McCarran Airport

So one thing I was wondering, Lore wise, do the NCR use the airplanes, or do you think they may have dismantled them for scrap and barricade pieces ala megaton style?

(I know it isn't the BEST topic, but hey, it's new discussion right?)

Hmmmm. It would be pretty cool if the NCR could call in air support against Caesar's Legion occasionally. Enclave had their Vertibirds, so it might be pretty cool if there could be some aircraft around. It would be very cool if Caesar's Legion had their own rudimentary air force and fought the NCR in the skies in some limited capacity.

I'm assuming Megaton-style. You know how non-pre-recorded vehicles are in Bethesda's RPGs. =/

Even then I doubt they'd fly. I assume the Enclave could fly Vertibirds because of the oil rig (though that brings up the question of how the FO3 Enclave could fly Vertibirds...), which I doubt NCR has any of, since the resource war was over oil.

Eh, I dont care if they dont move, as long as they at least look flyable, I'm good.

As to Vertis and etc. The Enclave had Raven Rock and F3 was only the D.C. Area so it isnt a massive flight area. But AAB might have also been a fueling depot, so who knows.

Yeah that'd be pretty cool. I was saddened when I couldn't fly the planes on top of Rivet City.

And that'd make sense for it to be a fueling depot. Plus I'm sure the government would protect their bases from rioters trying to steal oil.

Yes, McCarran Airport will be in the game as the NCR's main base, and I believe there's a museum too, though I'm not entirely sure.

Yup, and now that I think about it, I remember all those near pre-war condition trucks the Enclaves used having covered canvas or oil drums (fixed) so that may be true. And I agree, those planes looked VTOL in my opinion, but maybe the foldable wings were just for garage styled storage. I hope to find an old enterable passanger plane, you can just sit in the chairs, no real purpose, just for immersion, and maybe the Airport could have alot of its pre-war stuff intact, posters, smoking lounges, and so on.

i doubt theyd be able to fly, due to the rescource war, and plus, even though the enclave had vertibirds that flew, i doubt the ncr has the rescourses, enclave may be evil but they had pretty advanced stuff (like the oil rig),

i has a question though, have the enclave and ncr ever had any major battles? (ex: the brotherhood raiding the ncrs gold reserves)

I don't believe so.

The NCR was kind of just starting to really come in to power in Fallout 2. They only had control of the one city and were looking to expand into Vault City. The Chosen One eliminated the Enclave threat and did whatever else he/she did and that was the last we heard of the Enclave on the West Coast.

Of course Obsidian could easily add in small battles or even a sizable campaign into the canon of what happened in these intervening 35 or so years. Perhaps as the NCR rose to power it wiped out the remnants of Navarro...or perhaps the BoS did that...or perhaps one of them returned to Navarro to find the Enclave had already stripped it of all valuables and moved on.

Honestly the story/gameplay of New Vegas is probably less than half of the entertainment I'll get from the game. The bulk of it will come from finding out what the creators of the originals imagine has happened between the last moments of my Chosen Ones adventures and the day The Courier ate a bullet and came back for seconds.

um... if vertibirds flew on oil, why did they make a huge mushroom cloud when they went kaboom!?

Good question. Maybe its a mix of fuel and nuclear fusion/fission or something.

I seriously wouldnt mind seeing stationary (For game engines sake) cargo planes with tons of lootable boxes on it. :vaultboy:

I'm guessing it's because they carried a payload of Mininukes.

They don't fly on oil. Like most other prewar vehicles, they're fusion powered. Just like the Highwayman in FO2, or all the exploding cars in FO3.

Oil is an extremely valuable resource even if you don't burn it for fuel, since it's used to produce plastics.

As for how that relates to the NCR and any potential air force - it kinda depends on the NCR's level of technical development. That is, whether the NCR has redeveloped the ability to produce small scale fusion plants or not. If so, we could easily see aircraft. Probably Vertibird-style tilt rotors. If not, probably not, since there's no other effective fuel around.

'Course, if the NCR has small-scale fusion plants, they're halfway towards making their own PA too. Since PA production is considered voodoo magic by everyone but the Enclave and possibly the Midwestern Brotherhood, I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Who knows, maybe we'll have a quest or something to help get parts to fix a plane for the NCR or something. Just a little wishful thinking.

One would think in a AIRPORT there would be technical manuals or holotapes on how to keep a plane in functioning order. But who knows. The convenient situation seems to have an uncanny habit of being kicked off a cliff in the Fallout Series

Agreed with this. I would like to find out that NCR or BoS finished off Navarro but it's so far away.. Another way NCR could get their hands on vertibirds is that they got one from the BoS or got a copy of the plans. From the Quest in FO2 where we have to sneak into Navarro to get the plans.

I hope they didn't disassemble them and use the parts for a crude trash-wall.
It's been 203 years, getting tired of junk-towns and junk-walls everywhere.

(By the way, how the hell did Shady Sands build their wall and houses?)

Hmm, you're right.
Playing fallout 1 at the moment and I never heard anyone mention that they used a geck.
Maybe I haven't talked to the right people or chosen the right dialogue.

i think it would make more sense if the NCR disabled the planes for scrap, or, converted them into barracks. because lets face it, if these guys are descendants of us, maybe 1 in 100 would possibly know how to fly them and where would one get the fuel if it wasnt already at the airport?

just my two cents
