Mariposa mutants in Fallout 4?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:00 pm

In the gameplay trailer we clearly see that the super mutants are smaller than in 3, they are now about the same size as the player. Does this mean that the mutants in Fallout 4 are from the Mariposa military base rather than Vault 87? If so, do you think we'd be able to talk to the majority of them? A mutant settlement like Jacobstown, mayber? I can't see why Bethesda would make the super mutants smaller and weaker if you won't be able to talk to them to a greater degree.

No, they are all Vault 87, because Mariposa doesn't have Behemoths, a variant unique to 87

But maybe a few of them found book and get smarters

I think it's just a redesign to resemble the west coast super mutants.

I think it's just a general redesign, so either Vault 87, or there was another FEV lab somewhere on the East Coast.

One of those things we'll just have to find out.

Or even a different batch of FEV mixing the mariposa and the V87 formulas.

I notice they are more green than in Fo3 so i assume they just redesigned them, i doubt the Mutants from way on the other coast are over in Boston

Either way, I hope they include some intelligent super mutants. I love Marcus and Neil and I'd like to see more like them.

I tend to agree with those saying it's likely a design decision made by Beth. Most likely it's in light of some of the criticisms of Fallout 3, and nothing more.

Funny thing is that I can easily see some of the same people who have been complaining about things like the super mutant's appearance in Fallout 3, also complaining about it in Fallout 4. Complaining that they have now copied Black Isle, and couldn't come up with an original idea on their own if it came up and bit them on the nose.

Beth just can't seem to please some people, yet they keep trying to please as many as they can. Unfortunately, that's just the way things go. The more people you try to please, the more people are going to be put off by the attempt.

I'd like to believe the benefits outweighs the drawbacks. I'll just have to wait and see where I stand on the matter when I play FO4. I'm still undecided on it.

EDIT: Couldn't care less if I ever see Fawkes again, but Uncle Leo would be cool.

They are most likely from Vault 87... They ran out of fev, and have been fighting a war with the Brotherhood of Steel, so they could have started to migrate away from D.C. in search of new locations of fev and to get away from the brotherhood.

Fallout lore is hanging out the window at this point, but the super mutants still looked quite bulky.

Probably Vault 87 mutants. I'm really hoping they fill the world with newer enemies, keeping things like the super mutants and deathclaws restricted to just a few areas. Those are a throwback to the original Fallout games and originated on the west coast. Throwing them in over and over again is a disservice to the lore.

Yeah seems like a lot of the stuff was redesigned to match up better with the classic Fallout games. Mutants, armor, vault suits, etc.

I've complained a lot about what I've seen in the trailer, but I gotta give them credit for the models.

It would certainly be possible for the remnants of the Master's army to reach the East Coast by now. Fighting through the Midwest Brotherhood would likely have slowed them down a bit, but not that much. Having said that, there has been a tendency to favor the Good Karma endings as canon in the Fallout Universe and if that hold true for Tactics, then the Mariposa SM's have probably found a home in Chicago and have no need to continue their migration.

Oh I'm not, and they are the precedent for Vault 87 mutants having intelligence, but I'm hoping that they don't feel the need to use the single mutant voice actor to voice them anyway. Very grating. The best part of the West Coast mutants is that the intelligent ones have seen over a hundred years of conflict and development, and have grown extremely wise. Fawkes and Uncle Leo did not have the same experiences, though they could eventually. I just hope they're not the only ones and there are similar characters, particularly well-traveled, who can join us as a companion. And with a unique voice.
