Mature Content?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:51 pm

Mature content does not mean Gore and six. Actually I believe games/movies/books that focus too much on that are in fact, immature. I'd really like to see mature themes like corruption, despair, civil war ..... that kind of stuff. I cant take the whole "good vs evil" deal anymore, things are never THAT simple.

Violence and nudity is desirable, but it shouldn't be over the top. Mature content means tough choices and realistic consequences, more than anything else.

Adding gore and six to a game doesn't make it more mature, in my opinion. In fact, when a game tries too hard to be "mature" in this way, it often comes across as sophomoric (Fallout 2 is an example that springs to mind).

What I find more worrying is that we have been conditioned to use phrases like "gore and six" or "six and violence", as if those two things were morally comparable. Oblivion got rerated to M because of the presence of a nvde texture in its BSA files. I find it sad that our moral guardians consider briasts more objectionable than murder. The fact that we tend to view sixuality and homicidal violence as equivalent hints at a great flaw in human morality that transcends any discussion about video games.

absolutely.

If the game manages to deliver six and violence in a classy, realistic way I believe it would be a leap in the right direction. If not, at least treat us players like advlts.
If the province has gone to hell show me that, I can take it. As a matter of fact I WANT to see the effects of the king's death and the impending civil war.

I am not some sixual deviant...but i simply believe that barbarians were less decent than imperials...so why not have nudity of the briasts at least...similar to age of conan...this is taking place in a land of Nordic tribes, kingdoms, bandits, and loss of law...so litterally people didn't care for nudity...i am not demanding intercorse or exceeding sixual situations (which is however realistic for barbarians) I am simply demanding little kinks and notches of realistic physical stature and morality...why not add nudity?...

I'm curious of those who favor it.
Why would you want six and violence to be in Skyrim?
Because it make sense. I want to be able to see the effect on the enemy when i hit them with a sword, axe, spear, arrow and so on. I just want it to be realistic. Not that i have ever witnessed it, and hopefully, i never will, but if you cut someones throat i expect them to bleeds heavily, just like i expect an enemy to limp if i have just thrown a dagger into his thigh. I think finishing moves like in Dragon Age: Origins would be cool. I have never tried Deadly reflexes (or any mod for that matter) but from what i have seen, it seems to be something similar to what i want. Generely, i want gore when it make sense but too much gore is almost just as bad as none at all.

As for nudity and six it's just another spice in making the world feel more real and immersive. If done right, it can actually enhance a story quite a bit i think. However, i don't believe they should throw it in our face either, nothing like that. But a well done love scene as part of a well wroten romance? i really can't see the harm in that.

Actually, given the environment the game takes place in, I'd expect to see LESS skin than I did in Morrowind and Oblivion.

Oblivion's storyline was pretty immature I think. The good were good, and the bad were bad.A few twists would be good I think,or gray (not black/white) charcters like in Morrowind.

Other than that I don't think there needs to be much more gore.Maybe better blood on walls.

As for sixuality, well, there'll eventually be full nudity mods.

I'm just wondering, how is that immature? Immature is elementary school "HAHA POTTY POO-POO", Oblivion's story is "Giant evil devil armies trying to kill everybody! OH S**T! ... Hey good person! Go kick their @sses!" I'm just fixing that.

OP:
I don't care about the gore, do whatever.
six, I don't care either way.

And aren't there already like 200 of these types of threads?

Yes, but by "mature" I think it is meant here more six and gore, in their simplistic way ("Boobs! Awesome! yadda yadda bla bla. Whoa, dude, I just hacked this guys head, look at all the blood shooting up like a volcano, AWESOME!") - the stuff game developers put in their games today in their attempt to "catch" adolescent gamers. And in this process each day more, they completely destroy the worth of a game itself.

Very sad, indeed.

Yes, I want an "advlt" game, just like you, a rough world, a grim one, a tough life, hardship and life-depending decisions. But not just "six" and "B-movie" gore for the sake of six and gore and the teenagers.

God, I hope they keep actual six out of this one. I have no problem with gore but Fallout is just unrealistic when it comes to blood and guts. Just because you get a "critical hit" does not mean that their leg will blow apart! Dismemberment is fine though. i just dont want to see eyeballs flying all over the place.

six is just going to ruin the game's reputation and keep it from selling in more censored countries. Parents might not mind that their 12 year old plays a gory game but they will care if there are girls wearing no clothes and having orgisms on screen. If they do six right and not inappropriately then its fine. Just no mindless [censored]s.

Let's just hope this is not the case here. Right now all we can do is hope right?
Maybe, just maybe, they decided to be more mature this time around. Who knows? I'm not holding my breath though.

As long as there is dirt, grit, hardship, dark blood and beautiful (for want of a better word) gore decals, a great tavern atmosphere, poverty, maybe some moderate and well thought out dismemberment, I think they can leave six out. By all means include such themes in the lore and books but don't dare cheapen the experience. My jaw dropped in dismay when "six cards", which only the most depraved of people could find arousing, appeared in the Witcher (great game but a little crass at moments).

I could care less for gratuitous gore and six.

Um, mature content does not necessarily mean excess gore and/or six. It's just something people think of when they think of some Mature games.

I think it can also include mature situations or controversial or disturbing/creepy topics or strong language, etc.

For example, a somewhat hardcoe controversial JRPG I loved playing a long time ago was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei_III:_Nocturne

It was the first Mature game that I bought for myself.
However, it didn't really have excessive gore and/or six shown from what I have played. It was just plain strategic turn-based combat but with limited amount of turns and LOTS of encounters, lol. There is no blood when striking others. I only see "sparks" of light when you smack someone.

No, I think it was the disturbing content of demons, cults, (a hospital used as a place for cults), murders, religious content and references, conspiracy....and the apocalypse, not to mention the controversial part where you become part-demon and fight a god that sort of represents the "god" with a capital G who acts like a jerk and tough angels who believes power/strength is everything, lol! You can even get the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse to fight on your side, lol! Some of your buddies turn into demons and become kind of psycho (or dictator-like). There was even a guy that makes clothing out of people's faces. (Talk about disturbing!).

There were only a few female characters that were partially nvde (but not even that nvde--think skimpy bikini-level, and one female had a snake wrapped around her nvde body which covers the parts anyway) and a hallway of blood. There is no six, just flirty/implied comments. There is an optional boss called a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvmkVddRxfI, but that's really nothing too bad. There was no gore really to speak of (besides the occasional dead body, maybe, but nothing detailed.)

Sorry for rambling. I just wanted to give an example of a M-rated game that does not have excess gore or six that some people think that all M-rated games have. =)

Last i checked, Heavy Rain, Mass Effect and God of War sold just fine. Oh and another thing. Those aren't child games. Neither is TES. I don't think 12 year old should play TES, naked ladies or not. Like Rockstar said, only bad parents buy that kind of games to their kids.

Here is what I want.
Realistic death: Clasping at wounds, visible wounds, death rattles, and screams. As for more blood and limb removal..., meh.
Reason:I hate the idea people killing humanoid NPCs like they were daisies. Makes the act of killing someone cheap and easy without any moral repercussion.

Realistic sixuality: NPCs talking about it and it's rightful place in the literature. The act of six is unnecessary.
Reason: More realistic. I like a dash of sixuality in my media and literature.

um morrowind and oblivion were both T rated... oblivion jus got changed to M because of the dark brotherhood questline. I dont want Skyrim to be rated M jus for the sake of being rated M, if its goin to be rated M it better be because of darker stories. If theyre goin to hav it, it needs to fit the enviroment, such as in the slums there could be ladies on the street corner. also i hope there isnt mindless curseing

I think that racism, six, drugs, gore, politics, and religion all make a more immersive world if written well. I don't think anyone but very young teens and kids would think that anything added in along those lines for the sole sake of having grituitus scenes is a good idea though. In my opinion, if it's done well, anything goes.

Mass Effect was banned in a couple countries and I am sure that others were too. You think that Oblivion is not fit for a 12 year old? I have been playing the series since when Morrowind GOTY first came out. I am only 14 now so what does that say? Should I not play Skyrim? I don't think you understand that just because a game is rated M it doesnt meant that people younger than 17 will not play it. What if you were 12 when Skyrim comes out? Would you be like: "Oh! I am too young! I better stay away from this one!" Or would you get your parents to go to the store and buy it with you so that you can play it? Think logically in the eyes of someone under 17.

Besides, I am only saying that actual six has no reason to be in video games, it doesnt add to the immersion and it doesnt help sell it in counties that censor lots of media. At a tavern I think it would be fine to see some Nord ladies and men making out or walking up the stairs to the bedroom, but I see no reason for a six scene.

I understand what u mean. i was 16 when mass effect came out and because of the stupid six scene my parents wouldnt let me get it til the followin year... also note bioware actually took note that the six scene actually hurt their sales, which is why the six scene in mass effect 2 was more censored

I do not think six should be implemented unless it was in some way very crucial to the narrative. If it is just tacked on as something to do on the side with some random NPC who has no development why bother?

Gore on the other hand should play a more prominent role in the game I believe. Not beyond the point of believability however. I wouldn't want it to break my sense of immersion for the added cool effect. People exploding Fallout style with arrow shots and stuff would just be annoying. However pools of blood beneath the dead and similar levels of gore I feel would add to the experience.

Morrowind was more mature than Oblivion? Less kid friendly? I'm willing to bet that a majority of the people here started playing Morrowind as a kid. Daggerfall was mature. Morrowind was no more so than Oblivion.

Ofc I even remember a guy that harrassed you asking to get naked to give you a quest thing lol ... and for kids I mean 5 - 12 years old .... I dont want the game to be polished and polytically correct just to appeal that frame of age , I prefer instead the way they approached fallout , more six and violence , and by six I dont mean to see porm stuff as someone suggested m clearly not understanding anything of my idea , but mature content , advlt themes, more NPC interaction even about six , this doesnt mean that you ahve to see lol , you remember Grand theft auto ? Or Red Dead Redemption ? Those kind of games are like what I mean ...

I did not really mind that it was in Mass Effect, it just seemed like a novelty thing. Not contributing to how awesome the real game is.

That is the line i dont want TES to cross, those games cause parents to freak out and not lets kids get those games. remember parents think games are the devil, there no need to give them fuel for that fire.

@Mankar Camoran yeah thats what i mean, it didnt add to the experience and cause parent adn countries to ban it. games are games to me, they shouldnt be anymore than that so to add somethin lik six jus to hav it and cause parents to ban it from their kids is wrong to me.

It will not affect the gameplay, I dont see what the big deal about a six scene in games I really have no desire for it to be in Skyrim and I am not sure why somebody would want it in its not important to the game at all...

+1 kudos to Bioware for actually going with the risqué.

-1 kudos to Bioware for pussing out on part 2.

Any country who bans a game like that, over those little cut scenes that show basically nothing controversial, imo are just artistic impressions of six rather than actually anything of a graphic nature, needs to chill the [censored] out.

When I was a kid, I knew Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy were doing it. heh, That's weirder to me now then it was then. :o

Oh Iam sorry that your parents forbid you to play morrowind and Falout couse of its more mature content , well too bad , I hope instead that they will go mature liek morrowindand Fallout , and even more , may be when you will grow up a bit you can ask your parents to play those games ... and all the others like GTA , RDR etc....
