Marshall-Alternate Firing Mode?

Hello, I noticed when I press 2 (PC) my Marshall has a tighter hip-spread, and the icon appears to have a closer grouped shot. Is this like a flechette round? I haven't noticed any significant change to its ability at all. What does it do?

They reintroduced this? It allowed longer range firing(less spread but slightly less damage) in Crysis

That's what it appeared to be for me. However, I can hardly tell any difference at all. The range seems exactly the same.
