Maybe Elder Maxson is Right

So far i havent found a direct confirmation of it, however theres plenty of indirect ones game does tell you they are virtualy indistinguishable from regualr humans, they even pass every standard medical testing without raising any red flags, so unless you do like a full disection you wont see the difference.

Also since they often serve as infiltration units it wud be prety bad desing choice to make em non fertile cuz that wud make identifying them much, much easier, especialy since you dont rly risk anything by alowing it since their ofspring wud be human anyway.

My thoughts exactly..

Testing the.. fertility of its soldiers seems like something the BoS would do anyways, since they prefer to have their members born and raised brotherhood rather then recruited. At least thats how it is in the Mojave chapter. Procreation is considered one of the duties each brotherhood member should contribute to, and was the preferable means to acquiring more soldiers, since the brotherhood had one of least mutated bloodlines in the wasteland.

I tend to think *some* of that methodology lingers even in Maxons chapter, as some of the PA intercoms prohibit fraternizing with the locals.

If the synths truly are indistinguishable from human beings through all forms except dissection, then all physical tests would indicate the Synth was a human being to the commonwealth. Unless they simple are created sterile, which if found out to be a distinguishable trait, wouldn't be too hard of test to reproduce for finding the potential synths among the populace. If they can reproduce with human beings, it becomes a much more difficult subject in regards to morality to deal with. It would really swing either way in regards to wether people thought they had the rights of human beings, or if- for being able to create human lives, but not be human- even more abominable.

I thought infertility was pretty common in wastelanders anyway, due to radiation? So it would hardly be a malady limited to synths.

True, but the health of the Synths are considerably better then that of the average wastelander. Infertility can occur in perfectly healthy people for sure, but it would be an oddity if they never were exposed to radiation beyond that of what exists on the surface.

The institute don't really care about the ethics of what they are doing so long as scientific progress is made, so I wouldn't find it hard to believe they wouldn't make them fertile. Especially since one of the G3 uses is to simulate a human being for the purpose of test subjects. If they were to develop a medical drug, sterility would be a horrible side effect to run into after approving it through synth testing. Making them normally fertile would allow them to see if that trait is affecting through whatever advancement they are trying to develop.

But then again, that might the one thing they didn't put in the G3 biology. There would be a whole lot of collateral to deal with if one of their rogue units was producing offspring in the wasteland.
