meaningless caves & dungeons in the game.

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 1:36 am

do you think there will be alot of meaningless cave or dungeons?

for example- enter a cave kill 2-7 bandits loot useless stuff, and get out?

i rather have some spaciel things in each dungeon, spaciel loot, puzzles, traps, or just intersting characters.

Well, depends on what you define as meaningless. Diverse dungeons that don't give you deja vu's every ten steps are nice. Oblivion-like dungeons are not unique and meaningless, yeah.

this ^ you just nailed it :D

I like spaciel loot too, but the only reason I usually go into dungeons is to just kill everything inside.

There weren't any useless dungeons. Every dungeon had a boss chest in Oblivion which usually contained expensive or armour upgrades.

Run into a cave, spend 10-20 mins searching every corner and picking chests, run out with an extra 100 gold and a new enchanted item, all randomly generated.

This is the experience I'm hoping to avoid. :)

They said that about Oblivion too. Take it with a grain of salt.

Would be cool if every dungeon had That Boss and That Prize.

But sometimes there just happens to be a geological chink in the ground, and some slackjawed bandits use it for a nest. C'est la vie.

No thanks to an overabundance of magic items! :shakehead:

maybe a few... But the meaning only truly comes when an NPC gives you a quest to go INTO that dungeon/cave.

I would think many dungeons will be useless unless you are on a quest in said dungeon. But that doesn't bother me. It makes sense really.

Or a bunch of clutter.

Oblivion's dungeons were made by one person, Skyrim's dungeons have been made by eight, we should see some more variety this time.

i would assume they mean it this time being that their dungeon creator staff for oblivion was 1 person.. on skyrim they now have 6 or 8.. i forget which one i seen.. regardless either 6 or 8 is a huge improvement..

I think the same, if we have 150 dungeons, we should have 150 ancient daedric artifacts in the game
/sarcasm

They add realism to the world, you aren't going to find amazing loot and treasury everywhere

Meaningless? Easy dungeons are for practicing spells and sniping with arrows imo.

I loved going into random dungeons that weren't quest related and exploring/plundering them

Anything you do in a single-player game is meaningless. It's just there to entertain you.
You should use a more correct term such as "content-poor", "bland" or "repetetive".
Also, all of that is supposed to have been addressed in Skyrim with ramping up the number of full-time dungeon designers and the introduction of puzzles. :spotted owl:

PS. Be nice to my owl Hooty.

Dungeons in Oblivion were fine for me just because despite the deja vu, the enemies were always fun to practice new spells on or for those moments where you just rip right through them all.

Skyrim's dungeons should have alittle more content then Oblivion, but really all I hoping is that the people working on said dungeons are working on quests that give them meaning, or hell, even a backstory.

It was pretty exhausting trying to find all the ayleid statues for Umbacano without using looking it up online. I mean, I'm all for exploring and not liking quest markers but sometimes the sheer weight of tedium, Oblivion, just doesn't come together well.
