[WIPz] A Matter of Time

Post » Mon Sep 30, 2013 12:04 am

After some weeks of researching and trail and error I'm finally in a position to present my little mod:

A Matter of Time

Have you ever find yourself walking through a dungeon or sitting at the bar and asking yourself: How late is it? Will the sun shine outside or will I see the moons if I go outside? If so, this mod is for you!

The purpose of the mod

The mod adds a widget to the HUD which displays the current in game time in two ways: As a picture showing the current time of day and a clock. The mod is highly configurable through the SkyUI Mod Configuration Menu.

Here are two screenshots of the widget: http://imgur.com/a/afjN5#0(day) http://imgur.com/a/afjN5#1(night)
And here one of the configuration menu: http://i.imgur.com/teEGMPG.jpg

One can chose what to display (picture, clock, seconds, ...) and if it is displayed permanently or only if you hit a hotkey. The position the mod is displayed is also configurable.

Requirements
The mod uses the great HUD widget framework of SkyUI. So it won't work without SkyUI. I should also mention that the interface of the HUD widget framework may be not stable right now since there is no documentation out there. So if the interface changes in the next SkyUI version, this mod might not work any more (but it should not damage anything). I will adept the new interface as soon as possible if necessary.

Help needed

Although a lot has been done yet, there are still some things not perfectly done:

  • Since I'm not a good graphic designer, I don't think the picture fits well into the skyrim hud. I guess, someone of you out there can do it much better! So: If you are interested in providing a better design, you are very welcome!
  • Also I need some help with the translation of the configuration menu. Right now, I only have a German and an English version. If you could translate it into any other needed language, you are very welcome, too!
  • Of course, any feedback is also welcome!

Neat idea. Are there any restrictions regarding animation in the HUD element? I was thinking of a semi-circle dial with icons moving from the left to the right (stylized star in the vein of Azura's star perhaps for the sun during the day and twin moons for Masser and Secunda during the night). This would allow the player to quickly see the approximate time of day. The exact time could be added in the center of the circle, if one wanted to have it.

I don't think there are any restrictions as long as it is a 2D animation.

Technically, the picture uses a dial with stars, moons and the sun which is rotated to match the current time of day. So, if I got you right, the widget does exactly what you are suggesting . Or did I miss something?

http://imgbox.com/g/cOPzXMU87h a quick mockup. The dial represents a 12-hour period and the position of the icon can be used to tell the approximate time of day. The exact time could be displayed in the middle of the semi-circle where there is an empty space.
