Marriage, but no brothel?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:19 pm

Remember Hot Coffee? The Games industry does.

Seems like a waste of effort for the Devs. It adds very little to the game: what would be the benefits - or penalties - for going to one? What does it add to the game to give your character the clap? For a cheap thrill and "Wow, you can do that?" moment, the title would have to run the gauntlet of content laws and regulations and probably add another ratings point in half the countries it's sold in. It could end up on news items and generate bad publicity and they'd lose sales to the teenage market whose parents won't pay for such entertainment. More trouble than it's worth IMO.

Agreed. The most they could get away with would be prostitution similar to that of New Vegas. And really the prostitution in New Vegas was pointless. I'd much rather have the developers focus their resources on other things. Besides I'd nearly guarantee some lonely person is going to mod a brothel asap. Along with "boob physics".

Am I the only one who finds it rather sad that people actually want a "brothel" in a VIDEO GAME. Really?

I think most people (mind you, MOST) want it more for immersion, and less for OTHER reasons.

It seems to be uncommon to actually read previous posts for the main part. Most people who stated that they wouldn't mind it, never asked for a porm like appearance of a brothel. It was often enough about the idea of diversity, lore, and gameplay options, Y'ffre pointing it out best in my opinion.

I don't see why there's such a backlash against including prostitution. It's not controversial...or can't be anymore than the game letting you marry the same-six, and we all know how much of a [censored]storm that's going to unleash in some circles. "Dem games maken our keds six-deviants" and all that, touching nothing on the decapitations, stabbing, political corruption, or war that's going smother the game like a wet towel. It's the world's oldest profession, and it's lore. Almost every tavern in the middle ages had some soiled doves here and there be it an official brothel or not. Remember the mission in the Flowing Bowl in Oblivion, or how the Courtesans in Assassin's Creed were your eyes and ears? That wasn't uncommon. Neither the thievery that followed for that matter. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised that the Thieves Guild and the Courtesans guild were one and the same.

It fits the setting and the story. You want some dirt on a local man? Talk to his call girl or male escort. Want to assassinate or steal someone? Convince his consort to do so. Need a place to meet for "not-so-legal" business? The [censored]house is your cloister. There's a reason why a simple concubine in China became the Empress Wu Zetien. prosttutes literally sleep with power all the time, and they've always had a toe in politics. Aside from development time and all that technical...stuff, I can't see why brothels can't be in the game.

And those who play on the PC will get their steamy scenes eventually, because it will simply be one of the mods that is inevitable. Whoever enjoys it - why the hell not? Let them! If you don't - nobody forces you to install it. And even if it has been implemented ('cause I think it has been confirmed in any way) nobody forces you to go inside. If you wanna stick with the principals that you don't want to deal with prosttutes (and why the hell not, they are just people as well, and yes I am referring to the real life at the moment) then don't finish certain quests or avoid them.
I just don't see how it should not fit in or is not appropriate? You have a world full of soldiers (male and female), of fights, of cold weather, of drinking and slaughtering, desperation and pain, but the simple idea that to relax, someone might search for physical warmth and delight is so out of the way? Someone that will listen outside the company of comrades and make you feel more homely? As far as I remember that has been a real life study that says six helps to relax - oh my, did I actually name the horrible s-word?! From my point of view it just seems so odd that the possible existence of a brothel in a game is such an issue, when you can cut off the head or limps of equally pixeled character as much as you want.

I ought to stop replying to this.

[Edit:]
And to the newest comments, I do like to roleplay my game - even it is already a roleplaying game! And yes, there will be character who will make a wide berth around a potential brothel, but there will also be those who find it homely. It's the simple idea of getting out of your own real skin and choose a different one.

Worry not, I am positive that there will be a plethora of modding to that effect.

How is this non-violent want any worse than the crowds that want graphic blood and gore, and still complained when there was "only" beheadings? I don't think the game needs brothels, but I think they are a heck of a lot more mild than on screen decapitation.

The game wouldn't sell nearly as much as an M rating if it had an advlt rating. It's about money and politics. Bethesda wants to make a profit and they also don't want to upset the multitude of soccer moms out there whose kids may be playing this game.

I don't think the game needs them, but they would not get the game an advlt rating.

I see many people claiming there will be mods for this within a couple weeks. I doubt that. Don't most serious modding efforts take months, and sometimes years? I don't think the game needs it, but regardless I doubt mods would pop up that quickly, not well crafted ones at least.

This so much. I don't think the game needs it, however it boggles my mind that some clamor for being able to see people get ripped to shreds while acting as if there's something wrong with the people that don't mind more graphic content of a decidedly less violent nature. And as you said, graphic stuff is not what this thread is about anyway. I brought up the classic "Paint Your Wagon" earlier. Its main plot revolves around a brothel and they showed us that in middle school.

This.

Sometimes I think the mod community can go a little far with things of this nature. I don't want it to be all about six, but rather a dark and shady hub for characters with darker stories and quest lines. I simply find that far more desirable than finding a spouse in this game. I've just never felt like marriage was something that was missing. There were not enough places/characters in oblivion that fit in with the rogue character.

It would not be an A rating

Dragon Age had them and I don't even want to tell you what The Witcher 2 had and it was still rated M.

I like how brutally chopping the heads off people in America is seen as more acceptable than willing, proud, hard working women wanting to do the most natural thing in the world for a fee. They don't have to include pimps, trafficking and drug abuse, you know. Could be a luxurious brothel but a bit outside of the law, perhaps hidden away in a posh villa somewhere in the countryside.

six is natural, we all like boobs, face it.

This. Having a Mid-Evil fantasy game with heads being loped off and no brothel is like having a GTA game without hokers you just feel something is missing.

You can't tell me in a world like this they're no brothels. Hell even BG 2 had them and it was rated T and made in the 90s.

Filthy hokers wandering the streets in MY game? No thank you.

You horny furless instinct-driven apes will have to resort to instinct-driven ape mods by instinct-driven ape modders.

Us superior intelligent gentlechaps who have the ability to feel true love will be treating our superior intelligent gentlewives like queens while you throw your instinct-driven female apes you don't even care about down the wooden stairs.

Pretentious much? I kid, but seriously.

You think its gentlemanly and sophisticated to wander around the mountain slaughtering people and stealing their gold, but making love isn't?

Like I said previously, a prosttute doesn't have to be a homeless drug-addicted wreck, and a man or woman who enjoys six doesn't have to be scum.

That's kinda ridiculous. WHY and WHY?

ya, play other games. Skyrim does not need it. Kinda... stupid. The game is not made for this.

That was my first thought too, I was definitely told "this is a bunkhouse, not an inn". Then there's the girl who tells you how she was basically forced to work there after she was orphaned, and the fact that the owner worships Dibella. Maybe the OP means one where you see the women being bent over when you walk in the door, or are able to do the bending yourself or something.
If that was to be in, then it would make sense in Riften as opposed to anywhere else.

This is only a game!! I play it for killing people, stealing and training my abilities as a gamer. And for, of course, explore the game at MAX.

Do you really want a brothel? GO FOR IT in real life, dude. No, seriously. It's logical. What's the fun about it in the games? Or even what's the point?

Want to love? Love truely someone, not a bunch-o'-bytes. For shor's bones!

Immersion. Whats the point of seeing a guys head get cut off? If Majority of people didn't want that in games it wouldn't be in any GTA, Witcher or any Bioware game , but they are and there's a reason for it.

I was surprised there were no brothels in the game, with this being a medievil themed M rated game it doesn't make much sense.
