Many people say "Skip Arena" Why?

Sure it's dated and all, but so many people are just like "Just start with Daggerfall". Heck I've even heard people say "Skip Daggerfall too and just start with Morrowind." o_o

As dated as the game is, I've had so much fun with Arena. And it's such an epic part of the TES lore. Just curious. lol

I like Arena too. But, the lore really picked up with Daggerfall. That's when the franchise picked up steam.

Arena was not a TES game in the sense of what they are today. Arena was never meant to be an RPG, but more an Action Game.

Daggerfall is buggy, unless you get one of the modded installs that are out there to take care of the bugs. It also requires an understanding of DOSBOX, in particular, setting things like memory or the CPU speed. Not sure if the modded installs take care of this or not. However, Daggerfall is a great game and should be played at least once.

At least one modded install, http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup_EN, does indeed include all you need to run the game. Installation is fairly foolproof. I use it on two computers without issue. (I also own the game on disk.) It's not glitch-free, but crashes far less often than what I recall from playing the game back when it was new and shiny. My one regret is that my 1997 saves...yes, I saved them all these years...don't work well with it, likely due to extra content and third-party fixes. I suppose one can't expect miracles.
