So many rings you can't use

Post » Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:17 pm

I don't like the fact you can find or create so many rings that you can't use because you can only choose 2.

It's a balance issue, if you could wear lots of magical rings it would be over-powering.

I too wish we can wear 4+ rings so we don't waste any we come across.
If only we can wear 2 cuirasses and 2 gloves and 2 boots and 2 greaves for
extra warmth in the north towards Bruma.
Also don't forget to wear 4+ amulets as well!!

I just thing it's kind of a waste of just being able too choose 2 rings.
You should beble to add to already to enchanted items like alchemy I mean you find items thalt have multiple enchants.

Bind them. For certain builds I'll bind six rings, that way you have a ring on each finger.

I'm okay with only two rings per finger.

My problem is that magical rings are just too easy to find at higher levels. And the only thing most are good for are vendor fodder (aka selling).

At higher levels you get too many very high level rings. Seems like I have a jewelry box with maybe a half dozen Mundane Rings. That's just too much I think.

Bravil can be very warm and swampy. But that might come in handy in the cold mountainous town of Bruma.

No binding (in the unmodded game).

My character uses a mod that lets her wear up to 8 rings (she likes jewelry and has 8 fingers, and doesn't care for thumb or toe rings). She finds it very helpful because she has so darn many outfits and amulets she likes for looks that she can't be bothered enchanting any of that - she could never keep up with it all if she tried to enchant other apparel.

Now that said, she typically wears no enchanted gear in town and two detect life rings where there be danger. She loves having a dozen other rings (night eye, water breathing etc) all standing by in her jewelry bag when she needs them. She wears a resist cold ring when she is up in the snowy areas. She wears a resist fire ring where it is really hot (like the planes of Oblivion).

The game is too easy to wear a bunch of armor or enchanted stuff.

What do you mean by binding? I take binding as meaning combining two rings.

What is your definition of binding? Maybe I misunderstood.

Oh...OK... binding is permanently equipping an item, so you cant take it off, but it doesn't count towards you wearing said item. A console trick that probably isn't needed for the PC version since I'm sure console commands can do the same thing.

You can use more than two rings. You just can't use more than two rings AT ONCE.

Carry several around and swap them out based on the situation. Stealth, fire resist, magicka buff, shield - it doesn't take a genius to figure out when to wear each.

Fixed.
My little wood elf has never been that great at remembering correct town names.

Only work with quest items as far as I know. if you get arrested wearing quest items like the draconian madstone or boots of springheel jack they get removed but as you can not normally remove them a bug causes the magical effect to become permanent.

Also some quests who removes all your items. Possible game breaking if you do that wearing the grey cowl as you would become the grey fox permanently.

Oh I see. Yes you can do that as a glitch exploit. But as mentioned above, only works with quest items.

I thought you had meant combine the enchantments of two rings into a single ring. You can't do that (without mods).

This is true. They obviously need to limit the amount of rings you can wear somehow. Although I suppose it doesn't necessarily have to be two, it could also be four or something, the point is that there needs to be a limit and it needs to be one that's balanced within the mechanics of the game. But I suspect the specific choice of 2 is also a matter of tradition.

But regardless, you can still carry around all the rings you created. So you can switch them out if you feel that you need a different effect more. For example, if you have rings that provide elemental resistence, you can change which ones you're wearing based on what kind of spells your current enemy uses. Or you might prefer to switch to a ring of shield if your current foe doesn't use magic. Rings are fairly light, so you can get away with carrying a few different ones for specific situations.

Not a big problem I think, having just two rings and one amulet is fine. If I want more I just add enchantments and potions if situation calls for it

That's a good idea, seems to make sense that you have 8 fingers so should have a limit of 8.

They could of had a system by where you can only equip 1 of each ring, so you can't just have 8 reflect damage or something.

I use a mod (Kuertee Magicka-based Magic Jewelry Limits) that bases the number of rings and amulets you can wear without penalty on your magicka level. So mages can wear more rings, but when you go over the limit, you start getting hit with a nasty drain spell that hits your fatigue and your highest combat skill.

I don't have a problem with the 2 ring limit, I just replace rings according to the situation. Since they don't weigh much I can drag them all around. I just wish merchants were rich enough to actually buy the rings I don't want. I haven't met anyone who had more than ~1500 in the coffers, and my rings are worth more than that =(
