Umm, I already answered that question when you PMed me out of the blue and your asking me again <_<

All you said was 'a past interview'
If you happen to know a link or could remember more specifics that would also be really helpful as I can then google-search :)

I don't remember really, it was early 2000s.

As for going back on topic, I'm good with facepainting and tattoos. I'm looking forward to the extra customization.

Todd did say they were inspired by the bioshock's powers system, so your telekinesis idea might come true

But that's the point. They are trying to make you have the decision of what was more worth it to you to carry. If you cast your strongest feather spell and you still couldn't carry all your phat loots then you needed to choose. It removes any choice if you can just pick up everything and then teleport back to your house (which as I stated why this isn't a good idea) and then drop what you needed to move again, go sell it, come back and get the rest.

But if gamesas's consumers want it, then gamesas should provide it. We're the ones who are going to pay 60 bucks for the game so we want everything to be just right. If you don't want to teleport--don't teleport.

So after saying they don't like teleport[citation needed], they added teleporters in Frostcrag Spire? What?

The Mark and Recall spells would be cool, I agree, but I'd rather have some kind of ancient magic gate system (big crystals, swirling portals, or something like that). Especially if we'd have to quest to activate each of them!

Face paint was confirmed in one of the art videos, to what extent I don't know.

Mark and Recall in Morrowind were a GREAT feature in a game without "FT", but would be redundant with it, which is probably why they were removed. Personally, I thought that Recall should have had a severely high casting cost in MW, especially if Magicka had been given a painfully slow regen similar to that of enchanted items. Sure, you can use Recall any time you like, but with those restrictions it's going to be a while before you can do much of anything else. That would make it "near useless" for invading armies, because the prohibitive casting cost would require an army of Mystics to transport that army of troops, and the Mystics would then be useless in the battle itself, aside from any residual use as plain infantry.

Having Encumbrance increase the casting cost and/or difficulty would also put a damper on piling 10,000 weight units of stuff in one heap and then transporting out with the whole stack. It might allow you to take more than you'd normally be able to walk out with, if you're good at it, but not drastically more. That might also allow a "weak caster" to use Recall at lower levels, by dropping off most of their stuff and travelling light to ease the casting penalty. (The idea of spell failure in MW for doing something DIFFICULT is great, but MW didn't always allow you to make tasks less likely to fail by limiting your goals; there was, for example, no improvement in the odds of potionmaking for using novice apparatus to purposely attempt a weak potion instead of using master apparatus to try for a strong one.)

why don't they just teleport entire armies into enemy cities?

Because MARK and RECALL requires you to MARK before you can recall... and because you must have MARKED yourself before YOU can RECALL!!! And stuff like Divine intervention requirres a Divine intervention marker... so you could just throw your marker off a cliff and then cast a telekenises spell to keep it floating forever! More questions? :banghead:

People are going to do that either way. It just takes a slight bit longer to fast travel back to dungeon or wherever to get the rest. It's just an unnecessary annoyance. Mark and recall would be convenient. (Cue over the top exaggerations about something playing the game for me being more convenient)

Well Mark and Recall is somewhat useless with fast travel.

In Morrowind I placed my mark in areas where I needed to return often. So while I was doing work for a certain faction, I placed Mark in front of the quest giver to make for a quick return. When I did Daedric Shrine quests (usually in remote areas), I placed Mark infront of the shrine. Azura's quest made that pretty simple. Also, the Tribunal Temple quest with the oath of silence, I went to the shrine near Dagon Fell, placed a mark, then started the oath, and recalled to the shrine, then returned to Vivec. Made some aspects of the game simpler. With fast travel, you don't NEED that aspect because it takes the place of the spells in most cases.

As for face paint, YES!

Your "it was said in the past, but I'm not sure where" makes me think you might be remembering incorrectly.

Wasn't there teleportation in the novel? That came out last year?
But that's the point. They are trying to make you have the decision of what was more worth it to you to carry. If you cast your strongest feather spell and you still couldn't carry all your phat loots then you needed to choose. It removes any choice if you can just pick up everything and then teleport back to your house (which as I stated why this isn't a good idea) and then drop what you needed to move again, go sell it, come back and get the rest.

Maybe, but that's breaking the lore, because according to lore I should be able to up and teleport all my loot to my home.
Ok. Magic can have limits. It has been said in the past that teleport doesn't make since in the grand scheme for anyone to do willy nilly because otherwise, why don't they just teleport entire armies into enemy cities. So they removed references of teleportation from the game and they got rid of teleport. Gods can still teleport as is apparent in Oblivion but basically mortals are bound to portals now instead of going *poof* and your there.

No, because you have to mark and recall. It's not just "hey, I want to teleport inside that city" and then you're there. And even if you could get into the city first one person can only set one mark spell, which would only transport themselves. The mechanics of the system they have in place already stops you from teleporting entire armies, so that's not a valid criticism.

Did you even play Morrowind?

Fast travel won't allow us to travel to unmarked areas, now will it?

And on top of that fast travel won't take you directly into your house. Or back to the bottom of some deep temple. Fast travel only gets you into the general areas, a mark spell gets you right back to the exact spot you want to be.

Hey TES people, I would like to suggest some things that I think would be radical if they were in Skyrim.

Firstly I would like a Mark and Recall spell. It made Morrowind a bit shorter but it opened up possibilities to the player when they wanted to "just play around" in the game world.

Secondly, I thought it would be cool if you gave the player the decision to put face paint on the Nord and Dark Elf races (or anything else--I don't care)

Lastly, I would like objects that have been cast with a telekinesis spell to inflict damage on an enemy if the projectile hits them. Idk how difficult this would be to produce within the game engine, but you guys are smart--SO GET ON IT!!!1!

Verily Lastly, I wanted to thank all of you hard working people at Bethesda Softworks. Keep up the great work and customer satisfaction that makes you so phenomenal. Thanks for listening to your fans.

-Samuel

THIS THIS THIS THIS! I hated how in oblivion, telekinisis and item grabbing were useless. You could launch things, and nothing would happen. It svcked. Like, I could throw a sword or axe, and it bounces off the guy.

Portals =/= teleporting. Spontaneous teleporting is what they wanted removed, portals are still okay as you have seen in Oblivion with Frostcrag Spire, Oblivion gates and the Ayleid gates that occasionally were used such as with Peryite's quest.

Well seeing as how I have played every game starting with Arena, I would hope I have.... I'm quite aware of how "Mark and Recall" work but it doesn't make the fact of spontaneous teleportation any less real. All they need is some spy to walk into the city and mark a location and the clever mages can figure out how to teleport an army to that mark. I don't see why everyone is so gung-ho about getting back teleportation when you have fast travel now where your character walks to the location for you. Like I said, you need to be able to choose to what to carry instead of collecting a few tons of gear and then teleporting to your house that you marked and then having the pay day of your life.

I dont see any evidence of teleportation ever working like that.
All uses of teleportation both by us in-game and described in books is always one person, never two, let alone this 'whole army' you keep bringing up.

Secondly, its a rather weak argument for wanting to remove teleportation from the game.
Having these non-existent problems of 'whole armies' isnt an argument for not allowing the player to teleport at all.

Thirdly, that you do not understand why people are so 'gung ho' about it does not mean that people should all suddenly see reason and things your way and think 'good riddance'. We have a right to care about teleportation, and we also have the right to use teleportation to make the game that much more enjoyable to us.

Fourth, That you feel a game should not allow me to carry a lot of loot does not mean that I cannot feel that making three trips to one dungeon in order to haul my loot to town is utterly, totally and mindboggelingly tedious. And that I cannot feel that these little things like teleportation wich remove tedium so I have more time to enjoy the game are wonderful, and should be in Skyrim.

And by that you mean, have no inconsistency with the lore but you don't like them?

That's what it usually means when he throws that phrase out, so very likely yes. I mean, they were in one of the games, and it doesn't get much more "within the scope of lore" than that.

That would be stupid dude. Idk about you, but it felt like a pain in the ass to close every oblivion portal outside each city in Oblivion.

I liked Oblivion modded with mark and recall spells, and other types of teleport included in LAME.
It opens up not FT'ing when you can cast spells as a mage to loot dump, the massed dumps of loot you pick up.

Face paint and other markings would be great, just hopefully with plenty of variety.

I thought mysticism was out, however I hope all spells start to have other uses, even if subtle.

Again, if you want to fast-travel, do it; if you want to be fully immersed, do that. But don't tread on other people's ideas because "you don't think it fits the lore".

A daedric intervention spell might be fun, teleporting you to the nearest daedric shrine of the associated daedra, next to a bunch of angry orc worshippers.

Yes....that's what I'm doing... I guess BGS is trolling too because they said they don't like teleportation either... There is still teleportation in Oblivion and I'm sure Skyrim but all of it is always a Daedric Prince that does it to you, which is within the realm of a god. Now, you can teleport a very short distance using the incredibly powerful dragon language. If dragonshouts, this language that is more powerful than any spell a mortal can get ahold of only teleports you a short way, how can a spell you wield teleport you anywhere?

I think..
I think thats its just you thats going out of their way to validate something that does not need it.
I think that you are the only one who leaps stretches to declare things non canon.

Look, there really is no need for an overriding place in lore. It just makes the game better.
End of. (Or should be.)
