Mash nukwd my computer...

Post » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:07 pm

First, I'm on my phone, so I can't download anything. Anyway, I tried to merge my leveled lists in mash, but it made my main save just a blank screen. I had 160 backups, and none of them worked. I made a new character and everything was alright. I decide to walk from Hla Oad to Ebonheart. When I get the I tele to mournhold. I buy a steel crossbow, but beeing level 1, I leave. I teleport to firewatch, and leave through the top floor. Outside, all the land scape is untextured. The buildings are either partly missing, or untextured. The distant land is fine though. My frame rate is total poo. I ctrl alt delete out and restart. Everything is fine now. I decide to go train marksman. After a walk on the beach, my crossbow starts making the fire sound twice. After 5 minutes, I decide to save. When I open the save menu, I blue screened. I'm now defragging my HDD.

sounds like more than mash. remove if you think it's a problem. but honestly that almost sounds like a directX problem.

I highly doubt that Mash did this, but I suppose anything is possible.

Graphical glitches sound more like DirectX or an overheating GPU, but it's hard to say without more specific information.

Yikes! That sounds bad. It sounds like making new merged leveled lists made your old saves incompatible with the new lists. 99% of the time, that will give you a bunch of errors, but I've never heard of it making them blank screens. Do you mean that you can start the save but it's just blank color, or do you mean that loading the save freezes your computer? If you want to try and make your old saves good again, try this:

In Mash, go to the Saves tab. Click on the newest old save and click inside the lower box on the right. Some colors may jumble on the Merged Lists.esp, scroll down and check if it's either green or blue. If it's green or blue, click the Save button below the box. The save should be "caught up" with the new merged lists. :)

You mentioned your frame rate is bad. How old/powerful is your computer? Is it a laptop? Your other problems sound like your computer is struggling to run Morrowind. After a while, Morrowind will lose track of things and bug out, especially fort building pieces for some reason. My Imperial forts can disappear entirely sometimes! Your best bet is to turn down some settings in MGE. You're not playing on your phone, are you? :lmao:

Hope that helps.

My fps is fine. I deleted the saves but the screen was the color of the background fog. I couldn't see any difference in any direction, but the mini map said I was turning.

Oh, and trying to update saves failed. I use mcp and .exe optimizer.

The view distance may be too close if everything is getting fogged out - check your view distance setting thru the in-game options menu.

If you're using FPS Optimizer to maintain a certain framerate and the threshold is set too high along with a very low view distance limit, then the fog can be brought in close enough to hide the rendering of objects. Make sure your distance limits are 2500 (MW default) or greater, and start by lowering the threshold to half of what it is (i.e. from 25 min / 30 max to 12 min / 15 max).

Too low of a view distance can negatively impact framerate to the point of stuttering (i.e. less than 4 fps).

I've never heard of changes to the leveled lists causing this sort of issue, but if the save has not been updated by Wrye Mash as others here have mentioned there's the possibility that the reference indexes have become confused in the save and are causing doubling (which will also negatively impact framerate) and could cause some objects to vanish. This is most likely because the leveled list is not at the end of the load list and some of its references have changed / been removed compared to the old version recorded in the save - updating the save should correct that.

The double sound when shooting bows/crossbows is a known bug with stock MW and usually happens when you are moving while shooting. There's no fix AFAIK.

I don't think it's Mash. If you turn off MGE, do things look okay? If so, then you probably need to fiddle with your MGE configuration.

This is possibly your problem (or part of it):

You have Distant Land enabled, and I suspect you also have "Keep FPS constant" labeled. You may also be using an out of date shader with MGE (say the HDR and Bloom that it comes with, among others) that is killing your framerate, which causes your "keep FPS constant" settings to contract your fog to minimum range. Except that with Distant Land, you don't see fog. You just see bare landscape.

Turn off Keep FPS constant.

Disable any shaders you've activated.

If you are using shaders that came with MGE, try these instead:
