Map Marker Reveal Distance

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:45 pm

I'm trying to get map markers reveal earlier on compass/map, but the old http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/IMapMarkerRevealDistance doesn't seem to do anything.

The weird thing was, I've modified this variabel (set it to 5000 from default 1000) and the map markers revealed earlier when closing into locations. But then after I was starting to play again, it did no longer seem to work.

Can anyone share some inout on this problem?

The map markers have a radius setting on each individual marker placed in the world.

WillieSea is right. Each map marker has a unique radius setting, so you would have to change them all individually in order to get it to work. I'm guessing you just hit a couple of map markers that have wide radii and assumed that your setting worked.

I think he means how early they show up on your compass.

Ok, thanks for the answer. Then I guess I'll have to modifie them individually.

No, I don't.

Ah, the actual 'You discovered distance'? Yeah, like they said it's in the Extra tab of the Map Marker's Reference settings. Whatever distance is plugged in is visually represented by the yellow circle (Just a line) around the map marker, so you don't have to test each one ingame to figure out how far it is. :)

The easy way to increase that radius is the hold S and click+drag it. Exactly like you would to Scale an object bigger or smaller, the radius you see for the map marker will increase and decrease in size :)

How many vanilla map markers are there? And what about the map markers that get imported by mods? I'd need to make compatibility patches for other mods.

Why couldn't Bethesda not just leave the old variable in?

However, thanks for the input.

About 385 not including DLC?

And yes it's defined in each map marker, so you'd need to make a patch for every single mod if you want to change that mod's marker distance.

They set it on each map marker because the discovery distance cannot be the same for each one. What if you have a marker for a tiny hovel? You'd want the player to be very close. What about a marker in the center of a large village? You'd want it discovered as soon as the player enters the outer areas of the village. Each situation is different, so each marker can be tailored to the needs of the place it represents. It's actually a huge step forward from 'every marker is exactly the same'. :P
