Mardi Gras!

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 1:05 pm

Today is Mardi Gras! How are you celebrating?

For those of you who don't know, I will give you a helpful rundown of Mardi Gras:

1. "Mardi Gras" means "Fat Tuesday."
2. Mardi Gras is all about decadence, opulence, and having a good time. Essentially, for certain religions, this is the day to get all the party out of your system, so you can be lame for the next few weeks/months/whatever.

However, this is not a topic about religion (because that is frowned upon around these parts), it is a thread about the celebratory aspect of the holiday. As in, food, drinks, and having fun.

As such, discuss what you would be doing today, if you were partying like you should be.

Because it is Mardi Gras.

No beads, but tonight I will feast (On alcohol) and gaze upon bare flesh! God I love college towns.

I don't find beads particularly fascinating, but I don't mind walking around my room in my birthday suit..

Virginia is an uncultured hellhole, so I honestly have no idea what Mardi Gras is all about. All I know is it features beads or somethin.

It's Fat Tuesday in Sweden too!

Only we eat pastries to become fat before the fast (specifically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semla). Well, that's the tradition at least!

No one celebrates Mardi Gras in my area, but from what I can gather on television there's lots of wild parties?

As far as am aware, there's the Gay and lisbian Mardi Gras up in Sydney and... that's it for Australia.

Mardi Gras for us was last week, during Carnival. Which is a weeklong celebration of hedonism, begining last Tuesday. It's Fat Tuesday here, and tomorrow it will be Ash Wednesday and the begining of Lent.
But to be clear, yes, Mardi Gras does mean Fat Tuesday. Only here we refer to Mardi Gras as the entire weeklong celebration, which ends on Fat Tuesday.

Well Carnaval was yesterday (since it's past midnight) I'm guessing it ain't a coincidence since Mardi Gras always reminds of Carnaval...

As far as I know we don't celebrate it in Alberta, but I have to study anyways. I'll party this weekend and keep Mardi Gras in mind.

I will be making a bigger deal out of tomorrow than today, and that is all I have to say about Mardi Gras.

My friend had a crapload of Mardi Gras stuff with her today, but other then that I have had no contact with the holiday.

On the otherhand, I had some good pizza for lunch. And some other good pizza for dinner. So overall, great day

Marti Gras is a huge gay event here in Sydney. Not really my sort of thing I guess.

One day I'll have to go to New Orleans during Marti Gras. I've already been there during 'spring break' and I doubt it can get much wilder :P

I actually didn't know that Mardi Gras was this week, because it's not really celebrated nor mentioned here. It's already Wednesday here anyway, and I'm not really old enough to go out partying and drinking yet. I will one day though. Mardi Gras honestly sounds fantastic :)
