I was asking if the Inner Sphere was the remnants of what didn't split off from the Star League. I was under the impression that the Inner Sphere was a faction itself, but its just an area of the galaxy, right? Or is it a tangible organization?

The Inner Sphere is just a..erm...spaceographical part of the galaxy. However, it is also generally taken to mean all the factions residing within the inside of the known galaxy that is NOT considered the Periphery. The Inner Sphere consists of several factions, the most powerful being the House Davion (rulers of the Federated Suns), House Kurita (rulers of the Draconic Combine, House Steiner (rulers of the the Lyran Commonwealth, or the Lyran Alliance), House Liao (rulers of the Capellan Confederation), and House Marik (rulers of the Free Worlds League).

These five great houses rule for hundreds of years, but all are intertwined in their politics, wars, and alliances. Other factions such as ComStar (imagine AT&T, with guns and lots of smoke and mirrors thrown in. That's basically what they are, as they upkeep the Hyper Pulse Generator network, which are faster-than-light messaging systems that keep the galaxy connected with information) also exist, in addition to eventual alliances such as the formation of House Steiner-Davion (thanks to a marriage. This also created the Federate Commonwealth, a combination of the Federated suns and the Lyran Commonwealth).

So, while political lines are always shifting, there are almost always the 5 great houses and ComStar in the picture.

Okay, I get it now. Thanks for the explanation!

EDIT: Okay, what's the difference between 'Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat' and the Titanium Version?

Someone said Mechwarrior?
My Username is based on two famous Inner Sphere Mechwarriors :P

EDIT: Okay, what's the difference between 'Mechwarrior 2: 31st Century Combat' and the Titanium Version?

The former is the original release. The Titanium pack included all games with enhanced 3D grafics.

[quote]Are there any books you'd recommend for getting into the Battletech Universe?[(quote]
Regarding the novels, they're all set along one continouus timeline and all add to the bigger picture. I actually have the majority of all the novels :)

Within that timeline there are a bunch of subseries, some that I would recommend are:

The Grey Death Legion(a mercenary group led by a tatical genius with a strong moral compass):
Decision at Thunder Rift
Mercenary's Star
The Price of Glory
Blood of Heroes
Tactics of Duty
Operation Excalibur

Blood of Kerensky(the clan invasion! A great series to start with if you don't plan on getting every single novel, as it starts a new storyline and has a new generation of main characters):
Lethal Heritage
Blood Legacy
Lost Destiny

Twillight of the Clans (Inner Sphere finally gets their [censored] together and starts fighting back against the clans):
Exodus Road
Grave Covenant
The Hunters
Freebirth
Sword and Fire
Shadows of War
Prince of Havoc
Falcon Rising

Just avoid anything that has the Mechwarrior: Dark Age label.

I'm huge Battletech/Mechwarrior fanatic.

I'm currently running RP campaign by using the Age of War rule set. Players just got their asses kicked by Clan Jade Falcon Assault
Clusters in planet Apollo during Operation Revival.

I Also play Classic Battletech, MechWarrior 4, Crescent Hawks Revenge, Mech Commander, MWLL and sometimes MechWarrior 3.

If people are interested, I would like to play MW4 with you guys. Sadly most servers around use No Heat/ Unlimited Ammo option which
pretty much ruins tactics and whole game. I usually run around with Ebon Jaguar, Hellbringer or Summoner. Each fitted for lethal close range combat.

Today I should have enough time to paint up rest of my Mechs for 5th Sword and Light command lance. :)

Hey, some of the Dark Age stuff is good. I like the books with the Highlanders in them, but you could probably guess that from my username. :P

Oh, I'll probably wait for that Boxed Set before I start playing. I was wondering, what do the models look like? And is there a certain place to buy them? I'd love to see some painted ones.

I might be able to play some MW 4 sometime. Not today, though. Maybe sometime on the weekend.

I always thought that your username was from Mechwarrior, but never asked...
And yes my statement there was rather biased . It's not that I think the writing of the Dark Age books is bad, it' just to I personally never really cared much about the Dark Age timeline :(
Also Wizkids closed down and I think Mechwarrior: Dark Age is dead anyhows now, no?

I mean not that the Classic Battletech is super succesful, but atleast it's alive and kicking.

Didn't the company that owns CBT buy the Dark Age line? They changed it to Battletech: Dark Ages or something. I think.

Hm not that I know, atleast I didn't ever notice any dark age line products on the homepage.

They did use the backstory though for CBT, since the jihad leading up to the Dark Ages is canon.

My weekend is quite full at the moment, airsoft, Battletech RP and mini painting, but maybe Sunday would fit best.
http://www.camospecs.com/ best place around for CBT minis.

If you are from US, you should check http://ironwindmetals.com/d/, or if you are from Europe, Check http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/.

I prefer Ral Partha for cheaper prices. I don't know for quality but so far my minis have been top notch.

remember, boxed set minis wont look like that :D
you need to paint them yourself.

Well, I'll need to continue with my minis, it is hard to use black/red color scheme and not make Mechs look like Wolfs Dragoons

I know. I've been painting Warhammer 40k minis lately, so I'm getting better. What do you think a good Faction would be for CBT? I kind of like the Highlander Mercs faction, but what are some other cool ones?

EDIT: And do the Highlanders have a certain color scheme? If not, what are some cool ones?

I don't know, it is mostly personal preference. I made up my own mecrenary unit as my main force. Other than that, Kurita and Clan Jade Falcon are not bad.

I'm planning something like http://www.camospecs.com/Miniature.asp?ID=3562 for my merc unit. But with more red. I've been tossing around name for it and so far the best
name I have come up with is Blood Ravens, but it sounds rather cheesy...

Mech units have nothing BUT cheesy names, that's what makes them awesome. However Blood Ravens makes me immidiately think of Dawn of War, so doesn't appear to be particularly original :)

But hey we once had a lance that was called http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LN38vED24Eg!

Well, I never played Dawn of War, actually I don't have any clue about Warhammer lore.
Also Crimson Ravens would be one name candidate.

Ahh, see the Space Marine chapter you play in the Dawn of War games is called Blood Ravens(I figured you might have the name from there).
Crimson Ravens is good I think. Easy enough to come up with a company insignia atleast.

Well, in that point, I shall not name my unit as Blood Ravens. Crimson will do.
So far my first mini for my unit is coming along nicely. I'll finish it tomorrow.

My unit consist following mechs:

Striker Lance:
Phoenix Hawk
Phoenix Hawk
Stooping Hawk/Wolverine (depends which era I will play)
Shadow Hawk

Fire Lance:

Warhammer
Archer
Rifleman
Griffin/Marauder (era depended)

Command Lance:

Battlemaster/Mad Cat Mk2 (era depended)
Thunderbolt
Marauder/Marauder II (era depended)
Raven/Battlemaster (era depended)

Striker lance is full of "Hawk" Mechs :D
I have a lot of painting to do...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/CrimsonSkies.jpg needs to be your logo. Especially because it was another FASA game. And the whole Crimson thing. And the wings.

I think I'll go with the Highlanders. Don't know what color scheme, though.

I'd love to play Mechwarrior 4 with you Saurok...once I get my damn connection bridged. I really hate getting the multiplayer to work on older games. It always involves doing this and that and some of this and a lot of that. Ugh.

I might see you on the battlefield, but will you see me? Kit Foxes are pretty short, you know. Say good bye to your knee caps.

I wont play much Multiplayer these days. Each time I check servers, only place where there is people playing are those horrid No heat/Unlimited ammo servers.
But drop me message here and I'll play.
