A matter of perspective.

It depends to me on how much they have improved the combat feel and the third person camera. If it looks or feels anywhere near as good as Demon's Souls (Best thing since Blade Of Darkness), I will be using 3rd person for combat a lot! Especially in open areas or where I could be easily surrounded. First person all the way for sneaking and thieving, though.

I`ve normally played TES games in 1st person as BGS 3rd person attempts have always been a bit hit and miss, not one of their better points.

However, I think i`ll play Skyrim in 3rd person as the detail looks fantastic on the player character and armour etc. and should be quite immersive. Also, the finishing moves should also blend in nicely with 3rd person (no idea how it will seem with 1st person)

So yeah, 3rd person I think.

I usually prefer 3rd person. 1st person is supposed to be more realistic, like you actually are your character, but all the 1st person perspectives I've seen in games so far seem very unnatural to me, like a camera dolly driving through the world. However, in TES games I play in 1st person mode most of the time, because it's better for aiming, fighting and picking up things and because the 3rd person mode is... not so well implemented. I think the 3rd person mode in Morrowind and Oblivion worked too much like the 1st person mode (your character rotating in an unnatural motion when moving the camera). But judging from the new screenshots from Skyrim it actually looks like the 3rd person camera is more independent from the character movement which is awesome!

Definitely 1st. It gives the game a more visceral, integrated feel for the player, I think. That's only my opinion of the games before Skyrim though. From the way it looks in the screenshots so far, I Might be willing to take a dive into the 3rd person perspective in this one.

In Oblivion I used 3rd person perspective cam when engaging in melee combat because it gave me a better overlook of the battlefield but I switched to 1st when using magic or a bow. Oh, and outside of combat I tend to use 3rd person perspective just so I can see my awesome character in front of me.

Didn't vote because there's no option for both

Third person for horseriding, swimming, and occasionally general movement I guess, switch to fps for combat and nice vistas. i'd say 60-40%, on fpv-tpv

I will be playing from the 1st person perspective. I understand what some people above are saying about: "my character and I are two different entities, so why would I play in 1st person?" However, I ask you: How often do you get to walk around in a time period surrounded by dragons and mythological creatures while casting magic spells or slaying an ogre with a sword?

The only reason I ever use 3rd person is to look at my character on a 360 degree level.

I always do my battles in 1st person but when I am just exploring or walking through a town or even just admiring my outfit or the graphics I go 3rd person.
