So many lore creatures - Hackwings, Fleshflies

Post » Thu Sep 09, 2010 6:49 pm

O Bethesda! Why do you tease us with these creatures - the dreaded http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-argonian-account-2 of Blackwood, but not show them to us in game?

For some of you modders who were thinking of adding lore-friendly creatures, there are enough examples in the books of TES... these two jumped out from reading the Argonian Account books.

So which other creatures of lore are missing in game that you could find? This might generate some ideas for additions to MMM (hint hint) or other creature mods.

There are a ton of Lore based creatures that have not made it into Oblivion simply because they would require someone who knows how to make New Creatures and not just Re-Hash the old ones, there are also quite a few that existed in older games that can be Re-Hashed onto the existing assets that have not made it -> just look up beastries for the older games you will find alot of materials to work with.

Two of my favorite lore creatures that I think would be awesome in Oblivion are the gehenoth (http://home.comcast.net/~mjonesgraphics/travels.html) and the wormmouth (http://home.comcast.net/~mjonesgraphics/shadow.html).

You just did!
I didn't because I knew someone else would... everyone loves sloads. Every time a conversation is started about bringing in creatures from other ES games, sloads always come up. They're a fan favorite. There have been at least 2 or 3 projects both for Morrowind and Oblivion attempting to bring sloads in, but unfortunately they've never been finished.

But hackwings are birds, right? And clanfears are ground-based...

MMM already has swarms - maybe fleshflies could be like swarms, but damaging health instead?

Well, sloads were included in an TES game - Redguard (well, only one sload N'gasta)

Other missing creatures - Voriplasm "he realized that the pool of green slime in front of them was actually moving, and fairly quickly, from one bank to the other. It deposited small bones behind it as it oozed up into the reeds, and disappeared."

and

Half submerged in the water ahead was a mountain of spines, lying on nine-foot-long claws. White eyes stared blindly forward, and then suddenly the whole creature spasmed and lurched, the jaw of its mouth jutting out, exposing tusks clotted with gore.

"Swamp Leviathan" - both coming from http://www.imperial-library.info/content/oblivion-argonian-account-4.

I pictured the hackwings as terror birds. there sorta like ostriches but eat meat ;) and that would fit the clannfear skeleton perfect

These are not conversion from morrowind, they are modified imperial races from Oblivion.

There are terror birds in Waalx Animals & Creatures that use the clannfear skeleton and they are AWESOME.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-YZRPzfeO4, They are the second creature shown the 1st is the membrane that controls the slimes. -> this is the only critter even remotely like those for Ob and FO3.

I have also started a few Lore based Models that I have never shown the Iron Golem and TES Garg (not just a re-textured Imp) the Nagas and Lamias among a few others -> mostly I stuck to my original project scope creating King's Field and Metroid Creatures.

yeah... there is great supply of TES creatures in the existing lore.

I helped prep a Bull and Betty Netch's for animation about a year ago so they do exist and they work in Oblivion because I personally got them to work and tested in-game -> I did not create any animations (as they were not my models I was just helping out) so maybe that is why they have never surfaced.

A year ago? damn. Someone needs to pull a finger out. the damn thing is probably going to be mostly static and just a hand full of tentacles dangling around. Anims don't sound that hard to do. It's not like it has to do back flips or any kind of walkcycle.. it just floats around for the most part. just need a cast anim for the poison spit, and an amin that wallops you with it's dangly bits :D

Well you know how the old saying goes- you want something done right..
