maybe you BECOME a dragon in the end?

Post » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:13 pm

so, Ive been paying alot of attention to the whole werewolves/shapeshifting thread and everything, and I was beginning to wonder why it is the only question that Bethesda just REALLY did not want to answer. they said not only that they didnt want to answer or talk about any questions relating to were creatures, but shapeshifters in general. and if you remember, a while ago during different interviews they said that they didnt want to talk about the main storyline because they wanted it to be a suprise.

now, this is just an idea that came to mind, but Im thinking that there may be some relation to the two, where they may or may not be including were creatures, but they did not want to answer that question because it is related to a big suprise in the game where at the end of the main quest you have the ability to turn into a dragon yourself.

now, this may seem very far fetched, but when you think about it, I dont think it really is. After all, at the end of Oblivion Martin turned into the dragon with the help of the amulet, and in this game you are dragon-born. so, maybe because of that you could obtain a dragon shout to give you that ability

please leave reasonable responses as to why or why not you think this or something related might turn up in the game.

I think not because they said you could continue playing after the end and it seems like that would be difficult as a dragon.

I could see it happening, but not likely as a permanent thing. If it happens at all, I think it will be an "11th hour" power for the final stretch of the main quest, then you lose it after beating it.

It would be kool it is turns out your are Alduin in the end - all the dragons trying to kill you know this and that is why them have been scouring skyrim for you.

You are a demi-god, turned god in the end and you devour the world - game over

I really hope that we don't turn into a dragon, I would prefer to fight a dragon as a man than resort to changing into a mythical beast, kinda take the fun outta the game in my opinion.

If I turn into a dragon in the end, I will take out my disc and burn it to ashes.

I'm not sure if I'd be so rash, but I truly hope you don't turn into a dragon.

In the end? I'd prefer to become a dragon all over if it's going to happen, thank you very much. >_<

I'd be surprised if there isn't a dragon form shout somewhere in there... but I expect to be surprised. XD

That's what I expected ever since we saw the first gameplay of the game. The signs are there:

1. You have the soul of a dragon, thus dragonborn.

2. Alduin is a god you need to fight, and probably a gigantic one at that. How could one take him down with any combat style?

3. Every time they try and answer the question "Can we ride dragons?", they give a non-committal answer. Obviously no one wants to actually fly them, so why not do something that fits in context with the story?

4. Think of the Helicopter fight in Crysis. Oh yeah. That's what I'm talking about.

I am of the mind that we will fight Alduin as a dragon in an instanced zone as to allow for air combat of dragon versus dragon.

exactly. those are some other really good points. we probably do end up becoming a dragon just for that scene or bossfight.

At the end? Yeah, although we don't know the actual boss-fight yet, or if there is one at all.

i can see the relationship between alduin and the dragonborn being very similar to the relationship between fou-lu and ryu from breath of fire 4.

1) Will the character be able to change into certain creature?
We’ve done various things like that in our previous games, and it’s something that we probably won’t be talking about specifically on this one. Don’t read anything into that, we just prefer to not discuss this one. We’d like to leave that an open question until the game is out.

To me, this suggests that the PC will be able to change into a certain creature (read Dragon). The fact that Beth dont want to talk about it until the game comes out is really underlining it. Being a werewolf or vampire is not THAT big that Beth want to keep secret.

Very true, although it would be highly anticlimactic after hyping up Alduin so much, only for us to either beat him with one special action or for him to not appear at all.

Though I am doubtful, you may turn out to be the shezzarine. Thus why it'd be possible to fight alduin in the end.

EDIT: phone keeps typing double letters. >:(

I can see it happing....

remember Todd's answer to weather or not we can ride dragons? "not in the way your thinking."

but any way... if its a viable option, but not the only option, to defeat Alduin then yha, sounds awesome. in the lore dragons can shapeshift into anything, and since dragon powers are shouts it all works out in the lore category.

But gameplay wise, it would need to be a little different then "you cant see your hands and the view is high up". and you could only use shouts.
and what if i fly away from battle?

In short, yha it could work, but it would take a lot of work for the devs, and i cant really see that being in as a 5 minute gameplay feature and spears being out because there wast enough time...

Maybe you ARE Alduin?

Or maybe your Mum's a dragon?

I think neither are likely

I hope not. Being dragonborn is enough for me, no need to toss in being an incarnation again like Morrowind. Aside from being dragonborn, it should be by our power that we win, not because destiny said so.

we obviously going to be able to continue the story after we finished the main story

there might be a possability that you be able to become one for the final fight but i dont think they will make it a peminant thing
and if you could turn in to a dragon at will you would need a few extra skill sets for when you are a dragon so i seriously doubt it that you will turn in to a dragon

not really, here's a bit of how i think a "dragon form" could work:

"in flight you'd be unable to block due to the fact that you were using your wings at the time so you're more vulnerable to ranged attacks.

ranged attacks would only be possible with dragon shouts.

as for melee attacks you use bites and talons, so no bonuses from equipment.

a time limit for this form as well (and a long cooldown) if you're high up in the air when this form runs out, well...let's just say you'd have a very minor case of death.

due to it's long cooldown, let's say a day or two, you'd be unable to use any dragonshouts for quite a while.

ps: and as a way to unlock this powerful form you'd first need to conquer an optional level 50 dungeon making it quite hard and almost impossible for low level players to acquire it early in the game. "

I honestly think if there is going to be any "transformation" into a dragon, it will be for Alduin only. Not only will it give you the power to defeat the boss without undermining the whole game, but it will allow them to keep their original design philosophy that is balanced around the combat available. As I said, the fight in Crysis where you must engage in a spectacular air to air combat battle (even though it had terrible controls), is a good example of how you could adjust the graphics for such a venture and structure the landscape. You obviously won't be able to go around the whole of Skyrim unscaled should this be a possibility. It may be something different etirely, but I honestly think that the only logical option is partial or full transformation into a dragon for the final fight. Bethesda knows how mad everyone was for not having a final boss in Oblivion, so now it's our turn to be Martin.

I personally would make it a lot rougher. Add in a bit of an "addiction" problem like with Fallout drugs, but extremely difficult to get rid of. The more you use the dragon form, the more your dragon soul "calls" to it, you become weaker as a human, and are able to remain transformed longer...but start hallucinating and seeing people as monsters/animals and such, as a sign of hunger/bloodlust. Eventually you lose some control over when you transform. If someone sees you transform, they spread rumors and the like, and send bounties after you. Use it too much and you game over, from the dragon portion of your soul overtaking the mortal portion. :mage:
