I'm a big fan of games with extreme view distances. To me it is the biggest factor in enhancing emersion. Take vanilla Morrowind for example, then take the Morrowing Overhaul that blows away the max distance fog and lets you see forever, it's like night and day. I didn't know how beautiful Morrowind was until I played the Overhaul.
TESO's current MAX view distance is a little underwhelming to me, it is obvious that they restricting it by adding layers of "fog" on things far away. For example I was kinda dissappointed when I could not see the glorious high tower of the Cyrodiil Imperial city even from the shores across the moat. Or when I stood atop one of the highest points in Daggerfall city I saw an obvious wall of fog obscuring anything far away and preventing me from seeing the harbor. This, again, is on max view distance settings in-game.
I noticed there is a .ini file that has a line for view distance, but increasing it seemed to do nothing last beta weekend. Someone please correct me if I did it wrong. It is as if they disabled this feature, hopefully only temporary.
I understand that Zenimax does this to control performance.....but those of us with killer systems should be allowed to go into the .ini and push things to our hearts content. This game is beautiful!....plz don't limit it's potential by hard locking the max view distance.
Here's to hoping that they allow us to push it back as far as we want by release!
