Mash Installers

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:54 am

Hey,

I've just discovered Wrye Mash Installers but I wanted to check to see if my understanding is correct; Mash can keep track of which mods are installed correctly, and can uninstall them, according to what files are in the "Installers" directory?

My question is, is there a way to delete the files from the "Installers" directory, whilst maintaining a record of the mod in Wrye Mash?

It seems ridiculous to keep a copy of all my mods in the "Installers" directory, as it would take up so much unnecessary space! It seems to me like all the program really needs is a list of a mod's files, as opposed to keeping a copy of the actual files themselves.

Thanks,

- Danjb

You have a better chance for an answer of your question http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1068986-wrye-mash-thread-5/ instead. :)

I have over 300 different mods(many are straight replacers) installed and that only takes a bit more then 3gb of space, not terribly many.

I think you're missing the main point of the installers tab...the ability to swap mods in and out, and have it reconcile what should be moved in/out and actually doing it automatically.

If you don't have ALL the files for every mod off in a seperate directory, so Mash can remove/add on-the-fly, you go back to the manual ways.....

in other words...when you decide to install a mod, it reconciles what that mod conflicts with and you can sequence the install such that part of the new mod is used, and part is trumped by something you like better (say, a comprehensive mod that you like everything but the jars for...you just sequence it before your jar replacer and Mash puts the right files from both mods in your Data Files)

I get that, but it seems like it would be much more efficient to keep a list of all the files for every mod, rather than copies of the files themselves. But it seems like that's not possible.

EDIT: I just realised that it makes sense to keep a copy of a mod's files in case you overwrite one with a new mod and then choose to uninstall it... I guess in an ideal world Mash would just make a copy of any files that are overwritten.

You can use compressed archives if you are low on memory, and want to use BAIN.
