I'd like to extend a real thankyou to everyone in these forums who have all been so helpful, especially Tom.

It looks like you are getting the hang of things, congrats! There are still a few changes you need to make.

MMM: Remove the MMM ESP, not the MMM for OOO ESP. The latter is the main ESP plugin for MMM+OOO.
Natural Environments: Natural Habitat is okay, but the rest of the mod has a few bugs and is just generally outdated. Trade Natural Vegetation for http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23783. Regarding Natural Weather (NW) get one of the fixed versions of NW or try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305 instead. It incorporates a the most popular weather mods, so you could use the NW option. Also, please read mods' ReadMes. Usually, when a mod contains plugins XXX and XXX_YY (ie., NW and NW_HDR) you are supposed to choose ONE of the two. That is just a sanity check. Read ReadMes for mods you are unfamiliar with.
IWR: This mod is made obsolete by http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19628. There are a number of different texture packs you can choose from, including Illumination Within textures (which I use.) The mods I have just linked are all OMOD ready. If you go with the NW fixed plugin, it may need the original mod, Natural Weather, to be installed. Read the ReadMe. ;)

Earlier, I posted instruction for how to get the bashed patch. You may not need it now, but it would not hurt to leave it in your "Data" folder.

Everything's golden. The one thing I would change is the leveling rate. The old version of OOO I had came with something called Level_Slow.esp. Is there anything like that I can use in combination with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13879, MMM, and OOO?

I just managed to spend about 30 gold on food and get my Alchemy level up by 10 points, in about 4 minutes. : /

Oh, I thought I recommended http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14304 to you. I do not know why the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26288 is on a different page, but look into this one too. I use the merc add-on you will see in the "downloads" section of the main mod's page too. The big overhauls really make skill progression slowdown attractive. If you were using nGCD, I could tell you how to tweak that mod to help with the slow down too, but you should ask in ABO's thread about suggested settings for MMM+OOO. Remember to let them know you will be using Progress because you do not want progress (no pun intended) to come to a halt. I use all of the optional Progress modules except for Speed Based Skill Progress, so I use: Armorer, Merc, Global Slowdown (GSD), Range-Based Skill Progression (RBSP), and Magic-Based Skill Progression (MBSP.) You should use the recommended INI settings for OOO. When you install Progress, I think you will find a tempate INI (in the subfolder "_tejon") with "(OOO)" in the name. Copy that and rename it to "Progress.ini," replacing the original. If I am confusing it with nGCD's INI, then near the top of the Progress INI file it should list across recommended INI setting for x1, x3, x5, etc. That is, x3 [b]slower[/i]. OOO's default is x3, so you should probably use that setting. The number is 0.74xxx. (I think there is an 8 somewhere...maybe that's the second digit.) Well, I hope you've got the picture. Install Progress. It is compatible with your load order, and almost anything you would think to stick in it. Once installed, do not bother with any skill rate plugins. Progress can be tweaked to mimic any of them. For the optional modules, read the INI files to find out what they are about. Progress' main page may have the information to, or it did at some point.

Okay, I installed Progress and deactivated the others. Now about 30 seconds into the game it freezes and crashes.

I'm probably doing something severely basic. (note: I'm still using IWR and Natural Environs because they run fine and aren't doing anything bad and I'm running out of steam for figuring new mods out)

Without exception the Oblivion esm must load first.
Move the Progress esm to last in your list of master files.

You did not rerun BOSS. You definitely do not want the Oblivion.esm file loading anywhere other than first. (Delinquent master means a some mods master is loading after it. You will see orange check marks indicating this status. Red boxes stand for missing master. Unless, the plugin with the missing master has a "filter" tag, that is worse. Your game will certainly crash. Lastly, make sure to turn of "lock times" want BOSS to change your load order, which is what you want most of the time. ;))

Also, sometimes it takes time for bugs to show up, and it s better to catch them early. Why put your computer at risk? The buggy module is the Natural Weather plugin. I suggest AWLS only because it is more current and more optimized. If you do not see an immediate difference in FPS when you try to load say...the med version of AWLS, you have a nice computer. IWR mainly hits you in the cities, and if you do not know what this setup runs like without it, just try deactivating IWR and running the game. However, I understand your impatience. Spending 99% of your time fixing installations, including your own (like me) is not the way to play, for sure.

Ah, perfect response, thanks. You're right about the bugs, but I'm somewhat worried I'll become even *more* confused while installing/uninstalling all these other mods. But I'll give it a try: better to do it now, than end up with a bugged-out save game or laggy system later.

EDIT: Okay, I installed All Natural, ran Boss with Lock Times off. It fixed my load order for Progress. AN is now loading before MMM or OOO, which I'm assuming is correct?

With Enhanced Vegetation, when I create the OMOD, no files show up on the list before I hit "Create." However, it does take a few minutes to load, and it says "Omod created successfully".

Then Enhanced Vegetation OMOD has a red square, and I'm worried about activating it.

EDIT 2: Okay, everything so far seems to be loading okay. I haven't been able to check Progress'... progress, so to speak... Everything looks much nicer, but I've only tested interiors. If I can now get Enhanced Veg to work, I'll be in the bizzo.

So in OBMM I have a red-squared EV-high res textures 1.1, and a green EV Plugins 1.1 file. What do I do now? Do I need to install these with Bash instead?

EDIT 3: Okay, I used Wrye to install them like a non-insane person, drank some more coffee and everything is golden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f71VqFgwPy4I'll keep you posted if anything changes.

I am glad things are going well. What is EV? The red squares in OBMM indicate data file conflicts, green indicates no conflicts, black indicates plugin conflicts (and could include data file conflicts) and blue indicates an OMOD is installed. I believe Enhanced Vegetation--Oooh "EV," haha--is BAIN-ready. If you use OBMM's convert to archive function, in BAIN you should see subpackages named by the different timescales. Unless you changed yours, the default is 30. Then you just need to select the intensity of vegetation. If you do not see the folders in that arrangement, open up the archive. There might be a second folder within. When you find the group of folders I am referring to, highlight them all, put them into an archive, and put it back up in the Bash Installers folder.

Excellent, it works just fine. The only issue I'm facing now is that I never see the message "Progress Initialized" after starting a new game or loading an old save.

From the Progress readme,
IMPORTANT
---------
When starting or loading a game with Progress active, wait a few seconds before
doing anything. Once you see "Progress Initialized" at the top of the screen,
your settings are in place and any real-time options are active. Any actions
taken before this message will cause no advancement, and viewing the character
sheet before initialization will show incorrect progress for your skills.

So this MMM Overhaul mod looks on the surface like a good one.

Anybody have experience gettting this mod to work perfectly in conjunction with OOO?

LATER EDIT: The sub of this thread says "more trouble than they're worth?" The answer, as I've recently discovered, is a resounding No! My great aggravation was soon quelled with the help of forum folk.

This thread has helped me get Mart's Monster Mod, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Enhanced Vegetation, All Natural, Zumb's Lockpicking Mod, Progress (leveling mod), Realistic Fatigue, Kyomo's Journal Mod, and several other mods to work together, from a severely basic understanding of modding. This took a few hours but, so far, has completely changed the game for the better.

If you are like me - lacking even a basic knowledge of mod programs - would like to do something similar, follow these kind people's advice.


Congratulations on getting everything working with the mighty powers that be of the Forums :foodndrink: I've been using mods since 2002 when MORROWIND came out and even earlier for FPS shooters like UNREAL TOURNAMENT and QUAKE 3 ARENA and it has only gotten easier. I can understand your frustration though sometimes it gets a bit tricky. For me its worth it and i also enjoy the original modless game(s) so its easy to take a break and not feel like am missing anything while i recollect myself :D

I remember, after my first mod-splurge in Oblivion I went back and played the Vanilla game. It felt completely different. Those subtle changes really alter the sum experience. Morrowind was the same way. Of course, at one point, I'd only play the game for about five minutes and then run off looking for more mods, until I had so many I didn't know what to do.

"Oh, man! I wonder if they have a mod that does such and such! I better go check it out!"

Eventually I'd get it to a stable point (like I've gotten with Oblivion thanks to Tom) and just enjoy the game.

I am glad to hear that you are feeling more comfortable with installation. There are many different types of mods out there that require a wide array of installation processes, so do not worry yourself if you continue to have some trouble. Comfort and patience will have you well-equipped.

Tejon is on a long holiday, but before he went he realized that he had inadvertently removed the "Progress Initializing" message from the latest version of the mod. Nothing is deficient. It's just that the readme doesn't reflect reality in this instance. Nothing to worry about.

Maybe I could have some kind of alien species on another planet that lives in harmony with nature, and I go to them pretending to learn about Mods when really I'm working undercover to infiltrate them for the human military, who wants to destroy them...but eventually I see the beauty of Modding and decide to fight against the very force I was originally working for...

This idea is genius, and it's all miiiiiine! See you at the Oscars... :flamethrower:

EDIT: Anyone have any tips for a good merchant mod? I'm thinking Living Economy, but it's an older one, and I'm not sure if anyone knows of an upgrade...?

I hope that it's okay that I'm posting in here. I need help with my MMM+OOO setup and thought this might be a good place for it as I see there are many helpful people looking at this thread. I didn't see a general help thread or anything, and didn't want to start a new one. I hope I'm not hijacking the thread. I apologize if this is poor etiquette.

I just want to make sure that I'm doing everything correctly, particularly where the bashed patch is concerned. I asked for help in the Wrye Bash thread and hopefully I'm doing it the right way. It doesn't look like I am, though, because at character creation I can't choose different hairstyles. This makes me think I'm doing it wrong. That's the only problem I run into but I also want to make sure this is the proper way to do things so I don't have anything mess up down the road.

I run BOSS and keep the log file open. I go into Wrye Bash and disable esp's as per BOSS' instructions. I rebuild the bashed patch as following:
  • I put a check next to "Merge Patches" and only check "Mart's Monster Mod - Resized Races.esp" as per the instructions given in the BOSS log file.
  • I put a check next to every "Import" and for each of those put a check next to every esp listed.
  • I put a check next to "Leveled Lists" and leave it alone (with "Automatic" checked)
  • I do a few preferred tweaks in the "Globals" and "Tweaks" sections.
  • I click OK and build the patch.

That all leaves me with this mod list.

EDIT: I'm currently using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30093 as a mod to skip the initial dungeon, but it seems to make a lot of unnecessary changes to the environment for just being a tutorial skipper. Does anyone know one that successfully skips the dungeon without breaking the main quest line?

EDIT 2: I wanted to use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5957 but it's been removed from TESNexus and it says that "better alternatives" exist now. Which one should I use? I did a search and they all seem a bit dated so I don't know which one to go with.

I looked into that, and it's actually called the same thing, just version 2. Google "Expanded Hotkeys V2" and you'll find it. (note: I tried it and it crashed several times, so I'm not using it).

Expanded Hotkeys was fine when I was using it, but the newer alternatives are Uncommon Controls and SuperHotkeys. I think SuperHotkeys is the best at the moment, but STHotkeys was just released. It sounds similar to SuperHotkeys, but I will probably try it out myself in the future. I say go with superhotkeys, but you may want to check the new one out as well.

I think it is fine that you posted here, but you can always post in either the MMM or OOO threads about MMM+OOO.

First of all, the AN instructions are very explicit about not requiring the original mods. Remove Enhanced Weather and use the AN EW option instead. Remove Darker Nights. If you have OBSE, use the Darker Nights option in the AN INI; otherwise, use one of its optional modules. Absolutely do NOT use multiple weather mods. You should avoid overlapping mods in your load altogether unless it is explicitly mentioned in a mod's description that it can be used together with certain other mods of the same type. Choose ONE of the Rolling Hills plugins, with or without wheat. Reinstall BC, you have duplicate Cheydinhal falls plugins. If you use BC FULL, use the full version, else use the other version. Get rid of the MMM - resized races plugin, unless you do not like the changes RBP makes. Also, I am positive that more of the plugins in your load order can be merged. For example, all of the Harvest [Flora] optional modules and some of Supreme Magicka's should be merged and unchecked. Upgrade SM while you make these changes. There is no reason to have old versions of those plugins. Vaults of Cyrodiil is REPLACED by the BC version. Remove the original plugin.

I will stop here. What are you using to install these mods? Your load order is full of installation errors. Please read the mods' ReadMes. Post your load order again after you have tried a hand at fixing it. If it is correct, I do not see any reason why that load order would not work. It is pretty simple, and I do not see anything missing.

I run BOSS and keep the log file open. I go into Wrye Bash and disable esp's as per BOSS' instructions. I rebuild the bashed patch as following:
  • I put a check next to "Merge Patches" and only check "Mart's Monster Mod - Resized Races.esp" as per the instructions given in the BOSS log file.
  • I put a check next to every "Import" and for each of those put a check next to every esp listed.
  • I put a check next to "Leveled Lists" and leave it alone (with "Automatic" checked)
  • I do a few preferred tweaks in the "Globals" and "Tweaks" sections.
  • I click OK and build the patch.

  • You should actually close the BOSS log after it generates, because it doesn't actually reorder the mods until you do. Then, you can open it back up. It's in Oblivion\Data, entitled bosslog.txt.
  • I think you are misunderstanding the BOSS instructions regarding merging. All mergable mods (text displays as green in the modlist and they appear in the bashed patch merge mods option screen) can be safely merged into the bashed patch. You should check all of them, not just MMM resized races.
Everything else Tomlong said is true, too. Regarding the UL with and without wheat and the Better Cities duplication, you may have missed a BOSS instruction.

Is this a feature of 1.5? I rarely close the BOSS log before checking my load order. Plus, my default text file handler is Notepad++. I usually have other tabs open in it, and since I run BOSS so frequently, I would hardly waste time closing the tab. I do not think that that matters.

Edit: I forgot to mention the hair choosing problem. When your bashed patch is rebuilt properly, with RBP checked in the race changes (hair and eyes) everything should be fine on that count. I think the conflict that caused that problem was because of the MMM Resized Races plugin. You can certainly use it if you want, but make sure RBP's contents are imported as well. However, I really suggest checking out RBP's race changes (including size changes) first, before adding an additional conflicting mod.

I'm using OBMM to install my mods. I knew I should have deleted EW, I just completely missed it. I removed Darker Nights, chose one of the Rolling Hills plugins, deleted the original Vaults of Cyrodiil, and got rid of the MMM resized races plugin. I'm also going to give SuperHotkeys a try.

Nice catch on the duplicate compatibility patches. It turns out they are automatically added both by the BC OMOD and the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21496. This happened with Chorrol Hinterland, Barrowfields, and Skingrad Outskirts as well as Cheydinhal. Having different esp names really confuses the issue. Since the UL Compatibility Patches were uploaded more recently, I deleted the ones that came with BC.

Now that I merged my plugins, which changes will take priority? Is it based on the load order at the time of building the bashed patch? For example, sigil stones are changed by both SM and LAME and I have SM's loading last. Also, is it okay that all of these changes will be loading last in the mod list rather than their intended order?

And finally.. The optional plugins come from the latest version (0.90 Beta 3) of SM's OMOD-ready archive. Looks like the author forgot to update the version in the individual esp files (my guess).
