Options on the fate of the family...

So this is what I think are some of the possible options.

1. There dead Jim!

The easy one, they died during the blast or its aftermath and you'll find your spouse's bones outside the Vault. (they will be they one with the wedding ring).....like the one you have in your inventory.

2. Frozen with you but removed earlier.

This is more complex and could tie in with option 3, basically they were brought into the vault with you and they were revived and left earlier than you, you are then revived and find yourself the sole living thing in Vault 111.....get out there and track down your spouse and kid.

3. Android family.

Your family were put on ice, but didn't survive the process. the preserved corpses of Vault 111 was used by the Institute for their experiments and if you co-operate with them, they will program an android with your spouse's memories from their preserved brain....and they will throw in a android kid for free.

4. Evacuated by the military.

We know that the military were on site when the blast wave hit, but there is no sign of any wreckage of the vertibird or apc from the prologue when you emerge, so perhaps your injured spouse and baby was evacuated with the soldiers guarding Vault 111, find out what happened to them next.

5. Ghoulified.

They became ghouls, this is a strong possibilty since unless your spouse got into a vault or bunker they probably would have followed the usual Fallout game rule of nukes = ghouls. The baby would present a problem since there has never been a baby ghoul in any Fallout games (not including games that were never made).

In the footage, I sure saw a lot of BOS killing though.

Actually I think there are only two scenes of you shooting at BOS with a missile launcher (one at an inititate in power armour and one at an intitate in a vertibird) and a crashing airship, which I think is from the story.....the power armour getting hit by a mini nuke has been mistaken for BOS by some, but he is indentified as a raider.

This may be a hint that you can fight against BOS as well as with them (as the artwork suggests) or it maybe a case of lets show the Protagonist shooting at everything......cool!

I have a feeling our grown up kid is going to be one of the big bads by the time our PC comes out of stasis.

He'd be at least 200 years old now.

My new thought, since the devs stated that the kid was designed to take after you and the spouse, the kid was put in stasis like you and was let out earlier (decades earlier). Enough for him to exact whatever plan he wants. Oh, and maybe his mom was in stasis as well.

New thread will be up soon with highly revised theory. A number of details have been amended based on clues in the footage from E3, so it actually make a lot more sense this time round. I think I've even managed to figure out exactly what happens inside the vault. All information has also been thoroughly tested for overall integrity.

Who's to say people weren't released from the vault one at a time at certain dates?

An interesting idea, and I think you're along the right lines. Note: If this is the case, then the dates could well have some significance. Will post info on this shortly...

I really hope that the child either plays no part in the main story, or they don't go all reverse darth vader. If they are alive, I'd rather see them the leader of a settlement, or what if you find them out in the wastes and they become a companion... They know who you are because of the vault suit, but are reluctant to tell you who they are, until partway through the story.
