Well they could never represent a city correctly, because the map would be huge, the citadel or pentagon is surrounded by a huge carpark in reality, plus the riverside frontage is incorrect, plus from the capital building to the lincolns memorial goes up to the edge of the potomac and buildings dont block the way to the whitehouse, theres a lawn which leads from the washington monument, plus the rear of the capitol building theres some major buildings missing. Arlington national cemetary is right next to the pentagon as well, and arlington house isnt a wooden residential building. Im from Australia but was going to run pen and paper rpg fallout 3, so i did alot of study of the maps of the area to get locations correct.

But no basically its their representation of dc for the purposes of the game, same as new vegas, the vegas strip is completely different, the place names are pretty well correct though, just not exactely in the correct positions due to game limitations.

I dont have anything listed on any of my maps of dc of the embassies, but id say from the lore of the game there wouldnt be many, most of it would be a guess since theres no evidence of the diplomatic relationship with other countries.

They could not be on the map, cause Bethesda just chopped a third of the city off, and stuck the rest of it in a corner.

No, I just made that up. If there are any embassy's then they are unmarked or not on the map.

Alot of buildings arent listed, were you see the ones behind the capital building one should be the supreme court building, where the black talon mercs and super mutants are fighting, so its a good example of alot of the ones that arent either listed, or just basically made accessible.

The area around the Lincoin Memorial to the Capital Building is supposed to be almost spot on, except for the distance the take up and the Museums around the sides.
There was a site linked in a thread previously about this which had screenshots comparing them.

I think the general feel of DC is pretty similar. But obviously it'll be quite different just based upon the fact that we're talking about a game here and one that is set in an alternate universe to boot.

Same thing goes for the wasteland area in general. One thing that interested me was that they named "Evergreen Mills" from a road that runs in the area in real life.

The DC map in Fallout 3 is basically a condensed version of the real life Washington DC. In the game they just threw all the interesting stuff closer together while trying to maintain some semblance of the real DC. If the downtown DC area of the map was just like it is in real life, it would be huge and, imo pretty damn boring. I'm glad they made it the way they did in Fallout 3.
