Map Editor in TheElderScrolls V:Skyrim?

Post » Sun Dec 13, 2009 5:54 pm

I personally have always thrived for a editor similar to the construction set on PC but for Console use. I have the Morrowind Construction set and I love it, but my computer is not strong enough for Xbox360 Graphics. I know that a Console such as the Xbox360 or PS3 probably cannot hold the Construction set. But I would like maybe a seperate disk containing a Map Editor you can download to your console then load in game. Similar to Forge from the Halo series except with more options. With the possibility to make Characters, Quests, Towns, structures, weapons, etc. Except more user friendly, the Construction set was sort of hard for me to use at first.I imagine it can be done, and Ibelieve it would be really cool to create your own things. Possibly have a share option in which you can post your creation onto the Search engine or File Share. As well as search for other creations and download them. I dont mean things such as The Better city mod, or just way out of the box mods. I simply mean using ingame options and creating something with them. Such as with RPG Maker, or Tenchu 2 Editors. Post Opinions or Ideas onto the bottom, no hating please.

Probably wouldn't happen man sorry, the construction set needs to be so in depth, it would be almost impossible to make something compareable on a console. Sorry dude.

Yeah pretty much this, and the fact that they don't make the CS just for modding. That's what they actually use to make the game, they build that because it's necessary.

Freddo made an informative post about this in another thread:
The CS will never be released for the consoles for a number of reasons.

1) Bethesda created the CS to build the game world. They build the game world on the PC, just like how they use Photoshop and 3DS MAX on the PC and not on the consoles. So the main purpose of the CS is to be a tool to make the game development easier. That they then can give it away their tool for free is just an added bonus.

2) Sort of related to 1, it's a waste of money to develop a CS that they will never use. They already built the game world on the PC, why would they develop specific console versions? It won't benefit their game development in any way.

3) The CS is a Windows program and heavily use the specific Windows APIs that aren't available on the consoles. To port it to the consoles would not only take a lot of paid development time, it wouldn't be easy either.

4) The CS use noticeably more RAM than the games themselves, and it's usage go well above 1GB when the terrain generator is used. The consoles doesn't have enough RAM to run the CS.

5) If there was a crippled console CS (why on earth would they release a crippled product!?), it would still eventually run out of RAM because the town got too big or whatever, and cause the console to crash. While a PC practially can't run out of RAM, it will just increase the pagefile.

Then there are the extra work on how mods should be distributed on the consoles and so on. Not to mention that a lot of PC people who try mods make their games unreliable and the PC starts to crash noticeably more, so more support is needed as well, not only from Bethesda, but from Microsoft and Sony as well.

I don't see why you would want it. If you are not happy with the game that ZeniMax have provided you with then trade it in. If you want it for mods then that's different and I agree with you there, but then it wouldn't be official and they wouldn't put it in.

i dont understand why i can't be done? im not as smart as all of you guys with computers but i mean halo reach forge world was incredible. There was no limits to what you can do i can bui;d a map in the skye and fuse rocks together to make a cool building. there was some incredible stuff on there plus the campiaign theater mode and xbox live mode, that all came on one disk. why can't they put a construction set on oblivion for us to play around with

I agree, Halo Reach had forge which was awsome and that came on one disk. The Editor is absolutely possible

The problem is that the construction set isn't just a simple map editor, it's much more than that. It's not spawning objects and moving them around in a Gmod-like fashion.

Also they probably would nerf the PC version.

I'm upgrading to PC for TES V for good mods, not watered down stuff.

As has been said, there is no financial incentive for Bethesda to create something similar to Halo's Forge because TES is a single-player game, and Halo is a multiplayer game. Bungie wants gamers to continue to play Halo Reach online (the player-base creating new maps every day ensures this), while Beth wants you to play their game, buy the official downloadable content and expansions, then buy their next game.

It'd be nice to have, but it would be a massive waste of time, energy, and money on Bethesda's part with no gain for them.

The Forge and the CS differ on so many levels, it wouldn't be fair to list them all here.

In short, Beth's CS is used to design a whole freakin game. Forge is not.

Hell yes! I would LOVE this. I imagine it would be an amazing experience to be able to create my own home or settlement with NPC's that wander around and say things to each other off in the middle of nowhere. Just the ability to make NPC's would be amazing let alone using previously created content to arrange my own base of operations, fortress, or little cottage area. If this happened on the 360 I would cry tears of sunshine.

No it would be along of the lines why have they taken away the CS.

I'm not hating by the way. I just don't think it would feasible on a console.

Also Sony and Microsoft aren't a massive fans of mods.

I would love it, yes.

It won't happen, ever. Moddinng on consoles won't work as there are so many things that need to happen, one of them being Microsoft allowing it.
