Mass Effect: A NooB Asks...

Post » Tue Sep 22, 2015 3:35 pm

I was poking about on Amazon the other day and noticed they a http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-Trilogy-PC/dp/B0050SZ980/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2_gam?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1430909280&sr=1-1&keywords=mass+effect+trilogy for sale. I was interested until I read one reviewer who said, "Downside: Missing DLCs."

I also noticed Steam has 1 and 2 in a http://store.steampowered.com/sub/18260/, but not 3. Can not tell if any DLC's come with this bundle.

I did briefly search on Origin and found the base games.

I have a couple of questions.

1) With all the awards, is there no "Game of the Year" editions, DLC's included, either game by game or a in a trilogy like the above mentioned?

2) Steam? Origin? Either or, neither nor?

I've heard lots of good things about the game and wanted to see what it was like. Thanks for any help :)

PS: Thanks outandback for your thoughts on it through Steam :)

There are rumors they are working on a remastered ultimate game of the year edition type of deal for all three in a triology. However I can't say this is guranteed.

Mass Effect 3 is only available on Origin.

There are no "Game of the Year" editions, you need to buy the DLCs separately. You even have to use the stupid Bioware points currency (Microsoft Points knockoff).

Most bundles have the Deluxe editions that include most pre-order DLC but not any that was released after launch.

Like they said, ME3 is Origin exclusive, so you might as well buy the rest there too. You can play without most of the DLC, but definitely grab at least Lair of the Shadow Broker, From Ashes (included in deluxe digital edition) and the Extended Cut (free).

I'm a patient man :)

What are Bioware Points? I have not kept up with Bioware since KotOR 2 released :) (I wonder if my old account is still good over there...)

Taking a quick look at Bioware's store page for https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/browse/masseffect?__utma=228303502.1569992529.1430914329.1430914329.1430914329.1&__utmb=228303502.2.10.1430914329&__utmc=228303502&__utmk=232538780&__utmv=-&__utmx=-&__utmz=228303502.1430914329.1.1.utmcsr%3D%28direct%29%7Cutmccn%3D%28direct%29%7Cutmcmd%3D%28none%29&q=bioware&referringsite=bioware, I am not seeing DLC listed but the games listed all have price tags. Would these points be for consoles? I am looking for PC versions :)

Bioware Points are sort of a leftover feature from Bioware's own digital shop. They are still present when buying DLCs directly from Origin even though they're very unnecessary there.

Not sure if one can even buy the DLCs without owning the games in the first place.

They're an alternative digital currency that you need to purchase to buy DLCs for Bioware games. You can only buy them in packs of $16, $12, $8, and $4 for 1600, 1200, 800, and 400 points respectively, while the DLCs prices are not mostly even multiples/fractions of these packs so you almost always have points left over that you can't use.

You need to own the games and then you can purchase the DLCs directly from the game's info page in your Origin library. Or if you don't have Mass Effect 2 on Origin then you need to go through http://masseffect.bioware.com/me2/info/dlc/

Instead of buying DLC directly, you buy Bioware Point packs and pay for DLC with points. A horrible system. You can find them on Bioware Social Network or whatever it's called now, the wiki also has a list of all DLC with prices.

If you mean your forum account at the old blue Bioware forums, they are long gone. Bioware closed those forums when they were absorbed into The Borg EA. That annoyed me because my account there was even older than my account here.

If you mean something else, I don't know. :)

Same here. It annoyed me, too. When I last tried to log in, I was re-directed to make an Origin account.

No you can purchase 1 and 2 on Steam and play them on Steam not Origin, but no DLC'S.

The 3 pack only gives you a few DLC's most people were hoping for a full release, but they didnt because it wasnt that long after the release of 3 and they were still making money out of dlc's, the only thing is that you get a DLC for 1 that wasnt readily available, it never appear on the list of DLC's i could purchase, and i own them all for all editions, but its the only other DLC for number 1 and honestly not that important, i purchased the 3 pack as a backup, and since i own all the dlc's i was hoping i could install them, but im not to positive that it will let me the way they seem to have it configured, if anyone else has done it could they confirm it.

Yea, that's the one.

I remember railing at BioWare for KotOR 2 and its "the last Jedi" bit, but then came around as I payed more of the game :)

Bring Down the Sky is http://help.ea.com/en/article/mass-effect-bring-down-the-sky-dlc-redemption/. Pinnacle Station isn't, but uhm, let's just say they're doing you a service by not offering it. I heard that people used to be able to redeem their Steam keys on Origin and Pinnacle Station was included in that version, but I can't verify it.

I have the trilogy on the 360 but have not played any of it yet. I bought each game separately since the trilogy was a lot more expensive. I only payed $4.99 CAD for each game. The Trilogy on sale was still $39.99. Since the trilogy did not have any DLC's.

I do not think EA believes in bundled games with DLC. They want you to buy each one.

I could never get any DLC's for ME1 and 2 for the PC even some of the free ones or even redeeming the code for some armors or whatever. Stated not available for my region or IP address. I was even looking to buy DLC's but same message. This was through Origin. I think it might be due to my Internet being from an USB internet stick.

I might look to see if any of the DLC is available on the Microsoft Store if not than I am fine with the Base Game. The Base games are quite large.

I thought about that but read somewhere that one of the later base games (2 or 3) used cannon from a DLC in the next base game. I really have no idea how that would effect things, but makes me hesitate :)

Lair of the Shadow Broker for ME2 is obviously canon considering its size, if there is any DLC for one of the games you need to get it's Lair of the Shadow Broker. DLC character Kasumi is part of one sidequest in ME3. Overlord also gives a tiny War Asset boost in ME3 IIRC. Arrival happened but not with Shepard and you lose 50 War Asset points if you didn't complete it.

For Mass Effect 1, only Bring Down the Sky has a tiny influence in ME3 (one character interaction + some War Assets) if you choose a specific path.

The accounts are still there, i can still view my old account through bioware social, because it contains all my dlc's for mass effect and dragon age, and the new version doesnt.

When ME 1 originally came out you had to purchase it but couldnt get pinnacle station, but when 2 was released they deleted my registration to me1 and my access to bring down the sky dlc, only 3 days ago i complained to ea that i couldnt access my dlc, they told me it wasnt available anymore, till i told them that under Australian consumer law they were still liable for a refund, because it was an electronic transaction, suddenly and miraculously it was available, so they registered my copy of me 1 again and gave me pinnacle station as well for free, and it'd want to be free.

EA, not game of the Year edition. Can't make more money by selling the DLC for the same price as the base game...no, no.
