/armor.

I sold a lot of them, and now only have 12, and have a gatling laser I want my follower to use, but even with the slower firing mod, they use them up too fast.

Sell your fusion cores and stimpacks. Duh. Just because you have a case of beer doesn't mean you have to drink it all at once.

I've found a few of them from trash cans and ice chests. I tend to look in all containers for valuable loot. I suppose fusion cores qualifies as "valuable loot". I think I even got one from a feral ghoul.

I am lvl 41 and I have over 60 of them. About 20% of those I purchased from vendors. A lot of those vendors are stores that I setup in my settlements.

Make sure to search everywhere. I have spent my whole time wandering and searching. I am very slow going in the main quest. I have not even gone to Diamond City yet.
