Map "Explored/Looted" Checkbox

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:09 pm

I don't need to be too demanding about map or journal personalization, but I do at least need to be able to assign a category beyond just "Discovered" to map locations.

I often discover several locations on my way somewhere, and only later do I get around to properly dungeon delving into them....only by then I don't remember which I have actually looted/explored, and which I just breezed past. And I certainly can't remember when I'm on to a second character. So in the end I often never really get around to going INTO many of the dungeons because I think I already have.

I would be thrilled if there was just a way to change the map marker icon to a "third" color signifying "done" or fully explored (or whatever anyone wanted it to mean, but that's what I would use it for).

Yes, but I would rather be demanding and ask for notes... :whistling:

I like the idea aside from the fact that things re spawn pretty quickly.

I would very much like to be able to add notes to to map icons. Id be happy with a greyed out(for explored) toggle option.

Bethesda should go look at the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26389 mod for Oblivion. That's how I want map markers to work (though having notes *in addition* to that would be wicked). And like in MMO, I'd like to be able to make my own map markers. :D

If it could be implemented well, I'm all for it. A lot of times when I know I'm coming up on a cave or ruin that I have no interest in exploring at the time, I avoid it completely so I don't "discover" it and forget about it completely. Very good idea I think.

I'm more interested in the place than the things. (Anything random that respawns is basically expendable anyway)
I just want to know whether or not I've fully experienced that particular bandit hideout, with any visual quirks, backstory, or nifty secrets it might have.

Great idea. Or being able to add notes to the dungeon, such as the type of enemy inside, leftover loot, etc...

That's obviously the holy grail, but I'm just trying to put forward the most basic compromise solution for starters.
And the console gamer legions wouldn't bother typing anything in anyway, since it's a pain the neck for them. But they could toggle through a few pre-sets, or some pre-sets and one or two custom labels that they only have to define once...

Yes please. With the map marker overhaul listed above you can mark things as found, finished, for a quest, too hard, etc.

That is awesome.

Definitely a good idea. It gets a little tiresome to have to avoid locations so you don't fully discover them if you don't have the inclination to actually comb through them at the time (and occasionally discovering them by accident anyway). I fear notes will not be in, at least, for the simple reason that they're awkward to type on the consoles and PC-specific UIs are a thing of the past in Bethesda games, but a toggleable icon would be nice as well.

I *really* wish I knew about this one long time ago. Sounds like one of the best mods ever.

If we have found a dungeon, it should be remembered on our map just as in Oblivion, but if we have cleared it, meaning entered it and got far enough to get the treasure chest inside, it should be marked as visited, maybe shift from bright brownish to dark brownish.

My opinion is pretty much this.

Agree here, you will run into dungeons that are to hard for you, and want to mark them for later exploration, or mark done low level dungeons so you don’t bother explore. Also resources like farms with many plants you can harvest and mines in Skyrim.
I would like tor write notes but just changing flag and a standard comment would help.
