Unfortunately, I think it was Todd saying it in the early GI podcast, that they are going to have more compananions, and that they were sacrificing having companions with really deep/unique personalities. I was pretty saddened by the news, but it was a while ago.

He actually said that there would be both.

You could only have 2 followers at a time i believe. and they were pretty worthless. They always got lost... They got in the way... having 5 of them would be chaos

Must be at least 4. I remember having... I think Jauffre, Adoring Fan, Mage apprentice and DB assassin following me all at the same time.

That's weird, I remember differently... I'll re-listen to the podcast later to be sure... or if anyone knows if there is a typed-out version of the podcast, a link would be appreciated :)

hm, maybe my mind is mixing up Fallout mechanics and Oblivion mechanics.... My bad.

but i don't think jauffre counts, cause it was part of a quest right? by followers before I meant "permanent" companions... but the point is moot, because i was obviously wrong before.

Just added a new question to the poll regarding the scaling of enemies to the amount of companions you have.

It'd be very realistic to have small groups go out on hunts, I wouldn't count it out.

I snagged this from the http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/299182-todd-howard-gi-interview-transcript/
25:10 Companion characters. That was a really fun and really cool part in Fallout. What's going on with that?

"We are approaching it in a different way. I would not expect the deep personalities and uniqueness with a low number of companions. We are aiming for a much, much higher number of companions that you can hire or they become your friends and they come with you. The general direction is to make it a bit more dynamic, and have more people that you can decide to have come with you. And in that we sacrifice them having a lot of depth or personality or individual stories. And there still will be some like that. But that's kind of the direction we're headed right now. We don't know the exact number of NPCs in the world that could become your companion, but we're hoping it's a big number."

So it looks like I was right, unfortunately...

EDIT: and i just remembered i had a whole thread about it right after that podcast. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1164584-which-direction-for-implementing-companions-do-you-like-better/

I won't use any companions unless I have to and if I do, I'll do what I did in Oblivion and tell them to wait at the entrance of the cave while I kill everything

I said their complexity was "other" because I want their combat decisions and skills to be unique to each companion.

I said yes to using your companions skills (probably the only thing I would use a companion for.

No to the enemy scaling depending on how many companions you have.

That's pretty good, I like that too. I want to be able to depend on a magic user to heal me, so i could just get i really caring priest at some church, and he would try not to let me die. instead of a script you decide for them, you have to choose from people who's personalities are sort of "scripts". and instead of "running away when you go below X health" they would just run away because they know what's good for them.

^I would prefer this too. but they need to make the AI pretty smart

I voted many companions 6+ as I want alot of possible companions, but I dont want scalable enemies because I want my companions to only be "helpful" by the lockpicking and trap finding sense, maybe simple spells like light and call up a scamp or waterwalking/water breathing, other then that they are useless in battle except as fodder really mere distractions for my foes

Well the original Radiant AI that had to be cut from Oblivion was very smart and it's been improved over the years as well. Also, from the articles on the demo this week, it seems that they are very smart.

LOL don't know how i missed it again either. must be because it sounds like they are no more until that one sentence, and i don't have the best attention span in the world.

Confession: if a paragraph on these forums is about more than 5 lines long, i will usually just try to get the jist of it and move on to the next paragraph. I probably bailed somewhere like 3 lines through that podcast transcript, and just scanned the rest.

did you realize selecting 2 means you have two companions PLUS you, making three... I just wasn't sure what you meant by "group"

I picked three though because I think 4 (including me) is a good number for a DnD-type group... I couldn't imagine needing more than three other talents with me.

What's Vilja?

Google works wonders! Just highlight, right click and boom. Search google for vilja. :)

Also I like this poll. +1

Since Todd has a bonnar for Conan, they should just implement the Conan companion. Hahaha I remember downloading that mod and "sparring" with him. Basically I was a wussy so when we sparred he literally just murdered me outright. I had to reload because I died. Man I svck. lol.

I'd love to have a 4 companion troop. Would remind me of an MMO and make me feel a part of something much bigger. I think in this sort of setting, about three companions would be well though. I want tons of intricate instructions I can give as well, as well as directly utilizing a companion's class.

I think three companions is the magic number. I want basic commands like "Use a bow", "Stand here", and "Try and open this", but anything as far as how they react to getting hurt (from the poll, things like healing or hiding when under a certain amount of health) and stuff like that should be internal and unchangeable. Basically I will play one of the base classes (Warrior, Thief, Mage), two of my companions will fill the other slots, and then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4SJ0xR2_bQ

I will say it is kind of a jerky thing to say l2google but in reality, if I don't know something that is usually the first place I check, and more often than not it is the last place I look too. So yeah, it was jerky but google sure is neat.
