Matchmaking System

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 2:01 pm

There is something a bit off with the matchmaking system in Brink. At least for the PS3 I have noticed. I can never get into a decent multiplayer match. Every time I try to play verse actual players the teams end up being completely unbalanced or it puts me in a room by myself and I end up playing the game like campaign mode.

For example all last nite I kept getting into matches where one team would have 5-6 real players and the other team would have 2. If the standard settings has auto-balance on (which is does) that does not seem very balanced to me. Thats roughly 8 real players so should they not be split into teams of 4 and then bots fill in the rest until more players join? Once that happens it trades off players every time someone new joins putting one on security one on resistance until the team is full of real players.

Granted maybe it is not splitting the teams up even because those people are friends so are automatically put in a fireteam but I highly doubt that is the case for every match I have joined. Also this brings me to another point if you join someone on your friends list you should not automatically be put on there team you should have the choice. Granted I like playing with my friends but if a team is outnumbered I would be more than happy to play on that side until the numbers even out.

Also you should be able to switch factions between matches. I tried multiple times to go to the other team to try and balance things out and the option to switch factions only had to switch to a spectator and would not allow me to switch to the other side.

This game is great but the multiplayer aspect is lackluster at this point in time. I have yet to get into a decent multiplayer match they are typically one sides with one team full of actual players and the other AI or I am constantly being thrown into my own room with no one else joining. It is really starting to get frustrating because I have played through the campaign alone 3-4 times already because I cannot get into a good multiplayer match.

They need to patch the matchmaking system or create a lobby system to where the match won't start until the room is full or has an even number of players on each side.

My problem is that it is very clunky when you are trying to group with friends. This is why some sort of lobby system is needed.I think that part of problem is that the invites come through PSN and not the actual game.I'm not sure, but maybe they didn't do it because of it being P2P instead of dedicated servers.

Either way, something has to be fixed with the grouping.

Agreed it is clunky trying to join friends not to mention say one of you levels up, wants to change attachments ect. you cannot do so without leaving group. This is why they should have implemented a party system so that players could hangout and talk while changing clothing, using skillpoints, changing weapons ect.

Back to my OP though the main issue I am having is that you can never get into an actual multiplayer match. It is always unbalanced or puts you into your own room. I could deal with a slow clunky friend invite system if I could actually play against other players.

I have no problem getting into MP matches,it's just that the way that the system is,you might be the only human player on the team until others join via invite,or on their own.

There should be a way to have all human players start a match at the same time.

Agreed you can get into matches but the matches will have no other players or the teams will be completely unbalanced either way it isnt fun and is frustrating.

thats what always happend to me, when i start a public freeplay, either bigteams or competitive i always end in a room where im the only one, i never join another person session
its like i create a room and only friends can join, and then friends of psn friends join and the room is filled with ppl.
is weird how it works

I agree but I think Killzone 2 had better server browsing than Black Hawk Down. Killzone 2 also had in game clan support as well meaning you could challenge clans for a wager of in-game currency or create your on clan tournament with buy ins or join other peoples tournaments. By far Killzone 2 had the best online support for any game I have every seen on consoles.

It is too bad the fell to temptation for Killzone 3 trying to get more casual players like COD and in return ruined everything what made the game great.

the worst thing for me is that i can almost never play a full match
30% of matches i join have less then 1 minute left and quite often i join to the results screen

you shouldn't be able to join games that are almost over it's sooo stupid

I dont think its the innitial matchmaking system that is the problem, as far as human players even on both teams, but the stupid option to change teams.

"Oh, its impossible to complete this objective as a member of resistance on this map, Im gonna switch and camp the $^@% out of the bots"

Ended up in a game where my team of 3 other players left for the other team making it 7 vs me.

This happens on the first map all the time.

But... I still love it

Also, why are people not choosing maps between rounds very often? This could be avoided if more than 2 people voted...

The MM in this game is terrible. Period. Add the lack of a lobby system to get your friends into the same game (never mind the same team) makes trying to play Brink with friends a chore. Do I really need to spend 10-15 minutes trying to get everyone together? NO! In this day and age it's a freaking joke.

I'm really trying to love Brink, but with the hideous lag and terrible MM system it's very hard. Normally when I get a new game I spend the next few weekends playing it and nothing else. With Brink, I find myself trying to play online, getting frustrated and turning it off to play something else. Pretty sad. So yes OP, they need to do something soon. Already have friends deciding not to get Brink, and other friends that I know have it are not bothering with it.

I agree ive came across a few large lobbies on the ps3 but usually i find two people so stupid they need lobbies.

Okay they are fixing lag this week, now if they fix the MM and give us a lobby system in the next patch, I'll be happy. A graphics upgrade would be nice also. This game is ugly on the 360. These three things are a must when I pay 60 bucks for a game! The lag I can understand, because most games lag the first few weeks of launch, but the other two are absolutely inexcusable!

Lol, don't even get me started on the sub-par graphics. Give us a lobby system and get rid of lag first though, then work on the unfinished looking pop-n-stuff textures.

Yea it's just insane and mind blowing they would release Brink with such inherent problems with the multiplayer when that is the dominant part of Brink. Those things should have been worked out before release. It isn't a lot to ask from the Devs to be able to get into a match against actual players or to actually be able to group up with friends (atleast I don't think so especially when you consider you paid $60 for the game and can't play a mechanic what makes up 50% the game.)
