Many thanks Crytek for updates - what about Sandbox 3?

Many thanks for the continuous updates and look forward to seeing more - that will Crysis 2 alive. Are there any news about a level editor or Sandbox 3? That will really make Crysis 2 a proper PC title (like its predecessor) and increase the life time of this excellent game (Crysis 1 and 2).

I guess it depends on their budget. EA does not want to loose DLC revenue. Also presence of Sandbox 3 might encourage console monkeys to buy a pc version so they can play free mods. THis will further harm the DLC revenue.

When was the last time any EA game came with mod tools?

I think we can expect a fair bit of overpriced DLC before Sandbox 3 is released.

Judging by EA's policy towards milking something for all its worth - don't expect it. When Sandbox 3 finally sees the light of day it will most likely only be as part of the Crytek answer to UDK - and you can darn well be certain that it will not work with Crysis 2 assets.

If a Crysis 2 mod toolkit ever sees the light of day EA and Crytek could make gobs of money by encouraging community development of mods/maps/etc by opening up a way for teams to sell their mods via existing Crysis 2 DLC pathways to console gamers - it frees up Crytek to work on whats next, makes PC users happy since they have their mod scene, makes teams some money and exposes them to professional development, puts EA in a good light with the community, and it extends the life of the game dramatically since the volume of content for the world would be much greater - which makes EA and Crytek more money...
