MCP - Morrowind Version Error

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 7:45 am

Hi,

I've tried to use the MCP, having successfully used it once before and I get the following error message:
anolyzing Morrowind.exe...
Backing up Morrowind.exe to Morrowind.Original.exe
There is no compatible patch for your version of Morrowind.exe. Make sure your Morrowind is patched with the last Bloodmoon patch (v.1.6.0.1820). If you should have a compatible version, please check you have not installed other patches such as Exe Optimizer, fpu2sse or no-CD patches. Check the readme for more details.
Patch failed to apply.

Now I have checked the version that I am using and it is indeed 1.6.0.1820.
The MCP GUI is showing me my currently installed patches but it won't allow me to install anymore. I have installed other mods but none that have amended the version of the .exe...

Do any of you guys/gals have any thoughts on this...?
(Please?)

Cheers!
Phon

If the MCP patched successfully once, but cannot find the correct version any more, then this often means that the user ran the Exe Optimizer or a no-CD patch in the meantime. Both change Morrowind.exe.

You should be able to choose "Uninstall All" in the MCP dialogue, this will replace the current Morrowind.exe with a backup that the MCP automatically saves. Though some users accidentaly remove this file, thinking it's an unneeded exe - in that case, a reinstall may be necessary.

If you're using Win7 or Vista, then there may be some problem with file access and write permissions that I don't know much about, unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply!
Um, nope I haven't run an optimiser or a no-CD crack. I am however running vista...!

Found the problem - if you move the backup .exe file to another directory, the MCP fails to update the existing "live" .exe file.
Problem solved!

The MCP never updates an already patched exe file. It takes the un-MCP'ed backup, replaces the current Morrowind.exe with a copy of that backup, and applies to that file all patches that are currently selected in the GUI. If you remove the backup, then the MCP can't find the untampered exe (because you removed it), it then falls back to the current "live" exe - and finds out that this file is not the original, untampered, Morrowind.exe (because it has been patched by the MCP). That's why you were receiving this message. :)
