Martin Septim Dragonborn?

Post » Fri Aug 12, 2011 1:34 am

I was having another go at the main questline from Oblivion and when speaking to Baurus at the end of the tutorial quest my ears picked up on something. "...They say it's the dragon blood that flows through the viens of every Septim." Or something along those lines. So it got me thinking... Is Martin Septim a Dragonorn?

I apologise if there is already a topic asking this question, I was just curious.

The dragonborn in Skyrim has the soul of a dragon though, not dragon blood, I think that is the big difference.

Alessia and her lines only connection to Dragons are their Pacts with Akatosh and that every Bloodline when dead must give their souls to the Amulet to keep the pact and protect mundus from Daedric princes freely coming as they see fit.

They are not Dragonborn in that of Skyrim, so somethings need to be cleared up on Beths part on what the Dragonborn are in septims line, in the septim line the Cannotation of Dragonborn is Symbolic, the symbol of the Dragon used by the Imperials was drawn from Akaviri signs, and the blood are those tasked with keeping the covenant.

so at the moment there is a massive cluster fuzzles of things that need to be set straight.

Depending on the context, blood could mean soul. That line perked my ears as well... Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't part of the Skyrim prophecy have to do with the extinction of the dragon hybrid line and the destruction of the amulet? I can't remember where I read that, but it sounds familiar. And it if is correct, then it makes sense because:

Spoiler
Martin was the last of the 3rd Era--effectively the end of the line of dragon hybrids whether it was by blood or soul.

So if that is the case then Dovahkiin would still be in line with the prophecy.

the Dragonborn by what Beth stated in Jan, was a line of Dragon Hunters who fought them in the times of early Tamriel.

Another statement was that they are people born with the souls of Dragons

both of these have nothing to do with Alessia and her decendants forming a deal with Akatosh and making him the symbol of their freedom.

Tiber septim did not start the septim line.............

Although I think most people are correct in that the Septims are only Dragonborn symbolically, I do think Martin Septim was an actual Dragonborn in the same sense that the Dovahkiin is. He morphed into a Dragon for Christs sake. He was not just another normal Septim.

The Septim line may not be dragonborn, however they do have command of The Voice (thu'um), similar to dragon shouts. Talos Septim was said to be so powerful in using these shouts that he intimidated and devoured the shouts of the Greybeards atop High Hrothgar, the same Greybeards* our Dovahkin visits in Skyrim. Tiber Spetim was also a Tongue (user of the shouts) and established the College of The Voice in Markarth, which trained in using The Voice as a tool of war.

*Perhaps not the same individuals, but the same group.

I think Merhunes is just happy to be causing destruction and death that is permanent, as opposed to the constantly returning bodies and landscape of Oblivion.

He just likes to push the boundaries.

I agree with this, and also enjoyed the post!

Presumably not just anyone can turn into an avatar of Akatosh - for instance, I'm not 100% sure I could (but on balance I think I could probably could)

Whether or not that means he could do the shouts and the rest, not sure. Certainly Tiber Septim/Talos must have been able to seeing as the Greybeards got excited enough to beat one out (I mean a call from the top of the mountain, you sickos) when he turned up

I read a UESPWiki article the other day that described the Septims as being "Dragonborn" and was wondering does that mean our Skyrim protagonist is related to the Septims?!

Tiber Septim, did not start the septim line.

He learned Thu'um he wasn't born with it, he was strong with it, because Tiber/Ysgmir who can be a Dragonborn as in that from Skyrim but the Septim line arent DRAGONBORN in that they have Dragon souls......

? Okay that was kind of hard to follow. My question is, who started the Septim bloodline, if not Tiber Septim.... ??

He took that name for himself, then the rest of his bloodline kept it through to Martin..
