Marksman and Stealth, Hunter and the Thief

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 1:00 pm

Ok. This thread is a request thread for basically all the best mods that can accomplish the following:

  • Provide a more realistic Marksman Experience
  • Help provide a good Hunter and Theif experience (note that I have several mods that go towards this goal already, will explain below)
  • Enhance the economy to the point where I could realistically play out someone whose trying to actually live a normal life, using hunted game to provide for my monetarial needs
  • Provide the best "hardcoe" experience. IE, having to eat, drink sleep, etc
  • Enhance the stealth system
  • Overhaul the crime system. (this isn't necessary, but if theres anything really good a thits out there...)

Now, I do know of a couple mods that can help accomplish some of these things but because I've been out of the Oblivion modding loop for quite some time I'm not really sure whats gotten better and what might be obsolete as of now.

Now, the mods I do have include:

-WAC (So I really don't need any item or monster mods)
-Natural Weather (am considering All Natural, so some suggestions to this would be nice)
-Deadly Reflex (so whatever is suggested should be compatable with this)
-COBL
-nGCD
-tejons Bare Necessities (Roughing It. I tried it out and while it works for my purposes, if there is something better, well you know)

Combar Archery, no doubt about this one.

[*]Help provide a good Hunter and Theif experience (note that I have several mods that go towards this goal already, will explain below)
I think others can answer better here...

[*]Enhance the economy to the point where I could realistically play out someone whose trying to actually live a normal life, using hunted game to provide for my monetarial needs
Not sure exactly what you're after, but I guess the answer is my Enhanced Economy mod ;) It can be tweaked (through an ini file) to make the economy be as difficult or easy you want, with lots of features and options.

[*]Provide the best "hardcoe" experience. IE, having to eat, drink sleep, etc
There are lots to choose from here. I'm of course fond of my own Real Sleep Extended, which is the most-used sleep mod (by a good margin, I think). It has lots of options, and is (AFAIK) the only sleep mod where it matters where and when you sleep, what kind of character you play (some are better suited to sleep outside than inside and vice versa), etc. It can be used with Bare Necessities if you disable the sleep component there, but is otherwise often used with Real Thirst and Real Hunger.

[*]Enhance the stealth system
Take a look at Sneaking Detection Recalibrated

[*]Overhaul the crime system. (this isn't necessary, but if theres anything really good a thits out there...)
You of course have Renee's Guard Overhaul...

Hmm, questions about the Combat Archery mod.

Would it work with Deadly Reflex and would basically any bow and arrows from any mod work?

The other mods look spot on.

Hey, you and Todd Howard have something in common besides just being great programmers!

Combar Archery, no doubt about this one.

Basic Primary Needs has adopted some of those things, with modifiers based on indoors/outdoors, bed quality, and whether you're following the character's normal sleeping patterns (although I'm not entirely clear how that last one is calculated). It doesn't have explicit class or stat-based adjustments, though.

Since you already have COBL, apart from Real Sleep Extended by TNO, I would say, Real Hunger and Real Thirst COBL version would fit right in you daily life (Real Thirst COBL require the original real thirst mod tho) These 2 mods takes advantage of COBL. Any food by recognizable by COBL can satisfy your hunger, and most well and water barrel is a source of water. Real Thirst IIRC also allows you to camp outside with portable tents as well, with buyable water keg so you really can camp out in the wilderness.

You have WAC and not looking for more, but I really like to suggest you to look at MMM, as it also have hunting and crafting, so besides hunting for meats, you get to craft armors too for sale. Together with Enhanced Economy (also by TNO) I think it makes a good mod combination for what you look to achieve.

You might want to take a look at Thievery in the Imperial City for the thief aspect: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5156

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9655 is an amusing and clever mod that, while it doesn't actually change any of the fundamental gameplay mechanics for stealth, allows for a much more "thief-y" feeling to robbery.

Another plug for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37088#fileanchor It has support for Cobl, Let the People Drink and Roughing It and is highly configurable via ini. It recognises food items that are flagged as such in the CS. Other ingredients give a lesser amount of nutrition (configurable in the ini, default 50%) and so is compatible with any mod-added food that is correctly flagged including Cobl items.

One of his mods that TNO didn't mention ( ;) ) that would be useful is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26389, especially the ability to add your own markers.

i also recomend combat archery which now includes the mod actors can miss now though i do not use deadly reflexes so i cant comment on compatablity ( but i do know its worked so far with any mod that i have which adds bows and arrows.)

the 3 main realism mods i use are real hunger and real thirst cobl and the bathing mod.

i also play a char who enjoys making a living by hunting and crafting. so I also use crafty bits and Fishing in Cyrodiil ( which includes alive waters )
Put it in its Place - Enhanced Grabbing making shop owners more intelligent with reguards to handling items in shops as well as many other features.

i also use all natural that you mentioned you were thinking about and enjoy it alot it also comes with a recomended mods list in its read me for quite a few more options of related mods which are compatable and add immersion enhancements such as storms and sounds which include lighting strikes
using all natural also enables you to then use immersive interiors.

I use Deadly Reflex 5 and combat Archery without a problem. I did also try Deadly Reflex 6, the denock arrow from combat archery( point the arrow to the ground) did not always work, the result was quite often shooting myself into the foot, a critical hit which caused me to fall down. :D Since I had several other problems with Deadly Reflex 6, I've returned to 5 for the moment.

should be noted though that you dont have to have deadly reflexes installed to shoot yourself in the foot when deknocking an arrow using combat archery .
ive only done it once which hopefully was enough to learn my lesson.

For best marksman experience I recommend Duke Patrick's Combat Archery. For best Melee Experience I recommend Duke Patrick's Melee Combat, For Sneaking, Sneaking Detection Recailbrated is by far the best their is.

For Food, Sleep and Drink I use Basic Primary Needs. Seems like this mod is updated every couple of day's or so, so definitely keep checking on it as it's continuously adding more features but this mod is by far the best mod for food support and doesn't require COBL, extremely recommended but I also use it with Real Sleep Extended and disable the sleeping part of the mod so I can have portable bedrolls. Also I recommend Camping to go along with it and one mod I extremely recommend is Duke Patricks Hypothermia II which lets your character get cold and hot.

For some excellent mod recommendations you should head over to Arwins site, http://amito.freehostia.com/Oblivion/OB-mods.htm
