So, a massive DLC

Post » Sat Jan 08, 2011 8:03 am

I wish people were more interested in new things instead of wanting the same thing rehashed over and over and over and over and over.

Quite agree. We already have Morrowind and Solstheim.
What I would love to see is a huge underground expansion ( not like Unearthing Mehrunes Razor, that was just a big dungeon ). Think of a huge Dwemer city, colonised in part by friendly Nords or Dunmer, or does anyone remember the old ADnD modules Descent into the depths of the Earth and Vault of the Drow. Nowhere we have seen, and as it's not on the map, no danger of overlap with future TES games.

I think I would too, but I doubt it will happen. Traditional expansions are going dodo in favor of DLC.

Its a shame really :( I would love an expansion rather than a bunch of little things I can do without easily.

Big-time DLC is called an expansion pack. It is a very rare thing now unfortunately. For games I love, they are the best things in the world. New lands, new weapons, new characters etc.

I have never bought a DLC and I don't think I will for quite a few years. They just seem so empty and short on features.

I may be wrong but I think it was bethesda who started the whole DLC thing. It was the first I had heard of it anyways. I guess it was big in asia.

I prefer expansion packs to "small" DLC. Shivering Isles felt like, or rather was, a whole new world to explore with all new enemies, quests and a lot of new items. Much better than a new questline set in the same place or a new dungeon, if you ask me.

You remind me of a child who's birthday present hasn't arrived and he's already thinking of his next birthday.

Yeah... people are right. It's called an expansion. Not a massive DLC.

Also, I'd much much much much more have 2 big expansions like Morrowind than like 9 tiny DLC + Shivering Isles like Oblivion.
DLC is something I can skip easily.
Gief expansions, plz. As many as you can!

Haha. Yeah. Remastered Morrowind. Considering almost all of Vvardenfell was destroyed, there's not really a point in that now is there?

Actually they already did this- anyone who played Fallout 3 will remember the crater that was Megaton. :P

I'd really really really really not want rehashing of areas we were just in. DLC could be used to add a lot of new stuff. If I want Cyrodiil, I'll play Oblivion.

You and me both. There's plenty of new places to go, I don't want to visit Morrowind, Solstheim, Shivering Isles, [insert endless list of already-suggested "we kan haz trip back 2..." locations], let's go someplace we've not seen yet. There's a lot of Tamriel out there.

Do you have a link for this because this is very disappointing.

Basically unless Bethesda's attitude towards DLC has changed since Fallout 3, the best we can hope for are DLCs roughly the size of Point Lookout. Real expansions probably aren't going to happen.

Why so many redundant topics about DLC's in a few time?

Don't you dare, Bethesda! I don't care if it takes a year to make one, you have to! I don't want to pay the cost of the game for a few packets of minute content that would give probably half of what we got in shivering isles! Give me a glorious expansion. Someone should create an expansion petition thread or something.

How about we have a trip to some other continent or islands between Tamriel and them where cultures will meet each other?
I would really like to see those monkey people (forgot their names).
That would be much better material for expansion/DLC.

I really don't understand what's wrong with waiting 1 year for a good expansion.
If I've waited 5 years for Skyrim, one more year wont mean anything to me.
Especially if they deliver a good expansion.

As others said, lets cut with this DLC crap and aim Higher, Expansion please, which is something not easily topped these days since they are doing entire regions now.

Sad that they won't be as big as SI, but I'd rather see a new place. No places we've already been. I get that you MW lovers just want to play MW again, but it would be way cooler to see a place that we haven't been to yet.

People are jumping to conclusions. Todd actually said that the more frequent DLC releases of Fallout 3 were tough on the team, and they're not sure if they will follow the same model in the future. Beth isn't afraid of expirimenting. The simple fact is we don't have the slightest clue what shape the Skyrim DLC will take.

I was thinking, would Bethesda do a big-time DLC like the shivering isle for Skyrim? Personally I would love to see A remastered Cyrodill, you never know what could have happened in them 200 years, or maybe a remastered Morrowind.

This might benefit Xbox360 and Ps3 users, who can't use mods?

It's not called a "massive DLC". It's called an expansion pack. And they were a far superior way to upgrade the game than DLC. But they aren't used as much now because you can't milk as much money out of your fanbase that way.

I don't know if Skyrim's engine would be right for it, but I'm dying to see Falinesti, Valenwood. A walking city? What's not to love? It would probably have to be an entirely new game with the mechanics involved in making walking trees, let alone ones massive enough to contain a city.

I'd also like to know what really goes on over in Akavir. I guess we probably won't find out until around Elder Scrolls X for that one.

I feel that even the folks at Bethesda themselves are still undecided in regards to the expansion vs DLC issue. Hopefully they can pull off a mix between the two though, especially considering their increase in manpower.

On another note, this quote from Todd in a http://www.oxm.co.uk/26155/bethesdas-todd-howard-on-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/ might piqued some speculations:
There's good news too if your interest in the Elder Scrolls dates back to 1996 and Daggerfall: Howard would love to treat elements of the second instalment to a makeover. "I'd like to see the city of Daggerfall redone, or Sentinel. Daggerfall should be on a giant bluff, overlooking the Iliac Bay, and we just couldn't pull it off well then."

Yeah, I think that beth said something about testing DLC ideas with fallout.
So, if that source (that I don't remember) was right, we will get a ton of small DLC's rather than expansion packs.

Which I disagree with, expansion packs are the way to go, more content, more to do. Shallow content doesn't belong in TES.
