Max Level

Post » Sat Nov 06, 2010 5:51 pm

Hey everyone.Does anyone know what the max level will be? I heard that it is somewhere around 20 or something but just wanted to know if thats true. If you do know, could you show me the link from where you got it from? It's not that I don't just you but because I watched much more than my fair share of Brink vids and I don't think I ever heard them talk about it. All answers appreciated!

Yes, max character level is 20.

Lots of good information in the http://www.fragworld.org/frag/brink/the-fragworld-brink-compendium.html and also at the http://brink.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page.

Max level will indeed be 20.

You will also be allowed to have up to 10 characters.

If you have any further questions, feel free to browse the Brink Bible in the link above.

I also have another question dead. Will each character have their own abilities and/or level?

Yes. Each character you will have to level up.

Oh thats good. So that makes up for only 20 levels, and not being able to get every single thing for one character. Sounds good and balanced to me

And I hear levels are very easy to get. Take the tutorial and you go from level 0 to level 2. Play through the campaign, whether that be with Bots, Coop, or Multiplayer, and you're around level 14. Play through the campaign with the other faction and you're max level, ready to start a new character.

I was hoping it would take a little longer to max out a char than that. Depending on playtime this sounds like it could be done in 1 day.

With the amount of time I am going to have to play this summer... If it is this fast I will have all 10 toons capped in 10 days.

Every character's max level is 20, so you get 20 exp credits to spend on abilities, also for online there are 4 ranks, so you never play against a level 20 when your level 3. The ranks go Rank 1: 0-5, Rank 2: 6-10, Rank 3: 11-15, and Rank4: 16-20.

In all honesty I'm just reading from the compendium to make sure I got everything correct.

Actually I thought it was playing through both campaigns will only get you to 14. Could be wrong.

Actually, you might be right.

Damn it, finding one interview out of hundreds is going to be hard.

That still seems like it would fly by but better than the previously stated speed.

I know what you mean. One of the things I'm most excited about in Brink is the customization and weapon/attachment options. Being able to fully level up quickly, and unlock all (?) of the weapons by doing a few challenge missions seems like it would go by in a day or two. What then? It will still be fun, of course, but there will be less of a cool, I got new stuff! feeling.

Question:

Will getting to level 20 be enough to purchase each ability that is avaliable? Do you have to pick and choose and leave the rest behind? Does you character earn credits for abilities AFTER 20, without actually leveling up?

Good point. Maybe they will be able to update with their necvars(?) and slow it down a tad if people are reaching max a little too fast on day one or two.

Seeing how thoroughly this has been tested and balanced the dev's must be happy with the time it will take to level.

One thing I'm not getting is that you level up your dude, not your class, and you're expected to change classes on the fly. When you reach level 20 you'll have a character who has 25 perks dedicated to kicking ass as an Engineer, but won't ever change his combat role because he's a really [censored] Medic with only 2 abilities attached to it, so you either stick to your class, or you make every single character an all-rounder, who's not particularly good at any combat role. It defeats the purpose of on-the-fly class switching. I think every time you level up, you should get one point to spend on an ability per-class.

No, you can't have everything. That's RPG's for ya.
Nope, you can only have as much as 20 levels buys ya.

That kind of svcks. O well, I guess that is what the 10 spots are for. No way am I making mediocre character to satisfy each ability. Not if i have 10 slots. I got enough friends that will play with me that we can all pick a route and stick with it. Eventually switching it up.....that will make for a long game. We can keep a character to play as a group and then have another one started when we play alone or with randoms. That way we can roll through this.

Haha, just thought that up. Sweeeeet.

So i guess this game is classifying itself as an RPS then huh? Like Borderlands.

But what about the people who plan to play solo? Thats gonna lead to some tough decisions. If I want to be a medic, I damn well better be a medic who can do his job. Well, atleast thats my first character.

Nope, each level grants you one ability. 20 levels make for 20 abilites total. There are 50-something abilities, so you need to make 3 people to get every ability in the game.

And even then, you'll find some abilites work better with others, and some just don't fit your style. Craploads of customization there, You'll probably make use of all 10 characters. I know I will.

For those worried about abilities, I'll say something I said in another thread. A max level character will have 20 abilities, and there are 52-58 abilities in the game, with each class having 10-12 abilities, and there being at least 10 universal, all class abilities. Not every one of these abilities will be something that makes you say 'Oh, hell yes, I have to have this.' So if you only feel the need to have six or so abilities for each class, you can have one character that has every ability you want for two classes, as well as the universal ones you need. This is merely unfounded speculation on my part, but that's my take on it; if you want, you can build characters that are experts in two classes. :)

If the max level is 20 then I doubt it would be quickly reachable, I would expect the xp needed to level up after entering the last rank tier to be fairly large, kinda similar to GT5 but thats just me.

i heard it doesn't take long to get to lvl 20, however keep in mind you get 10 characters people, that's a total of 200 lvls people, more then any CoD or BFBC or even most games for that matter

I was wondering if there was any actual inscentive to level up more than a certain amount of characters aside from replay value.

Well, various parts of your character are fixed after you create them, the most noticeable being body type. The others being skin color, voice, face, tattoos, and scars, according to http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-3-weapons-and-customization.html, if you were curious. Not sure if that still holds true, as it is old information, though. This, in combination with only being able to get 20/5x abilities means you will need to create a few different characters to get all the combination you might want.
