Map Making

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:23 pm

Most older FPS were kept alive by the fact that the players could make their own maps. With the rise of MW we have seen less and less of that. Will we be able to make our own maps in Brink and if so how will SMART effect map creation?

I feel like making your own map in this game would be a HUGE job, and i don't think splash damage would have added that in, in the time they have had to make the game! three years i believe.

They are most likely not to put that in. And for PC it will probably be a mod.

Welcome. Have a http://haveafishystick.ytmnd.com/.

I don't think they will release an official map creation kit.

I only see a mod for the PC and that's about it. Consoles I see nothing of the sort.

Seems unlikely, seeing as Brink maps are always enclosed, and a lot of Security ares look indoors. It's not like in other games that are usually quite wide-open or have the same few buildings copy/pasted just with walls/sandbags/crows nests/whatever. The maps in Brink look too detailed to allow that sort of creation for the general public.

EDIT: YAY SHINY CURATE STAR!! :celebration: Haven't even been here 3 weeks!

"No SDK" has been confirmed for releae.

However, officials have stated that "both Splash Damage and Bethesda are known for great community support" *hint hint*.

I feel like making your own map in this game would be a HUGE job, and i don't think splash damage would have added that in, in the time they have had to make the game! three years i believe.

If they release a similar map-creation-tool like Crytek did for Far Cry 2, it would be quite easy to use. And probably be idiot-proof.

I really hope they will be so nice and release an SDK. Far Cry 2 custom maps were hell of a fun, even if the game itself barely offers anything more than any other TDM themed multiplayer. Looking forward to complex SMART based custom maps, even if they are just for fun, the official number of levels are a bit too low for me.

I hated the map editor for Far Cry 2. It was a pain in the ass to use.

The only way a map editor for the consoles could work is if if gave you a checklist of sorts, a list of certain things you're map was required to have before it could work.

Like first you'd have to set up spawn points at either end of the map. Then you'd have to set up objectives A, B, and C a certain distance away from each other and so on and so forth.

If they release an SDK, than I'm pretty sure that there will be a decent amount of maps/mods. I hope that they port the best PC content over for console players. Could be free then as well, everyone satisfied? :P

ummm.. didn't Far Cry 2 have that?... I'm pretty sure there requirements for each gametype to work on your map. I'd gladly go back to working on my RP map (which is a single house so far btw), if people we're sure to play it, but the stress of working with something beyond my skills, and having ZERO reward for doing so (job well done doesn't count :verymad:).

Also I enjoy using forge mode on Halo, I built two maps, that I'm actually proud of.

Consoles shouldn't have map-editors anyway. They are not meant to. The only thing they can have is Little Big Planet which technically makes map-editing a game itself.

Oh and what you describe is just essentially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLrP9pVSY1k.

And just why is that exactly?

Because consoles are dedicated gaming-devices.

It's their blessing and curse.
