Maps might need a little reworking

I don't know about other players but I find both local and world maps to be difficult to read at times. The local maps are only tough when inside a building with multiple floors or vaults. I find it to be the lack of detail on the map itself. Especially the world map, it's cluttered with icons and yes I know some icons are unique to locations but you can't tell the difference between the Aerotech Office Park and the Poseidon Gas Station. They both have an icon of a destroyed building. But Aerotech and Poseidon are both visually different locations when seeing them in the world.

I guess really what I'm saying is there should be a visual representation on the map of what that specific location contains and on local maps it should be easier to navigate corridors when you get lost. Just better details would be nice, I noticed the concrete divides in roads look big enough to be buildings or cargo containers when you look at them on the local map.

I can't say I've been lost before except maybe when I first played. But it does sometimes prove difficult to get out of some vaults like Vault 22. I always seem to get turned around in that one. And the only times I find it difficult to find something on the world map is when I don't know the exact location of it but I know which region it's in.

if lost the best thing to do is to activate a different quest. The markers will point you towards the exit.

The local map should contain more detail like enemy locations and terminals etc.

I do follow the markers, it's just times when the buildings like Vault 22 mix natural caves with man-made structures. Or multiple floors floor with a lot of rubble or destroyed walls.

the maps are a pain to use. part of it is because some places dont have distinct floors and pass over and under eachother

You brought up another point I forgot to mention. Some corridors look like they connect but don't and yes the hall ways passing under and over eachother is what I'm talking about when I say it's difficult when navigating a building with multiple floors. The maps need more distinct details, something that lets you know the difference between locations and gives you an idea of what's at that location. The Gun Runners kiosk is a perfect example. The icon is a picture of a factory with smokestacks, yes technically it is a factory run by the Gun Runners. But the only reason people go there is to buy weapons and ammunition. The icon doesn't depict that I can go and do that there.

Fallout 4 would do well to have interior maps in 3D.

They don't need maps in 3D, just different layer for different levels.

HELIOS One, Camp McCarran, Primm, and Jacabstown are the only locations big enough to see on the map.

I've always assumed the maps were so crappy because it was supposed to disorient you and add suspense.
Personally, I'd like clearer maps.
What I'd really, really like is a map like Morrowinds that filled in as you explored. Remember that beauty?
