Massive Clue to Fallout 4 Storyline!

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:25 am

This script was leaked at the end of 2013. During this time, although the main thread of story would likely remain the same, some details could have been changed to accommodate new ideas. One simple example of this, the dialogue in the scene with Preston Garvey and his Minutemen (as seen during the Microsoft showcase) has changed. This suggests that the mention of our protagonist being in the army could also have changed. One piece of supporting evidence to the naval idea is the number of pictures hanging in the player's home that have the sea as their theme. Also, there are no large army bases within what we believe to be the general map area. Whereas Charlestown Navy Yard is a short distance away from Logan International Airport, which appears in the concept art, and sits well within the same map area.

Actualy now that theres Western, Midwestern, Capital Wasteland, and Outcasts its technically possible that its up to a 4 way shootout between BOSS, and thats not even counting possible Boston BOSSes

Well it looks like we could end up finding a lot of scrap metal towards the endgame to build up our bases with!

Just saying that the fact of their being a large naval base in the main map area means that we have a location our protagonist can visit that he has a strong connection with. As a plot device, this could be worked in with the increasing likelihood of us fighting in a full-scale war as some kind of side-objective.

I wonder if your spouse and/or child is alive. There has to be a reason why you would bother going on and live. If you wake up 200 years later to find your spouse and child dead, all of your other family and friends long dead, and then see the world you used to know has become a hellish nuclear wasteland, well if it was me, I'd pop myself in the head and be done with it. So there must be a good reason for you to keep going.

Agreed, there is little reason to try to find out what happened to your family once you find out 200 years have passed, at best it would seem be a hopeless quest since I doubt there would any records of their deaths if they died in the aftermath of the blasts and there is no reason for the player to even know about the possiblity of them being ghoulified. Something has to happen after the blast wave to give you a reason to carry on....to believe there is some hope.

Here is a question, where are the skeletons of the other people standing on the shaft entrance. We see a skeleton of one of the people prevented from entering, just outside the fence but no sign of any of the people with you as the blast hits.

I am wondering if the reason they skipped your family home is because there is a story spoiler in there, a message from your spouse perhaps?

You don't see skeletons after 200 years... That would be more strange than no skeletons...

There's definitely something important in regards to the vault and the family home.

But you do in fallout games, you regularly find pre-war skeletons in Fallout 3 and NV and there are two in the E3 demo, one in Vault (vault tech scientist with the pip boy) and one outside the Vault fence.

I have to say that perhaps my idea of a ghoulified son turning into a pirate could have been stretching it a little. Maybe it was the fact of being awake for two days so I didn't miss the E3 conference! But looking back at the pirate figure, whatever his origin, he clearly a high level of significance. With regards to what really happened to the protagonist's family? I have a few new ideas that I think would actually fit perfectly with what we already know, and would still make for a very interesting story. Watch this space...

Well the skeletons in Fallout 3 were usually pretty obviously people who died during or in the aftermath of the war.....families in their beds, people who survived the aftermath in shelters, suicides, etc.

We know that the scientist skeleton is wearing a pre war vault tech scientist coat and has a pre-war pip boy on, so we can assume its probably from the scientist we see in the trailer and demo, whether he died in the shaft or later in the vault is of course unknown.

We know that there were people around the fence outside the Vault when the blast wave hit, so I think its reasonable to assume the skeleton outside the fence is from them.

Skeletons have generally been from the Great War era.

Note the comment made by the player's spouse in the footage we saw. it suggested that the husband was in either the army or the navy, and yet this is said before we have decided which of the two we are choosing to play as. What that tells me is that, depending on which of the two we actually choose, we could be facing entirely different plot elements, or the same elements played out from a totally different angle. Let's just say that the naval connection is correct, and we are required to complete some important objective at the Charlestown Naval Base as mentioned above. Even if you are playing as a female, this would still have been her husband's place of work and a location that she is also at least partially familiar with. Don't forget, they we're both getting ready to go to the veteran's hall at the start of the tutorial.

She may of course simply be going as his wife, but there is no reason to think she also couldn't be a veteran.

This would also work, perhaps that could be where they met.

Could be, them both being veterans would explain how both characters could have the same basic history of being in the military.

I was looking though the wiki and it appears that female soldiers exist in the anchorage DLC (even if some extra stuff has been added that didn't happen historically) and there is the combat medic from Mothership Zeta. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Spurlock

I suppose you could also make a case that due to the needs of fighting a 11 year war, occupying Canada and garrisoning the US that the US Military would have to allow women nto their ranks, even if only in non combat roles.

I've just noticed the flag display case on the bookshelf to the right-hand-side of the front door. You can see it in the E3 footage immediately after our protagonist mentions the sugar bombs. This would suggest that he would in fact be a vet with service in army or possibly navy. The fact that there's only one supports the idea of him also being the only one between them who served.

I was thinking about this and it could simply be that the leaked casting script is of course the male version with his military experience, which has been confirmed by the E3 footage saying he was a veteran.

I don't think we have any information about the female protagonist background, beyond being married with a child.

An alternative explanation on the flag display could be a flag presented at funeral (with military honours) of a relative.

I was just watching the E3 footage again and there are skeletons (including another scientist) next the shaft entrance which suggest these are the remains of the other people on the shaft entrance with the player when the nuke hits.

E3 Fallout presentation (from the Bethesda blog) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5esyZPt5Jo#t=12 the skeletons next to the shaft can be clearly seen at 10:12.

Well spotted! I have been studying the footage in detail, and have made a few other interesting observations. Based on the skeletons you discovered, as well as some other information I have been looking at, I think I know what happened inside vault 111. Will post an update a little later on.
