A matter of perspective.

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 11:28 am

It's a legitimate question, and one you'll have to mull over as gamesas seems to be reworking how the perspectives are handled. But I personally don't see myself playing in the third person perspective at all.

It's too unnatural in my honest opinion and I have had some bad experiences with stupid deaths caused by bad and glitchy camera angles when playing in this perspective in just about every game that has it.

And I don't know about ya'll but seeing a hundred-foot tall dragon close up in the first person is far more intimidating than seeing it from the third person.

1st for me, purely out of habit. If 3rd is really improved (I found it unplayable before), then I might give it a go I suppose.

unless they hugely improve third person, its first for me except for when i'm traveling and i want a picturesque view of the landscape and my character.
i usually like third person perspectives in games more, but i've always done first person in morrowind and oblivion. so i hope they make third person just as playable as first.

I actually liked the 3rd person in Oblivion for combat but hated it for picking up items and looking for things. I usually like to toggle back and forth but I will mainly be playing in 1st person mode. One reason is I am really not found of the over the shoulder view but if it is done right I may be convinced to use 3rd person. As is stands right now though I will most likely be playing only in 1st person mode.

I suspect first person, the only reason I ever used third person was for viewing my character. I also enjoy the idea of seeing the world through my character's eyes.

Third-person. I am not my character. My character is a separate thing from me and I merely control and watch my character interact with Tamriel, therefor I should be watching him or her, not seeing through his or her eyes.

I'll use first-person occasionally, but mostly I'll be playing in third. It makes me sad how many people seem to not like third-person and prefer first.

I don't know any other game that has first person sword fighting done like TES series. I will definitly go first person. It also immensly helps immersion.

Only game where I have ever enjoyed thirdperson view was Red Dead Redemption, and that was because seeing the character (and his mount!) was really huge part of the athmosphere.

Otherwise I always try to choose firstperson, unless it makes gameplay harder.

Most likely firstperson, then.

I only play in 3rd. I hate, hate, hate first-person perspective and avoid it whenever I can. People say it's more immersive, and supposed to be like seeing as your character, but it's exactly the opposite for me. Last I checked, I'm not a hovering arm and weapon with no body or feet. I don't hold my right arm out in front of me. First-person is the most distracting thing in the world to me. Plus, I like seeing my character. I like seeing my gear, seeing me fight, etc.

Less an issue in this game, but an issue of FPS in general, it also bugs me when I see my enemies doing all sorts of rolls and taking cover, meanwhile I'm strafing back and forth behind a box.

Probably, but it's a annoying seeing a new incarnation of the same thread every day.

I usually switch between both for reasons people stated above but has Bethesda said anything about having a cursor in third person? It would make picking up items in third person much easier.

I will be playing in first person but what do shooters have to do with Skyrim ?
I suppose we have bows and we shoot arrows, and maybe we will shoot crossbow bolts, but first person shooter ? eh
I could go on bashing the title, but that will suffice, already told in what perspective I will be playing in.

I prefer first person. The only game I play that is Third person is Mass Effect (and I wish I could play it first person). I like being my character, and it's easier to see what's going on from first person (for me anyway), that's why I like Racing/Flying in Cockpit views too.

I toggle between the two. I'd say most of the game I play in first person, but when I'm out exploring a new region I like to be able to see my character. Once a confrontation occurs, or I need to pick something up, etc, then I switch back to first.

It's nice to occasionally be able to view the situation in 3rd person perspective, but 99% of the time, I play TES games in 1st.

The Witcher had a mediocre 1PP, and a lot of the combat almost required 3PP to see what was happening around you. Compared to the TES games,I found it VERY awkward in 1st, not that I enjoyed it much in 3rd either. Moving "what's-hic-face" in 3PP felt oddly like the little figure was merely dangling there helplessly from the sword that you controlled.

the first person view is one of the fundamental reasons i love tes above all other rpg games. i just cant stand playing in third person, mostly because it makes me feel im just "controlling" the character, instead of making me feel that i am the character.

I normally switch between the two, mostly 1st person but not always. Can we add both as an option to the poll?

It wont really matter to me how they do 3rd person; I'll be playing in 1st person. I will use 3rd person to visualize my character for the hell of it, taking screenshots etc, but not for playing. I want to *be* the player, not look at him.

I use to switch a lot between 3rd and 1st person view, but I like to think that I spend most of my time in 1st person. I don't know if I do though. :P

First Person, feels natural and comfortable.

I do toggle third to see my character and get screenshots of my character/surrounding area.
