Martigen's Monster Mod + Ooo?

Post » Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:03 pm

So this MMM Overhaul mod looks on the surface like a good one.

Anybody have experience gettting this mod to work perfectly in conjunction with OOO?

LATER EDIT: The sub of this thread says "more trouble than they're worth?" The answer, as I've recently discovered, is a resounding No! My great aggravation was soon quelled with the help of forum folk.

This thread has helped me get Mart's Monster Mod, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Enhanced Vegetation, All Natural, Zumb's Lockpicking Mod, Progress (leveling mod), Realistic Fatigue, Kyomo's Journal Mod, and several other mods to work together, from a severely basic understanding of modding. This took a few hours but, so far, has completely changed the game for the better.

If you are like me - lacking even a basic knowledge of mod programs - would like to do something similar, follow these kind people's advice.

Edit: Removed part about rudeness after opening post was edieted.

Having said, that, OOO and MMM works fine together. If you install OOO first, and then use the MMM omod installer (follow the link in my sig), installing MMM correctly together with OOO is easy.

MMM and OOO makes for an awesome combo. Check out http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1075204-relzmartsmonstermod37b3-public-release-3-relz/ for the latest release, install instructions etc.

Hm, it's not a good idea to have that attitude IMO. The creators have put in 1000's of hours on the mod. That said, MMM and OOO makes for an awesome combo. Check out http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1075204-relzmartsmonstermod37b3-public-release-3-relz/ for the latest release, install instructions etc.

I apologize. It's been...annoying. Plus it's morning and I don't have mah coffee. :shakehead:

I think the mod looks very excellent. I'm just having real trouble figuring the installation process out with this tiny simian brain.

So I've downloaded the Mart'sMonsterMod30.bsa file. Do I just activate it in OMOD, make sure it's loaded after OOO, and that's it?

Then why don't you edit your opening post and start over?

I have run OOO and MMM together in my game for a couple of years, through various upgrades and so on. I found the instructions for both pretty easy to follow. But then, I am in the habit of reading the readme and instructions for any mod installation - usually helps me figure out what I need to do. And once you get the major mods in, use BOSS and check the bulk of your mod load order to ease further pain down the road.

I just activated the MMM mod in OMM, chose the options, and launched the game. Instant CTD.

What's wrong? Do I need to change the load order?

I'm using OBSE, OOO and a few other mods.

Apparently I'm using OOO version 1.3. I'm going to attempt to upgrade it to 1.33 and see what happens. I'm missing an .esm file that should load before the MMM one.

Hi albertine,
from your last question i understand that the problem is not MMM + OOO but the fact that you don't have read enough MMM and OOO manual. You've to change load order (is VERY important) and maybe bash your patch. My suggestion is to use in conjuction with FCOM and also read read read ....
before posting ....

I run with FCOM installed -- which includes MMM and OOO, among other mods. It requires some substantial effort (homework) to gather together all the pieces and to install FCOM (as well as OOO + MMM). However, once you manage to get the whole thing up and running, the results are more than worth the effort. The number of items, creatures and OTHER features added to your game is simply staggering (to say the least). The world feels more "real," and more dynamic at the same time. If you haven't played with OOO and/or MMM, you are missing out. In my view, MMM + OOO is currently the pinnacle of the modded Oblivion experience.

I do note that my FCOM set up is a bit out of date. There have been substantial and wonderful changes to MMM since I last sat down and focused on building a better Oblivion game for myself. Development of MMM appears presently to be very active, and I am eager to experience the latest features. Based on past experience, I am confident that once I put forth the effort of learning how to install and build an updated MMM game, I will be richly rewarded.

If you do install MMM + OOO, along with other mods, you will want to get and use BOSS (Better Oblivion Sorting Software) to assist in creating your load order, and you will want to acquire and learn to use Wyre Bash, as well as OBSE. I fought acquiring and learning to use these tools for a long time; however, once I gave in and made the effort to install them properly, I realized how amazing modded Oblivion can be. It is a whole new, limitless experience. (You may already have these tools, and my post is directly generally, rather than specifically.)

(Heh....alot of posts while I was typing... you need Wyre Bash and BOSS.)

Regards,

Hem

Well, are any of your mods showing up as red in Wrye Bash? I don't know if that happens with OBMM, but a red file in Wrye Bash means Missing Master, which 10 times out of 10 can cause a CTD on game start. Well, save for a small section of mods out there, a missing master will crash your game on load.

If you haven't already done so, I'd install Wrye Bash, and build a bashed patch. Handy things, those are. Another thing you should do is Export your load order and post it in here.
Not overly hard, just right click on the files tab under Mods, and hit "List Mods...", which will not only open a thing so you can see them, but will also copy it into your clipboard so you can just paste it on this site with ease.

Right now I'm trying to get OOO updated from 1.3 to 1.33, because MMM needs that version.

However when I run the OOO Upsave OMOD program, it gives me an error message...working on it... (edited because I'm an idiot.)

Decompressing...

I'm reminded of the scene from total recall when the lady's head comes off for some reason.

You know...me coming into these mod forums is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRZA4rX8wc8. I don't have a clue.

:celebration:

I got it all updated, now I'm working my way through the tuturial to see if I can make it out of the sewers without any issues.

So far so good, wish me luck.

Ah, I was going to say: If you aren't very far in your game, you can forget the upsave program and just start a new character.

I was about 20 hours into it. (not my first playthrough, longtime fan) But from the coolness of MMM, it'll be worth replaying through. :P

Uh...I am having some trouble with Elaborate Eyes, though. The eye textures are all messed up - everyone now looks like they're stoned out of their gourd.

No big deal, not a necessary mod...but semi-creepy.

Here is a load order you can use as a reference for your MMM+OOO setup: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pb7X4kMdvelbqrwmeFgmsEA&gid=0. Make sure to update to the latest versions of both mods (OOO 1.34b5 and MMM 3.7b3.) You should definitely read the first posts of their respective threads for installation instruction, updates information and the like.

Googly eyes? :D

Wrye Bash can fix that for ya, just merge any cosmetic mods into your bashed patch.

Thanks...looks like everything is as it should be.

I'm running around all over cyrodiil but not seeing anything besides the usual wolves and imps, even after "player.setlevel" to mega high. Should I be seeing any new monsters? Is MMM not in effect yet for some reason?

Post your load order. MMM's changes should be obvious at level 1. Have you seen red goblins? Those appear at early levels even as you travel along roads. Do you have Wrye Bash or OBMM? Use Wrye Bash's List Mods function (right click on the "File" tab and it copies the active mod list for you.)

Okay, just a sec...

Grrrr. I just tried to install Wrye Bash and it gives me some .pyw file it can't open??

Anyway, I've got
  • OOO .esm,
  • MMM .esm,
  • OOO .esp,
  • MMM .esp,
  • unofficial patch, then the rest of all the addons for both are all jumbled up.

This is driving me nucking futs. Apparently the link was outdated so I downloaded the wrong version of MMM. Which means I probably have to uninstall the whole thing.

Yeah, somebody directed me to version 3.0 along the way...now it says in the readme I've gotta reinstall both OOO and MMM. :brokencomputer: [censored] balls.

Yes, uninstall it. You definitely want to be sure you get the installation right. Let's get Wrye Bash working and then I can walk you through the BAIN installation of MMM and OOO.

Downloads:
http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368 --Install the Wrye Python 01 package first!! Then drop the Wrye Bash 279 archive in your "Oblivion" folder (the one that contains the Data folder) right-click and choose "unzip here."
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1075204 --You only need to download the 3.7b3 BSA and the 3.7b3 main files. The links are up-to-date. Read the first three posts. (You do not have to read about the older versions in the first one.) There are a few plugin updates you may want to download in post 3. Post #2 is pertains to the MMM SI plugin.

Edit: I will add the links to the MMM files in a bit if you do not already have them.

Thanks for the help, Tom...I'll keep you posted in a few minutes here...

I already ran the 275 Self Installer...doesn't run. Do I need to uninstall it somehow?

As for the new MMM thread, unfortunately I started this thread after downloading and installing MMM30 (OMOD style) from an old link. How do I uninstall MMM30 before running the new BSA?

Same question for OOO...can I just "Deactivate" them in OBMM and then create a new archive with the newer version of MMM?

Did the you install the prerequisites for Wrye Bash already, the Wrye Python 01 package?

Edit: Just read your last post
To uninstall the mods you installed through OBMM, just deactivate their respective OMODs. For BAIN installation, you will not have to create new archives or OMODS. BAIN installs from loose files or archives.

I have all the files ready to install, but I'm kinda waiting on you so I don't do anything horribly wrong.

I have Wrye Bash Python, and the Wrye Archive ready.

I have the new version of MMM ready.

I have installed and patched OOO up to the version 1.33.

The problem is I have an old version of MMM installed right now. I understand the load order, and I can deal with that after I make sure everything is actually up to date.

Okay. Please first uninstall all mods through OBMM (including OOO.) We are going to start over with BAIN. Before you do anything else with the mods. Get Wrye Bash up and running. Also, in the mean time, download the full version of OOO 1.33 if you do not already have it, the archive version if possible. If you only have OMOD versions of some mods, that works too. Download the 1.34b5 update for OOO as well.

#1 Install Wrye Python 01 package
#2 Put the Wrye Bash 279 archive in your "Oblivion" folder and use 7-zip's "extract here" command from the right-click menu.
#3 Create a short cut to Wrye Bash on your desktop or quick launch tool bar. (What version of Windows are you running?)
--Shortcut target: %PythonInstallDriveLetter%:\Python25\pythonw.exe "%OblivionInstallDriveLetter%:\games\Oblivion\Mopy\bash.py"
--Shortcut startin: %OblivionInstallDriveLetter%:\games\Oblivion\Mopy
#4 Run Wrye Bash from the shortcut. The first screen is the "File" tab. You should see Oblivion.esm (and the SI plugin if you install SI.)
--If You see other plugins. You did not uninstall everything through OBMM, or you manually installed some mods and did not remove them. Do so now.
#5 Click on the Installers Tab to initialize it. It creates and "Oblivion Mods\Bash Installers" folder under the "Oblivion" folder.
...I'll break here for a bit...
