Mechanical Enemies? wtf

Post » Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:06 pm

In the demo, the description of the Detect Life spell reads: "Nearby living creatures, but not undead, machines, or daedra, can be seen through walls. Lvl: Adept, Cost: 30 per sec."

Discuss.

Edit: No, the spell itself is entirely irrelevant to me at this point. I was surprised to see this confirmation of robots in Skyrim. I mean, we don't get any advanced weaponry like a crossbow or anything... Yet, there's robots in the world. Awesome. Makes complete sense.

I think he's angry that a detect LIFE spell shows enemies that are not, in fact, alive.

No I am just ignorant of machines existing in a world that doesn't have crossbows or advanced weaponry. Amazing.

Maybe lingering effects of life still show spell-wise for undead or residual effects of the life they once had. I mean its magic does it have to make sense?

Theres a separate Demoralize spell for undead which is Turn Undead, so I imagine there might be an alternative to detect life purely for undead.

I'm not saying he's sane in his assessment. I'm just saying he looks like he is angry because detect life isn't as literal as he wants it to be.

The dwemers were an advanced race of elves but were destroyed
They built highly advanced machines and weapons but those technologies were lost deep inside there ruins after
their disappearence

U seem like u've prolly only played oblivion/fallout
In morrowind dwemer ruins existed with these machines
In oblivion they were replaced with ancient elven ruins not dwemer ones

Crossbows do exist, and they do have advanced weaponry, just not the sort that the US army has. Giant stompy robots and nuclear swords are known.

Orrrr you could have just asked me instead? You're both wrong. And just to comment on the spell itself; it would have been prudent to have changed the wording in the spell.. like say, take "or" and add an N to the front of it to make it say "nor" and it would have made the spell make sense. Grammatically it is incorrect as is.

they want to streamline re-name the spell "detect presence" don't want to streamline make several niche versions of the same thing. And if you still have a bug up your ass about it "there's a mod for that!" lol.

The Dwemers are kind of like how some of us picture people from Atlantis from what I gather. Advanced technology but the race was lost, although Atlantis sunk and Dwemer's ruins didn't of course.

The world probably has crossbows, since they were already in Morrowind, over 200 years ago. The game, however, doesn't include them, for gameplay reasons. (It won't make sense the Archery skill would improve crossbow damage and with fixed damage rates it would unbalance the game.)
But let's not turn this thread into a crossbow discussion. What I'm trying to say and what a lot of people overlook is that there is a difference between the lore and the actual game. Lore-wise the landmasses of the provinces are probably much larger than they appear in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. And not everything that is in the lore is in the game.

I love Morrowind, but I have always HATED the dwemer robot [censored]. If there is one thing I don't want in a fantasy world there is mechanical and ultra technological races and creations

I'm not a fan of crossbows anyways takes so long to load them in most games and if the load too fast it feels wrong.
