Max Von Sydow sounds REALLY good

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:08 am

The gravity and tonality of his voice - what little I heard of it in the first vid - had me riveted. I knew he was an accomplished actor, but great actors aren't necessarily great voice-actors; there's a different skillset involved in projecting emotion solely through the voice, and he seems to be able to do it with aplomb. Great choice, Bethesda.

I was watching the mini series Nuremburg earlier today, which coincidentally stars Max Von Sydow. In the middle of the movie I nudge my freind in the shoulder and say, "Holy &*^%, that's Max Von Sydow."

I agree. The linguistic quality of the lines he spoke was also really good, in my opinion.

Superb voice. Love him in Flash Gordon.

Can't think of many better voices in terms of gravitas, except perhaps Christopher Lee, who has an unbelievable voice.

liked how it was pointed out that he wasn't being typecasted as the "venerable old man". His voice has an awesome edge to it!!

At least he won't suffer from "Hey! That's Captain Picard" syndrome. I barely know the actor, so that's a bonus for immersion.

Yay, Sweden! :D

He's started to get recognized in the States, but he's still pretty much unknown in Sweden (to those younger than 25 that is).

I want him to do poetry or audiobooks or something. That voice is brilliant. I've seen him in films, so I don't know if it's because I was looking at things which were diverting my attention, but I'd never noticed his voice being that great before.

[Edited for bad grammar - it's late and I'm not quite sober anymore.]

Yeah his voice is amazing and perfect for this atmosphere. I actually know him best for playing Walter Loxley in the recent Robin Hood. Which means bonus points for me because I play a Robin Hood sort of character in my games(bow, longsword, stealthy but good in combat)

Agreed. I'm from Sweden and I got to know who he is when I researched about Skyrim.
I remembered seeing him before, but not hearing him.

He's always been great.

I was really intrigued at how much he apparently enjoyed the process though. As the OP says, great actors don't necessarily translate into great voice-actors. Appreciating such a different process goes a long way to being good though. I wonder if he'll play the game...?
