Marriage, but no brothel?

The world's oldest proffession is hunting/gathering food, which we have done since we first became heterotrophic organisms.

You didn't get paid to hunt and gather, you had to do it to survive.

Am I the only one that finds the idea of a brothel more appealing than marriage? Perhaps its the fact that I've been married, or the idea that in a game there aren't any real consequences, but I'd rather not be monogamous...

It actually would make more sense in a game where your primary goal is going on quests. You wouldn't have time to get married and look after a wife when you have a land to save but you could indulge yourself in pleasures other than what a regular tavern would provide.

I don't think a brothel would be appropriate but that is just me and well... the mod community is pretty impressive.

Watch this space! :P

Why would Bethesda need to waste time making a brothel when there'll be a hundred variations on the theme in the next couple weeks?

I guess Skyrim is a very Puritan world? ... it does seem weird if it doesn't have any in the game at all tho. Not even an out of the way, hidden, password to get in one. But yeah...if you want that sort of thing, and you're going to play on PC, there's always the mods.

I see no reason TES wouldn't have brothels. I mean aren't prostitution guilds a part of the lore?... So why not have it in game? If done tastefully, it would add to the overall feel of the world, and make it feel more realistic.

Why would the Devs put in something 'controversial' that might harm sales when - as some here have pointed out - the modding community will have it done in a week or two after release anyway?

I would point out that this game already has other potential controversial things in it namely relating to violence and the marrige thing. However I think it is a well known fact that across the video game industry six in graphic detail or things with nudity/sixual references, overt sixual nature are unacceptable and the media jump on this fast, which would be very bad publicity for Bethesda because some people mainly irresponsible parents would listen to this and go on a crusade about why their kid has to play this game when they don't realise it is meant to be a 15/18 in most places. The last example was hypothetical.

I doubt it would be that much extra effort on Bethesda's part and besides, not everyone who wants a brothel plays on the PC. I, myself, play on a console so mods are out of the question for me.

There are orphanages in Skyrim, so apparently you can adopt children.

Haha, great post! I am with you on this one all the way! Marriage LOL! Brothels FTW! Although if we can get married I will probably try it out since its just a game. It is just a game right?

The game wouldn't sell nearly as much as an M rating if it had an advlt rating. It's about money and politics. Bethesda wants to make a profit and they also don't want to upset the multitude of soccer moms out there whose kids may be playing this game.

I don't think people should worry about the rating. Dragon Age (both games) had brothels in them and it didn't effect the rating.

Filthy hokers wandering the streets in MY game? No thank you.

You horny furless instinct-driven apes will have to resort to instinct-driven ape mods by instinct-driven ape modders.

Us superior intelligent gentlechaps who have the ability to feel true love will be treating our superior intelligent gentlewives like queens while you throw your instinct-driven female apes you don't even care about down the wooden stairs.

Hehe, Suran, the Vegas of Vvardenfell. If you have it on PC, its just a matter of time before such a mod comes out...fully animated too. I could do without the latter, but a brothel or at least some sleezy bar wenches would do fine in the game. It would be quite common in a land where every disease can be cured by a bottle of liquid.

A brothel wouldn't effect the rating. Anybody who has played Duke Nukem knows that shows everything and it only has and M rating.

Hopefully if Skyrim has a brothel/club/etc, it will be executed a bit more effectively. The dancing was so...awkward. :intergalactic:

If I had to guess, I would say a brothel is pretty certain to be included.

(From Eurogamer) As the game progresses, the dialogue and on-screen text contains references to sixual material (e.g., ". . . all the [censored]s your heart, or any other organ, desires,"

In a dark themed environment like Skyrim, I find it hard to imagine the devs not including some gritty elements.

After all the rating does mention sixual themes (not POV bone-jumping). The rating also does not mention any nudity.

Modding is a nice feature but not all things should have to be modded to be in the game.

I see no need for brothels.

On the other hand I would like to see 'persons of negotiable affection' in the taverns, with a couple of upstairs rooms available. The taverns should be for wine, women and song.
