If Mass Effect can do it, why not Skyrim?

I still think Skyrim could benefit from optional Kinect Support for spell casting, voice integration, etc. Looks like ME is doing it...

Kinect in ME3 is still just a rumour though, and even if it wasn't they have already confirmed that Skyrim will not support kinect. Motion control is a silly gimmick, and one that will hopefully die out sooner rather than later.

I can barely image how lame and boring and even tiring that would become. I'll just click my mouse think you. I'll hit the gym in the evening.

I really don't see the appeal of kinect for games like Skyrim.
What would you actually do with it? Wave your arm to attack, but why would you want to? The attack will play the same animation no matter what gesture you do, so why not stick to the conventional button based method?
Kinect compatibility would be a massive waste of developer time for a pointless gimmick that isn't any more fun or offers any more options than standard controls.

I think it would be a nice "Feature" or "Option" but not make it an Kinect only ordeal. For some of us, it would be nice to sword slash, it might even give us a LOTR Feeling. I won't use it, but I could see how it would be fun. You guys are being WAY To negative. You forget, the whole purpose of VR and Simulation games is the "Promising Future". I don't believe in it, but it's what alot of people would like.

Do enough players use kinect? This is along the lines of people such as myself wanting full dx11 features for the pc version. Only a small amount of players have dx11 capable cards compared to everyone else, so they decide not to spend time/resources implementing it. That's the same thing with kinect, only some xbox players have it, so they won't use time/'manpower/money on it.

To me, Kinect is just a cash-wagon that Microsoft decided to jump on because everyone else was doing it, I don't think it belongs in this sort of game.

Bethesda doesn't need gimmicks like Kinect support to sell games, that's why.

This stuff is for 2minute games.

The last thing most people want to do, is come home from work and then jump on the xbox to bounce around flailing their arms like a fool. Especially when this game is hundreds of hours long.

Also how could you compare a linear game like Mass Effect with a game like TES?

Nah, I think I'd call it more of a niche market than a gimmick. It's very good for some types of games. I do agree, though, that Skyrim isn't one of them.

they said it would take to much memory. the average mass effect games total map space is only about the size of about 4 city blocks the average elder scrolls map ever since oblivion is about 24 miles not including caves ruins and building interiors ....big difference me lad.

The only motion control games out there that are fun are games designed SPECIFICALLY for motion control. I don't know of a single game that tacked motion control on as an after-thought, and if they exist they clearly weren't successful.

The games I've found most compelling on kinect are extremely simple, one dimensional games. Boxing. Soccer. Games where you have 3 - 6 basic movements that make up the whole game. Now consider all the things they'd have to account for in Skyrim:
- Drive character customization interface
- Browse dialog options
- Open inventory, map, skill & perk menus
- Open and interact with the journal
- Use the quick action menu
- Walk, turn, strafe, and head turn (simultaneously)
- Use a weapon and or magic in each hand
- Place and pick up item in world
- Use item transfer interface

I'd say kinect integration would be a TERRIBLE, nearly criminal waste of resources at this point.

Let me put it this way: If Mass Effect 3 has Kinect, I won't buy it, because I'll be feeding Microsoft's rip-off to a gameplay mechanic that (in my opinion) was just a publicity stunt. And I'll cancel my Skyrim pre-order and just put the credit towards Modern Warfare 3 if they announce Kinect support for Skyrim.

Motion control is a great as a novelty, but the novelty wore out long ago with the Wii, and btw, I played a Wii and all of the good games I played didn't use the motion control.

Screw the Kinect, it is the most overrated piece of crap I've seen. Only 1-5% of the fans will use it if it's implemented, a complete waste of time.

I'm rather doubtful that Mass Effect 3 would even support Kinect yet alone Skyrim. Which is for the better given Microsofts failed attempt at copying Nintendo's Wii which in of its self was a bad example of a technological gimmack (atleast as it stands now).

Which is to say Skyrim doesn't need or should in the slightest be Kinect compatible.

I strongly disagree with this sentiment. Games like Skyrim are the ones that would benefit most from Motion control, especially if implemented for combat. It would be a more engaging experience, being able to intuitively control weapon strikes and position. But, it would be difficult to program the go-between to smooth out the differences between what is recorded (At 1:1) and what is performed (smoothly removing 1:1 to moderate weapon and movement speed, handle assorted stuns, handling interrupted actions, and smoothing out animation), so it looks like a believably competant fighter using real, weighted weapons and shields, instead of a nerd in a cool-looking suit flailing around with nigh-massless props.

Being able to control footplay, dodge directions, shield position, and the directions and manner in which you strike would be great for combat in an Action-Adventure-RPG. The control and versatility in control in combat and style of a fighting game, without the complexity and need for stupid amounts of buttons and keystroke combinations.

However, the game would have to be built around the motion control, as others have said. Wii Motion Plus, Kinectm and Playstation Move aren't gimmicks in themselves, but they've only had gimmick implementation. Right now, they are just wasted potential.

The biggest problem with Kinect is the software to support it is competing with more tangible content on a very limited disk space and a very small processor... The 360's expiration date was 2008, and now Microsoft is holding the industry back.

It's underdeveloped, but motion control isn't silly.

Edit: Mass Effect, on the other hand, is silly.

Neither the technology nor the gaming mechanics are anywhere CLOSE to making a game like Skyrim fully integrated with kinect. Almost all the motion-control games currently out there are gaming mechanics built around 3 to 6 basic movements. IE. "Lets build a game based on two leg movements and a head movement and call it SOCCER".

Don't get me wrong, I could play Boxing on kinect 8 hours straight, but none of it is advanced enough to implement into Skyrim yet. At least not in a way that wouldn't put kinect users at an abysmal disadvantage compared to mouse+keyboarders.
